mercury
Hi, new to this forum! But, does anyone notice that the intro of Somewhere Now kind of sounds like 1039/Slappy Dissapearing Boy's bridge part?

Vaso.Of.Suburbia
Oh God I haven't been in here for ages. Times goes by and things change, but your first love is unforgetable, that's what they say, right? Some people we used to talk a lot at the chat section are now GDC staff and countless new fans have signed in, which is an exciting fact. Good to see you all again after so many years! This little onion-cutting ninja ghost named nostalgia strikes back. So I've listened to the album once and I think it's pretty decent, not as good as I expected (I really like Bang Bang, so I'd like to hear more politically focused lyrics) but waaaaay better than the trilogy. Bouncing off the wall and Troubled Times are the two songs I liked the most.
unextraordinarygirl
Outlaws sounds like a song from the 50's to me. It's got that old timey feel to it but I really like it a lot.
Siwar joe
I kindda like the album, it's not bad i mean most of the songs are good , i really like somewhere now , forever now, troubled time and bouncing off the wall
madafaka
Youngblood is the favorite of the day! Green Day can pull on the heart strings and start a riot. But what they do best is make simple, fun, fast and catchy songs about every day things such as girls
Beerjeezus
Just now, WestboundSign96 said: For Youngblood, it's "she's a cedar in the trees of Minnesota", not "sinner". Confession: when I first read that line I messed up words "cedar" and "cheddar" and it took me a considerably long while to figure out why the fuck would he compare his wife to cheddar, especially so weirdly placed in the trees. Why would anyone bring cheese to the forest and think it romantic or something, right?!

xLumian
I am starting to warm up to the album after several listens. It has definitely required multiple listens to grow on me. 2:42 - 3:06 in Forever Now is giving me a really bad headache. The competing nature of the drums and guitar just don't sound right to me. 3:06 and on sounds really nice once the guitars and drums act in unison a bit more. Ian1234
Just finished listening to it for the very first time. After listening to it, I felt "satisfied." Something that I didn't feel after listening to the Trilogy for the first time. My favorite songs on the album are: Somewhere Now, Outlaws, Bang Bang, and Forever Now. I don't think it will have the same success American Idiot or even Dookie did. But I think it will be more "successful" than the Trilogy. Overall, I give #RevRad a solid B. Strychnine.
On Say Goodbye, and I'm fucking loving it. It doesn't sound like Green Day at all but I'm really digging that for some reason. It's awesome to see the guys stretching their own boundaries. If this is what the future of Green Day is looking like I'm very excited for it. Honestly this sounds like something I can easily sing along to in the car or something, this should have been a single.

TheNimrod51
I just imagined the last chorus of Outlaws with the spark shower like they did during 21 guns with pictures of their youth cycling on the jumbo-tron during it and it made me so excited to see how they arrange these songs live. madafaka
Honestly, there is this verse in "Say Goodbye" that just bugs me. Violence on the rise - Alright, sounds promising Like a bullet in the sky - Why do I feel like this is some sort of stock lyric of Billie's? Haven't he used almost the same line in other songs as well? Oh lord have mercy on my soul - So cliché. If it had anything it was in reference to, it would be alright, but it just comes out of nowhere Kindred spirits sing for the sick and suffering - Cringe! The city of damage control - Feels like a stock lyric as well. Billie Joe, you need new words! This is how we roll - Unless you mean that this is how you roll when writing filler lyrics, I don't get it! All criticism aside. This is just about the only lyrics I take issue with on the entire album, and take it with a grain of salt. I can live with it
Semi-automatic lonely boy
my impression after the first listen: slowest green day album ever, many standard riffs, lacking melodies in the verses (the one thing i loved the most about green day songs). many songs sound like the slower classic rock influenced tracks of 21st CB. over all i'd describe it as a pop rock/ alternative rock album that maybe has only 2 or 3 songs with som punk rock influences left. they have never ventured farer from their roots. Somewhere Now - the acoustic guitar reminds me so much of another song... i just can't point my finger on it. sounds like a weaker 21st CB track 3/10 Bang Bang - best track on the record. i wish they wouldn't have released this song first. they got my hopes up with that sound. 9/10 Revolution Radio - i'll give it a generous score, since surprisingly it's still one of the better tracks 5/10 Say Goodbye - i love the verses (or the first chorus, however you'd call it). the chorus is kinda generic again. still a good mid tempo song though. could do with less effects. 6/10 Outlaws - ripping off bohemian rapsody ("life has just begone") and another song, i still don't know which one it is. i think this song represents the whole album. no original ideas, slow paced, generic. 4/10 Bouncing of the Wall - thats exactly what i meant with standard riffs. still an ok song. lyrics totally forgettable. but forgettable is better than the cringey stuff that is yet to come 4/10 Still breathing - i hoped this would be the worst song of the album when it came out... unfortunately i was wrong. 3/10 Youngblood - most annoying green day song? how boring is that repetetive "melody".... wow. how is this the same person that wrote melodies like no pride, stuart and the ave, dry ice, paper lanterns, good riddance, jinx, holiday, viva la gloria, etc? the lyrics are really bad, too. 0/10 Too Dumb to Die - fashion victim anyone? but that alaways happens with green day, so it's not exclusive to this album to use old melodies again. average "new" green day song. wouldn't stand out on the trilogy 5/10 Troubled Times - i have to listen to the lyrics again. they sounded full of platitudes on the first listen. this album really doesn't pic up any pace after bang bang. 4/10 Forever Now - should have ended after 2 minutes. after that it's just a mess. just like the lyrics. 3/10 Ordinary World - it has potential. not really a fan of billies voice here, but still good. 6/10 Overall impression: 4/10, but some songs have the potential to grow on me. time will tell. but what i know already is that i'm disappointed of the musical direction they are taking with this, especially after hearing bang bang first. xLumian
The starting guitar melody in Somewhere Now is a little chord progression that Billie played live all the time before playing Sweet Home Alabama
unextraordinarygirl
I'm loving Troubled Times on second listen. I'm sorry some of you don't like it right away. I hope it grows on you. Too Dumb To Die is still a weird song that I can't get used to yet.

Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap
First post in a while. Since I last posted here I achieved a lifelong dream of driving through Oakland listening to Green Day! Always wanted to listen to songs like Welcome To Paradise and Letterbomb at the source. Only six songs in here and I have to say the lyrics are a bit stale, however I am enjoying the song structures (made for live breakdowns), the sound of the guitars again. They're not breaking any new ground here but that's OK I just want them to deliver a focused set of songs. Most of all though I'm still really enjoying his vocal melodies, except Still Breathing which seems really cliched. Also think it will be a fun album to rattle through on guitar. Red
Okay.... I have just finished listening to the album and I am emotional wreck right now... This isn't the album I wanted from Green Day, it's the album I needed from them. No album has ever hit me like this before and I cant believe this happened. I was in tears for almost the entire duration of the album. This is the Green Day that I thought wouldn't come back after the things that were done and said during the Trilogy. The sound while could be a bit clearer and less muddy on some songs, really does fit the album and adds to just how each song is so varied and has its own personality. This album is just musical genious. It's going to be really hard to listen to the Trilogy after this. Is it going to be as big as American idiot? No... not this time. I dont think they were aiming for worldwide appeal with this album. The 3 songs that were already put out were definitely the most radio friendly singles from this album, everything else just feels very personal and basically like a love letter to their fans, family and friends. The way the first track comes back at the end just hit me so hard. Its just so beatufully epic and its pretty obvious that I already love this album, sure its different, but it's the real Green Day and they're back. I need to stop rambling on, if anyone read all of this, thank you and you have a lot of patience haha. I'll be right back after I clean my face up. Dori_Epiphone
After a few listens the album starts to grow on me: 1. Somewhere now 7/10 - Pretty weird song to start a album, but I kinda like it. 2. Bang Bang 9,5/10 - Love the song since release! 3. Revolution Radio 9/10 - Would've been a better oppener, epic 4. Say Goodbye 8,5/10 - I love the vibe of this. Very dark! Pretty boring lyrics though 5. Outlaws 9,5/10 - If this would be the last song from green day ever - It would be perfect. You don't notice that it's so long becuase it's so emotional. One of my favourites! Btw the last verse (I found a knife by the railroad track, You took a train and you can't go back, Forever now, forever now you roll) is so beautiful! 6. Bouncing of the wall 7,5/10 - Great party track, that really just makes you want to jump around the room 7. Still Breathing 8,5/10 - A great positive song that makes me happy to be (still) alive 8. Youngblood 9/10 - so f*cking catchy! Reminds me of "She's a rebel" <3 9. Too Dumb To Die 6,5/10 - That Intro though I actually like this songs and it starts to grow on me. I have to listen to this one more often 10. Troubled Time 10/10 - THAT'S A MASTERPIECE. Perfect Lyrics, Perfect Music, Perfect Singing. This could get a (very) famous song in the future. My favourite song. 11. Forever now 5/10 - This Song is so weird, I feel like the parts don't fit into each other... but maybe It will grow on me too, Love the middle part though (Oh, I, I wanna start a revolution, I wanna hear it on the radio!) 12. Ordinary World 9,5/10 - What a cute little Song. I wish it would be a littler more epic at the end like wake me up when september ends, but maybe it's good to end the album on a quiet note That's 8,3/10 (I did the math!) which means it's a very good album (for me) Not as good as american idiot or 21cb but still VERY GOOD. My third-favorite GD-Album! PS: To the people that dont like the album: I didn't either at the beginning but it's really good if you give it some more chances, trust me!
