I feel so offended that anyone would think Green Day are still opening acts lol

Don't tell me, I don't even like GnR, but I swear I saw someone on the web actually believing this :D

Haven't used GDC much in the last few years. When I saw the news that a new single was coming, a mixture of nostalgia and excitement just washed over me. I couldn't stop smiling :D

So glad the guys can still make me feel this way after 12 years of fandom

Why do any of you bother getting worked up about what Green Day's touring backup piano guy does on Twitter? I mean, really. He's almost as insignificant as everyone who tweets at him.

He feels quite useless to me sometimes. Don't get me wrong, in songs like St Jimmy he's essential there, and he does what he does well. But for a lot of songs they just have him standing there at the back singing backup vocals, which isn't even necessary considering Mike & Jason have that pretty much covered. Here's an example of what I mean:

And other Jason

Edit: To avoid confusion here, what I ment was Jason Freese also contributes to backing vocals.

Not that I think he is not needed.

Because he is essential to the live show.

I think you just care too much. Everyone can say it's opinion. Seriously or ironically.

Am I the only person who likes Jeff?  I love his sense of humor and the way he's messing with fans. I hope he will play more songs on the new tour ;)

I get that Jeff serves a purpose on stage, he frees the other guys up to entertain. However I always get the feeling that he is being subtely snarky at fans. He seems to be annoyed that everyone asks him about GD all the time, yet lists GD above his own products. He also puts up very vague posts like his one "This EP is taking shape. Finally. On track for late summer release! #fuckyeah"

then gets annoyed at people asking if it's for GD????

why not just make it clear from the start then he wouldn't have anything to complain about.

Tbh I feel that he does it on purpose to get more exposure for his own stuff.

But hey maybe I'm being too sceptical.

And yet every Green Day fan would kill to be in Jeff's shoes, on stage in between the Green Day members.

I wasn't saying anything like that, but I can see how it would be taken that way.

What I was saying is, it's not just Mike and Jason White that do the back up vocals, Jason freeze also contributes to backing vocals . Don't worry i love Mr Freese and his silky keyboard and sax skills too.

If we are going to talk about insignificant back up members, I'd like to say that Jeff's snark is the best. He's not a member of Green Day, so he has the freedom to poke fun at the absolute crazies who harass him on the regular.

Everyone is assuming Jeff is insignificant.  What if he isn't?  Maybe he has a role on the new album.  He did play at the Geezer premier.

He won't play on the album, he only plays live when Billie isn't able to play multiple guitars at the same time. Green Day will play on the album, and he's not a part of Green Day, he's a touring musician.

Things can change.  You really don't know if he has a role or not.  I'm not saying he does, but I'm just pointing out that everyone is assuming that things are exactly as they were before.

I love what he does too! I feel like I would do the same if I was in his place

Come on Judi. He's totally insignificant outside of a very specific sector of the Green Day fandom. Your average Green Day fan would be able to rattle off the names of the Big Three, but would be very hard put to come up with the names of the guys who play on tour with them, and they certainly don't pay attention to who plays at the premier of one of Billie Joe's wonky, non-GD projects.

I'm not saying he is.  I'm also not saying that anyone would know him.  I was simply pointing out that everyone is assuming that the line up on the new album is exactly the same as it was before.  That isn't necessarily so.  We don't know anything about the new album other than there is a new song called Bang Bang.  He may have a role, he may not.

Of course it may just be wishful thinking.  I'm with @JellyTime  I like Jeff, he is adorable.  I would rather see him than boring Jason White.  (yes I said that out loud)

It's interesting, cause we have a proof that Jeff is working with Green Day, but we don't have any information about Jason being involved in recording or rehearsals. And I wonder... What if on this tour it will be only one touring guitarist - Jeff?

No, no no. God no, that's not going to happen

There is no reason to believe that anything has changed with Green Day recording personnel or touring personnel between the last album and tour cycle to this one. No need at all.

Maybe that's the reason Billie posted #mynewband on the announcement! Green Day would look a lot different live without Jason White and with Jeff actually playing on stage and not hiding behind speakers.

Though I don't  believe that would actually happen

Jason White likes to stay away from the spotlight so im not worrying, just hoping he is well and healthy and ready to rock!
