Back on topic though, I wouldn't be all that surprised if the single becomes available for purchase on the 11th, or at least gets uploaded to the Green Day YouTube channel.

From the caption on Billie's post worded as the single being "put out", I assumed it meant available to purchase, not simply being released on air.

I am all about Billie expressing his views on politics but I'm hoping the new single isn't about gun control.

I think if it is about gun control it's likely to be about it in a not overwhelmingly clear way.  Green Day are much more a band for writing songs that can be interpreted as a political issue, but can also apply to wider life.  It's part of the reason their songs are so successful - if American idiot had mentioned Bush explicitly people wouldn't be anywhere as interested in it now as they had been.  The song will have been written a fair while ago, so although gun control/gun violence is an ongoing issue, it wouldn't have been known at the time of writing quite how big it would be now.  It would've been a big risk to make the song too clearly about that.

That'd be a good date actually that's the same day Nimrod. came out 19 years earlier

And I was born 1 week before the release of Nimrod, so that would be pretty cool as well.

Have not cared for or even listened to Green Day after that trilogy abomination but I must admit this is exciting times for an ex Green Day fan and everyone here. Hope this new material rekindles the flame. A new tour will be awesome too.

I think that the only sure thing is that this Frank Maddocks loves collages. And a collage artwork could be amazing :)

I'd really like some cool collage artwork in the booklet. Speaking of which, who else is fucking hyped to go to the record store and picking up the physical copy, slam that bad boy in and read the lyrics as you hear the songs for the first time? Cause I sure as fuck am.

Are they collabing with Rihanna?

in all seriousness , i'm hyped. the song title..well whatever. my favourite band is back. it's all that matters.

"bang bang" doesn't sound like a concept album is coming. yet again, it can be a song where characters shoot each other and go to jail.Another lesson learned and failed.

Another presumption, Mike will yell "BANG!!BANG!!" , the way he yells at Brain Stew performances.

Indeed. References will be subtle superficially yet very powerful at the same time, both pertaining to broader and personal issues. I don't think they will mention Trump or the NRA for example directly, just like they haven't ever dropped the names of Bush and Obama on AI and 21CB.

I wouldn't mind, she is an incredible vocalist

I wonder if they will play Nimrod in full during touring like they did for Dookie

I think they did that for Dookie purely because of how much of a smash hit that album was. Nimrod sold ok and was well received, but it's no Dookie.

That unique moment. . I absolutely look forward too.

Yeah but among their fans, Nimrod is one of the favourite albums. It would be interesting

I was just looking at Frank Maddocks catalogue of work.  I know that the instagram showed some kind of collage, but his previous work seems to be more simple.  He takes some really nice pictures, in some interesting poses.  He seems to often really focus on the artists faces.  I really like his work, it is very powerful, in a simple way.  I'm really looking forward to what he has done for GD.

isnt the normal "process" nowadays to air singles on a radio station on thursday and release the single officially on friday (spotify, itunes etc) ?

yeah I agree, Nimrod is a really good album, and now that we got talking about it I'm definitely gonna listen to it tonight haha

Man. All it took was the announcement of a new song and I'm 14 again, listening to all the old music and googling interviews and funny youtube videos of the band.

I can't wait to sit down on my bed and begin to look at the cover and sleeve art as those first few notes play.

What are the odds of a coloured vinyl, either as standard or as a special edition?

It's not gonna happen cause it will leak at least 4-5 days earlier and you won't be able not to listen to it.

Ah Petros. You know I think you're wrong. I've been burned before. I talked about this in an earlier thread, about how I got hold of a bootleg version of Viva La Gloria and listened to it on repeat. It was admittedly an amazing bootleg of staggeringly low quality, but I think this time I'll bide my time.

I've gone to the school of patience, my friend. I've long-distance dated for over 6 years of my life.

If the new album sounds anything like nimrod, it will be my favorite green day album ever.

didja know that the band just went to the studio and made that album without preparation? Billie has said that he'll never go into the studio without having lyrics again.

Yes I do know that. And still the lyrics on that album are superb.

yes, it stands like a testament to BJs work ethic. I never thought Armstrong wrote lyrics in the quality of someone like Alex Turner, but Nimrod still had some zingers

Another presumption, kerplunk girl on the single cover. All grown up and holding a gun, which directly references to bang bang. Plus it's not boring like a simple gun picture. This is more like advice than presumption.I hope Billie or the guy is reading this.
