I'm not sure that I agree with that. I'm pretty sure that Beyonce at least is putting out relatively politically-charged music, and she's huge in the pop mainstream. There's plenty of music that supports liberal viewpoints at the moment. There's not nearly as much conservative-oriented music in the mainstream, unless you count country music (I don't know a lot about it because I don't like it, though I tend to lean right. I know that a bunch of the musicians are way farther right than I'd ever be in my life, but is the music they make ever political? I have no idea.) and Megadeth, I guess.

I agree that there's lot's of politically-charged music out there right now, but I'm talking about what people want to hear, not necessarily what the artists want to put out. Lemonde is a very thought-provoking album that covers more topics than the average artist artist would touch, but if you look at the chart numbers it didn't work with people the way Drake does. More respectable, 100% but not what the masses want to hear.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but it seems like they didn't intend for the single to be announced the way it was. Through Instagram, 11 days in advance, with a short explanation from Billie. We were having talks about a single being released called "Bang Bang" because some radio station gave out that information before the Instagram post. I think Billie's post was more of a way to answer speculation officially after that station spilled the beans.

^ yes, that too.

Yes, I realize it exists, I'm actually studying it. Thanks for the patronizing tone though.

Still, if they decide they want the song to be released on the radio for the first time, it helps to know that a few days beforehand. I don't listen to the radio and neither does anyone of my friends or anybody my age that I know. So if they hadn't announced it, I would have missed it. And if they want to release it via radio, then that's their choice and their way to go. You can't just drop something like a new song or a new album and expect anyone, who's not a fan and monitors their social media, to actually know or care about what's happening. My friend who likes Green Day casually had no idea they were even recording a new album and for sure wouldn't have even noticed if they suddenly posted a new song.

That's how a lot of album/single release cycles work nowadays though. Things are dropped out of the blue all the time, sometimes even tied exclusively to certain platforms, yet they still manage to get around.

And I apologize, it wasn't my intention to come off as patronizing.

The GDC's staff told us that they knew something was coming out today, and I see no reason to don't trust them. I think this is an actual viral strategy.

Agreed. The great power of AI and 21CB was that the politics were part of a story which people can relate to on a personal and emotional level. Holiday is about going out and having fun in town, whilst being a scathing criticism of Bush. Boulevard of Broken Dreams is about the hangover, but also about the lies perpetrated by the media, the loneliness of living in a society which has failed the individual. These songs brilliantly blend the personal and political, whilst conveying a message that can be interpreted in different ways, yet one that is in every interpretation so profound and true. This is something 99 Revolutions lacked and something BANG BANG and 12 as a whole needs to bring forth again: the intimate bond between the political and personal, the society and the individual.

I disagree.  I think everything they are doing is very planned.  We knew about the radio station, but it was not hitting mass media until Billie posted his instagram.

I guess they had their reasons then.

I wonder if bang bang will be the opening track for the next album. If there's a title track then I assume that would be first, but i'm gunna assume that bang bang would be one of the first 4 songs or so.

also, this thread kinda reminds me of when I was 14 and warning was about to come out. I got on napster and tried to find a leak of some songs and I ended up downloading a song that was labeled as being on warning but it just ended up being 2nd Street by Pinhead Gunpowder. now I feel old. seriously, I just brought up napster.

Holy Shit.. Same here lol! Fashion Victom?? ?

Do we agree that Rolling Stone still not saying a word can only mean one thing (and not that they're lazy asses)?

What is that?

Agree 100 % - at thsurface AI was made up of personal themes with many levels underneath (political, punk ethics etc).

Hopefully the title of the song isn't an indication of the chorus just being composed of the words "bang bang" over and over again ala Let Yourself Go.

A 4 year wait for something like that would be heartbreaking, especially if for whatever reason the production style resembles the trilogy.

I think I'm having a fucking aneurysm at the thought of it all.

Honestly I hope they don't mention the term "bang bang" in the song at all. Hopefully that's just a title and the song will have better lyrics. We all know they can do better.

Also, a radio station wouldn't go as far as revealing the title without permission from the band.

Interesting. Also Green Days website technically didn't announce it. Rather they just said "billie Joe on Instagram" I read an article on album leaks that interviewed someone at warnerbros. They basically said that short term announcements or rather, no announcement just a release. Is becoming a new thing to prevent leaks.

Which, unless I missed something, they didn't. All the radio station did was let us know that the band will come in to play them some songs from the album, but the radio never revealed any titles.

Understandable. I suppose this started with Beyoncé and seeing how well that turned out everybody wants to try it.

Rolling Stone is the only big online magazine that didn't write an article about BANG BANG. I assume (speculate) they're waiting to release a more detailed coverage, maybe with a brand new photoshoot.

I dont really get why would someone want to leak stuff, it just spoils the fun in a way. Its better if you wait in excitement for the day to arrive rather than hearing a shitty upload of a song and then the official release isnt that exciting anymore

Well, there isn't really much to write about yet. All we really know is that their new song is called Bang Bang and that it premiers on August 11th. So yes, I think that too. Maybe they're even waiting until the album cover is revealed and until they've had the time to listen to the songs or interview the band.

True. I love leaks but I hate leaks because they let me listen early but it kills the excitement of waiting for a specific date.

There isn't much that we know about, industry insiders probably know the entire album.
