Maddie86
so by that one DJ saying to think "chump" and "welcome to paradise" I'm really hoping that there's a sick drum and bass breakdown in it where Mike rips a sick bass line
Hero_Of_The_Hour
God I'm excited after reading those reviews they better not be messing with my head or just not actually know what Dookie or Kerplunk or 1992 Gilman Street sounded like And now I wait for the leak... That song technically is not by Green Day. The songs were fun because they were well made.. it's not funny because it was dirty, those are fun songs because they made it fun. The constant pushing of the "punk/anti-establishment" element of Green Day, from their music to their overall aesthetic. I mean they're not exactly Death Grips, they aren't any more anti-establishment than Coldplay at this point, especially in their American Idiot/21st CB era. And before someone brings up "B-but NO ONE in mainstream music was talking about Bush or politics during that time" I give you: That shit is ballsier and more "punk" then anything Green Day has ever done in their careers. It just seems kind of moot at this point. They're as part of the "system" as probably most bands.
jordanlolss
The issue that happens with these early reviews nearly every time is that they end up not being accurate. Don't get me wrong, if this new songs ends up sounding something along the lines of: then i'm all for it. I just wouldn't hold too tightly to what's being said until we've actually heard the song. I'm not disputing what has the right to be considered "punk", I'm saying it's a narrative that tends to be pushed here a lot, when in the grand scheme of things it's entirely irrelevant at this point. It seems to be pretty much synonymous with "edginess" at this point, which I'm not entirely certain how you could ever consider Green Day edgy or "fringe", they don't exactly push the envelope in any sort of way.
