Agreed. 21st Century Breakdown's little brother.

I HATE to put a downer on things...but does anyone think this could be their last album? I mean, they are hitting that age....

Nah man, Green Day are going to be around for a while. Billie himself said that he's doing this till he dies and right now they are so full of inspiration and appreciation. I honestly don't think it will be too long till we get another album, maybe two years? They are showing no signs of slowing down right now.

Right so Billies talking about something I had to make for a seventh grade science project when he's in his 40's. Nice.

the way everyone's talking about the album it seems like it has more variation in style than american idiot & 21stCB, rivaling even nimrod. and thats cool i can't wait until its out (i'm waiting til release):D

EDIT: on the topic of hidden tracks, i'm sad there isn't one as well. i was REALLY hoping for "devil's kind" to be a hidden track.

It's a Wes Anderson movie.

After a 4th listen. The only songs I am skipping are the three singles because I have heard them so many times. Every song is becoming better and better. I am living this. I think this can stand higher than AI in my favourite albums list. This is way more fun personal and at the same time more aggressive than AI.

The more you'll listen to this record, the more you'll appreciate it.
It's fresh and I can't wait to see some videos from these first shows to know how they will sound live. Waiting for the 4 dates in Italy :runaround:

I sat down with beer in a wine glass - saluting to a recent picture of the three while giving this thing a first listen. I'm just blown away. The variety, the arrangements, the sound, the lyrics... damn!

It's so different but it still makes me feel at home. Can't wait for the january show and Hurricane Festival!!

I wanna make a road trip listening to these great songs...

So many different styles on this record that you just can't enjoy all songs.

YOU can't enjoy all songs, I'm enjoying every single song. Just because someone has a favorite and a least favorite song this doesn't mean he doesn't like the rest or part of the record.

That's exactly what I've done today. I didn't like Outlaws on the first two listens but now I can't get over it.

Just listened to the album . Wow people weren't kidding when they said Bang Bang and Rev Rad were the most upbeat songs, it is dark. I hear elements of 21st CB/AI and Uno/Dos/Tre (and it almost brings to mind Warning with the outward looking but personal lyrics as well) but there's also a real newness about it. The sound is modern and current and the lyrics have a new level of maturity about them - to answer the question a bit further back I think that's what I'll associate with this album. There's wit and some fun stuff in there in the shape of some smart word play and one liners but the overall feel is very serious, even in the most upbeat songs, and often sad. It's a dark, deeply personal, mature and modern album.

I'm so impressed by Billie's writing on it, so much to delve into with the lyrics. I think it's very interesting that they've made the most pop sounding (as in, in line with current pop trends) songs they've ever made with some of the most serious, personal and mature lyrics. Catchy melodies contrasted with darker lyrics has always been their thing but this is like a new take on it. I just want to listen to it again and again, and I know I'll find more and more to admire about it every time!

This album to me is nothing like Nimrod. Nimrod blows Rev Radio away.

I've only listened once, so of course there's a chance it grows on me and I hope it does, but this is the first Green Day album I almost couldn't make it through (okay besides Dos). The singles are good with Bang Bang being the best.

Side note, wasn't the album supposed to be like Bang Bang? Wasn't there a quote? I wish the album went that direction.

Okay back on track. The structure and style of the songs is different from other albums but a lot of songs on this album are similar. Low yet high ,hard to hear vocal filters to start, followed by a loud rush of choruses that sing the title 4 times.

I think Green Day lost their way a bit here. It doesn't sound like a Green Day album but not in a good way. Half the album is social activism and comments about the world, which is great in theory but there's no bite to the lyrics, they're straightforward and soft. The word "like" has been used a ton since Uno came out. There are good ideas, it just seems like they should have went through the lyrics a few more times and really flushed out the fluff and added some hard hitters.

Vocally I'm disappointed, not because Billie has lost anything he sounds great  when he is actually just singing to the mic with little filtration. But too often are his vocals played with.

Instrumentally they sound great here. Back to loud, (sometimes) fast guitars, killer drums, could have uses more bass but the sound is there.

It just feels like had they used this instrumental sound on an album of 13 trilogy songs, that would have been much better.

Overall right now I'm disappointed, hopefully it changes. I love the idea of new Green Day  music so I'll keep an open mind and listen more in the next few weeks.

Call me crazy, but I'm honestly infatuated with this album. It's everything I hoped it would be. It's got the old green day and the new Green day and the in between green day all packed into a kick ass album. I get a lot of The Who and Boston vibes from this album.

I just listened and oh wow, I didn't expect to love this album so much after the very first listen. Just wow. Reading that it has elements of Warning and 21st CB excited me a lot, but it's even better than that. I thought I'll love Somewhere Now though and it didn't disappoint, I can totally hear the Who and Yes and other classic rock influences there, but when the drums kick in it gets very Green Day. As I love classic rock, this song just makes my heart happy. It makes me want to take up learning guitar again, just so I could play the wonderful melody. The biggest surprise for me was Say Goodbye, I didn't expect it to be so catchy and amazing, I really hope they play it live. I need to listen many more times, as I've already forgotten all of my thoughts about the individual songs (also, can't wait to read the lyrics properly, so I can appreciate Billie's writing even more!). Anyway, when it closed with the beautifully done Ordinary World, I was very close to crying. I really want it to be the closer at shows now.

Thanks for this wonderful album

One silly thing for me was when it got to the bit of Ordinary World that's in the film trailer and it just made me think of that character Billie plays . Otherwise a nice closer, continues on from 21st CB and the trilogy by ending on a hopeful song about valuing what's important after all the turmoil that came before. Not usually the biggest fan of acoustic songs but it's a good one, works especially well as an ending.
