jordanlolss
I could never really get into Ordinary World, listening to that live performance of it multiple times, but I am absolutely loving it on this record. I love how up close and personal it sounds. Possibly one of my favorite tracks.

Luli
Ok, after beeing very critical about the first songs (and lyrics.........), I must say I like this CD. I've listened to it several times now. My favorite so far is definitely Say Goodbye, but I need to read the lyrics of all the songs, while listening to them, to be completely sure about it. Overall, I'm happy Must agree that it sounds fresh. Hopefully a good extended tour is coming!
jabharty
I'll give this track-by-track thing a go. 4th listen through. 1) Somewhere Now - Intro has that 'have my doubts, of where I belong' extended bridge in Disappearing Boy feel. The overdrive kicks in and pow, unknown territory. I have nothing to compare it with except brilliance. Undoubtedly is single material, I'll be annoyed if they don't get this out there. 9.5 2) Bang Bang - Ups the tempo nicely. This one's been done to death with reviews. It's my favourite GD song in years though and I cannot wait to mosh to this live, so it gets a controversial 10. 3) Revolution Radio - Another release that's been analysed already. The opening riff that's echoed in the verses is awesome. It's old format but that new guitar tone. Power chords and octaves in the solo, love it. 9 4) Say Goodbye - Is it just me or are the guitars less bright on this one? Creates a nice effect along with the muffled vocals on the 'say...' verses. Very, VERY repetitive but meaningful lyrics nonetheless. I can't explain it but I love the chorus. 8 5) Outlaws - Argh, and the racing start to the album grinds to a halt. Great lyrics and I doubt they would fit in a song more high-tempo than this, but total buzzkill for me personally. Reminiscent of 'Wild One' too. I'll give it time to see if I change my mind, but I doubt this'll be making any playlists of mine. 5/6 6) Bouncing Off The Wall - Really like the arrangement of quiet/loud guitars in the verses. The lone guitar bridge towards the end makes me think of HS+HG from 21CB. Solid track. 8 7) Still Breathing - Here's a song that has really taken it's time to get to me. Good lyrics, catchy arrangement. I genuinely love it, has been on repeat for the last week. Could quite easily fit into the mainstream radio playlists if it's pushed hard. 9 8) Youngblood - The obligatory song about girls along with pretty weak lyrics, although "She said fuck you I'm from Oakland"... The 'Young. Blood.' chorus will keep me coming back to this song. Very easy to listen to. The key change at the end doesn't seem like much on paper but it sounds great to me. 7 9) Too Dumb To Die - Let's address the elephant in the room, the intro. Odd to say the least, I'm sure loads of you will disagree but I just found it so weird given the tone of the rest of the track. Very strong lyrics in the teamsters verse, bass adds to the song well and great classic Green Day punchy chords. What's not to like? 8 10) Troubled Times - Ooooh that vocal filter from 'Say Goodbye' again. This track is seriously growing on me, I hear the 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' influences loud and clear. The simplistic guitar solo is so obviously that. I was gonna quote some lyrics that I liked but there are loads on this song. The punch as the song hits the refrain is seriously good. 9 11) Forever Now - The inevitable longer opera-type song. I was writing this and wasn't so sure about the track, so listened to it on repeat a few times. The first time I heard this I got goosebumps at the end with the 'Somewhere Now' fusion. It's simply incredible. Growing on me as we speak. 9 12) Ordinary World - Expected absolutely nothing from this track having heard it already. The production on it is superb, vocals are brilliant. All I know is it's an incredible song. 9.5 An album full of serious musicianship and versatility. It's Green Day with a drive, and I love it. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to play Somewhere Now over and over and over.
CrimsonArk
The opening to Somewhere Now is essentially The White Stripes-You Got Her In Your Pocket: It's soooo blatant, there's no way that it's just a coincidence lol

I kind of like how all over the place it is. Makes me think that's probably what Billie's head is like when he's writing music.
Platypus2000
I don't trust anyone who thinks that Bang Bang is the best song on the record, they have no ear for creativity or something that's upbeat and fun. I like Bang Bang but there's tracks miles better than it on here.
madafaka
I've been listening to a shitty version on youtube because I couldn't find it anywhere else. I'd skipped through Ordinary World's live recording once and didn't really seem all that great to me so I waited for the album to rediscover it. With Amy I'd listened to the live recording and loved it until the album released and it missed the "realness" for me. This time they really got that personal, quiet, acoustic sound right imo. stories and songs
After listening to this in full three times (ish), I think this might be the coolest album I've ever heard. It's like they mixed Warning, 21CB, a smidge of American Idiot, and lots of 60s, 70s, and sometimes even 50s vibes. I have no idea how this stacks up to previous records in my mind yet, but I know this one is pretty fucking amazing, and it's up there among the best. "Cool" is the best way to describe it, because it really is. The mood of this album is different from anything they've done before, but it's perfect. WARNING: I use the word "love" and "cool" about 600 times in this mini-review. Somewhere Now is reminiscent of 21CB (the song), which is ALWAYS a good thing in my book. This is so Who-ish and I don’t even particularly like The Who, but I love it when Green Day does The Who. “I never wanted to compromise or bargain with my soul/How did life on the wild side ever get so dull?” I LOVE THIS. This is just such a great opening track. Bang Bang is still super bang bangin’. Even though it’s completely different from Somewhere Now, it somehow works as a great follow-up. It’s hard to judge this and the next track since I’ve had way more time to listen to them, though. They stick out purely because I’m already so used to them. HOWEVER, I do want to point out the transition between Bang Bang and RevRad is pretty awesome. I know RevRad isn’t super well-loved, but I love it. It’s fun. It’s very American Idiot in sound. Say Goodbye is just sexy and badass and powerful I don’t know what else to say other than I might just listen to this song exclusively for the rest of my life. Like, this is the coolest song they’ve probably ever made sound-wise, right? Right. The drums are incredible. Awesome lyrics, too. “Say hello to the cops on patrol/Say hello to the ones in control” feels like a sequel to Warning lyrics. If they play this live I’ll either hit the floor or the ceiling. Excellent transition between Say Goodbye and Outlaws, even if Outlaws starts off a bit slow. Slow Green Day rarely does anything for me, so the beginning is ok but not the best—that said, it grows on me with every listen. The chorus is pretty great. I love how Billie’s voice sounds on this one. “It’s for our life beyond the stars.” I love that line, and I love whatever the sound effect is right after he sings it. At the 2:50 mark it gets awesome. So, SO awesome. And it stays that way. This is some cool shit. Also, does he use the word “hooligans”? I love you, dude. “I found a knife by the railroad track/You took a train and you can’t go back forever now/forever now you’ll roam.” THAT is how you end a song. Bouncing Off the Walls is pretty groovy. Sounds like an evolved, fully-realized Trilogy song with some 50s/60s thrown in. I can imagine listening to this while driving to the beach with the windows down. I can also imagine the people in alternate universe Grease listening to this on their way to the beach, if Grease folks were into punk rock. A bit Beatle-y too, eh? Still Breathing is a song I feel like I’ve always wanted them to try. I love music that sounds like this (maybe a little more alt than punk), and I’m SO glad they gave it a spin. “Making my way to you.” Thank you for making your way back to us. This song is so powerful on so many levels. I think I’ll always cherish it a little extra because it means so much. Youngblood is really, really fun. Probably one of my favorites written about Adrienne to date. This is ALSO pretty groovy and totally could’ve been written alongside the Beatles. I don’t know if this song is crazy memorable or anything, but I do love it. And I love “Fuck you, I’m from Oakland.” The delivery on that is perfect, and it's funny. I missed funny Green Day so much, and didn't realize it until I heard this album. THE TRANSITION between Youngblood and Too Dumb to Die is MY FAVE. I can’t believe how many people don’t like the opening, because it serves as the perfect outro to Youngblood, too. Too Dumb to Die is awesome. Very Warning era, which is a huge compliment. “Don’t cross, don’t cross the line because you’ll be a scab, not a martyr.” Fantastic line. And the “Too dumb too…” right before the guitar solo is sooooo cool. Troubled Times is one of the best songs they’ve ever written. Every line is so sharp that it feels unfair to just highlight one. Also reminds me a bit of Restless Heart Syndrome, which is coincidentally also one of the best songs they’ve ever written in my opinion. I just love how this is an out-and-out rock song. I love the darkness. And the way the tempo picks up right at the end is awesome. Fuck, this song is awesome. Heavier Green Day is the love of my life. Forever Now starts with the most hilarious line I’ve ever heard. The first half of this song is good, but not a super highlight of the album for me. I do quite like the “from the edge of the world” bits. When we reach “If this is what you call the good life, I want a better way to die,” that is when it starts getting REALLY awesome. The way it circles back to Somewhere Now is just SO masterfully done, and fits perfect. I love how this song accurately seems to wrap up the entire rest of the album nicely. It feels like a finale. Or, a finale before the real finale, I guess. It just has a way of summing up everything we just heard, from straight up punk, to some more 60s/70s rock, to a little bit of added darkness. “I want to start a revolution, I want to hear it on the radio. I ain’t gonna stand in line no more.” GOD I love this band I can’t. Ordinary World sounds just a tiny bit magical. Their acoustic songs are either a yay or nay for me, never an in between. This one? Yay. “But what we have is more than enough.” Yeah. Yeah, it is.

That Dude
Green Day: The only band that never disappoints. On my second time around the block with RevRad so it's hard to tell how I will feel about any of them but right now I'm adoring "Say Goodbye" and "Ordinary World" wait, wait, wait, wait wait. I just realized that Mike and Tre didn't get to sing lead on anything. I hate RevRad now.
