The sound is modern and current and the lyrics have a new level of maturity about them - to answer the question a bit further back I think that's what I'll associate with this album. There's wit and some fun stuff in there in the shape of some smart word play and one liners but the overall feel is very serious, even in the most upbeat songs, and often sad. It's a dark, deeply personal, mature and modern album."

It's mature in a way I think they've been attempting for a while, but maybe couldn't quite nail in the way they were hoping. 21CB was mature in an apocalyptic kind of way, the Trilogy was mature in a midlife-crisis kind of way. But this? This is just right. This is incredibly observant of the social climate America has been dealing with for the past few years, healthily reflects on the past, and finds the importance of finding your way personally in the midst of all that insanity. I feel like it's about discovering who you're supposed to be when at the end of the day you're not the Jesus of Suburbia or St. Jimmy or Christian or Gloria or even a hard-partying rockstar—when you're not a concept or a cliche, but a normal person who cares an awful lot and wants to find a purpose.

You've put it amazingly well! It's like everything is stripped back and he's just singing straight from the heart with nothing extra.

Another opinion of mine on this album, is that it's 21st century breakdown 2.0

And Breakdown was Idiot 2.0 so really this is American Idiot III.

Turns out, all their albums are Trilogies. GASP.

Today's new discovery for me is that small melodic bridge of Youngblood, so damn beautiful. ( I wanna hold you like a gun...)

As a whole this album sounds like they had no goal and couldn't decide what they should go for.

What's weird is that I hear people talk of influences like The Who and Queen on this album but I don't even like those bands yet love this fucking album, only Green Day hahahaha. Somewhere Now/Forever Now, BOTW and Say Goodbye are all tied for favourite now. Ordinary World and Outlaws are the worst songs on the album. The singles are good but don't hold up to songs like Troubled Times or Youngblood for example.

A real mixed bag, I'll find moments in songs that I appreciate just that bit more after really delving into them.

One big thing with this album for me is that it doesn't have actually any weak or "filler" songs. On Trilogy there was many of them (for me). On 21stCBD too. Every song is different and good with it's own way. Sure all of them aren't my top GD songs of all time, but I prefer listen to RevRad from front to back than Uno, Dos or Tre. Somewhere Now is my least favorite and I don't find it so good as an opening track, I could've seen Revolution Radio as a way better opener. But as an album, this is really good. 4,5/5 for me!

A reminder that you don't need to keep saying you don't like it over and over. We got it, no need to keep telling us again.

Nah man, Green Day are going to be around for a while. Billie himself said that he's doing this till he dies and right now they are so full of inspiration and appreciation. I honestly don't think it will be too long till we get another album, maybe two years? They are showing no signs of slowing down right now.

As much as I love them man I don't want to see them fade into obscurity and just make music for the sake of it. Can you really imagine them playing this type of music when they're 60+? Think they have one more solid album in them then they should leave their legacy there. Maybe Billie will be involved with music for the rest of his life but I don't think Green Day will be around for much longer. Hope they prove me wrong though to be honest.

I will always be proud to call them my favourite band of all time.

Music is their talent and passion so it would be weird if they suddenly just stop.  I think they will always have some inspiration for new Green Day, from boredom to empty suburban homes to nursing homes.

The guys are in their 40s, not their 70s.  And The Who and the Stones are still going strong well into old age.   Their new stuff might not be relavant to pop culture but if you're a fan you're a fan.

Just finished my second listen-through and it just feels wrong trying to make broad statements about it... I can't even quite put it into words!!! :runaround: My big takeaways are that when Uno came out, I finished it and thought "That's...it?" But with this I feel like I need to keep going back and re-listening and re-enjoying it. They packed so much energy and change into these 12 chaotic, different, classic songs. There's SO MUCH to study with this album.

Honestly, I'm mostly disappointed with the album artwork. So overall I guess that's not too bad of a complaint. ;)

Really fucking excited about this. Someone said it earlier but I'll repeat it - I wouldn't mind if they just played through the whole new record on this club tour.

They're getting into that phase of a band's life where they're honestly a bit legendary—Rock n Roll Hall of Famers, 12 albums. Pop culture will continue to highlight the hot young thing of the month—their popularity in the mainstream depends heavily on what current music trends are. But that doesn't matter. I don't care if they're considered obscure by the mainstream at a certain point. Many phenomenal bands who have been around a long time are still putting out great music and filling arenas, even if they're not in the headlines. I think that's perfectly ok. They make music for themselves and for their fans, not anyone else.

I'm trying to figure out if I should just listen and give in instead of living vicariously through all of your posts

@Hermione I had some sort of meltdown within the first 30 seconds of hearing it the first time.

Exactly the same. I was already shocked by how good is Somewhere Now, listened to BB and RR prepared to continue the party, but when Say Goodbye appeared I couldn't move anymore, was standing with my mouth wide open not believing what am I actually hearing. (in a good way of course)

Say Goodbye and Too Dumb To Die reminds me a lot Foxboro Hot Tubs. Youngblood looks like the Trilogy, sounds good but is the "worst" on RevRad.

I wonder what effect the leak will have on the sales of the album? (I'm not listening to the leak)

It's funny because for me that's exactly what the Trilogy seems like to me.

I don't think it will have a huge impact on sales. People who were going to illegally download it were always going to do that. Most people on here (myself included) are just listening to this as a preview, and already pre-ordered the actual album.

I agree. I mean, my car only has a CD player so I need to buy it anyway to blast it out with the roof down :D

But I'd have bought it anyway, otherwise it's like stealing from Green Day. And I fucking love Green Day so I couldn't do that!

I've given more money to Green Day than anything else in my life, and will gladly continue to do so. I mean, I've probably given them even more than I've given the government. That's love.
