When you have a body of work as large as Green Day does, it's natural for their new stuff to be compared to their other stuff I think. If they didn't have old stuff to compare it to, you know these reviewers would be comparing it to songs by similar artists :P

I know, haha. I feel like it's just setting silly expectations for people when they should go into it with a fresh mind.

I know, but right now that's the only thing people can do to let us know how it sounds

I agree, I think these reviews being put out before the song is in the hands of the public are just annoying. Definitely smacks of attempting to shape perception, which I don't like (even if they're trying to shape perception positively).

All it's showing is that these reviewers know fuck all about what is supposedly their job if they're all coming out saying it sounds like different songs.  If they aren't capable of getting it right, why do they try to compare?!

From somebody who listened the song today, it seems that sounds like "Bab's Úvula Who?"

I'm f***ing impacient right now :runaround:

If it sounds like anything off of Insomniac, then I'm happy and excited as fuck!

I don't really hope for a lot of radio play after the release tomorrow...
Normal radio stations just play like 21 Guns or Wake Me Up and obviously Bang Bang can't be compared to songs like this.

And that just brought my level of excitement down again.

Come on, Babs' Uvula Who is a kick-ass song.

here in houston, its even worse... they (the ONLY alt/rock station in the 4th largest US city) tend to play only good riddance, brain stew (sans jaded), or if we're lucky, holiday or she...

Bang Bang is clearly a fast-paced, expletive-ridden punk anthem - you can tell from all the no evidence we have.

I was listening to Live 105 a few minutes ago when driving to work, and they're apparently auctioning off the chance for someone to announce the new song with them at 7AM tomorrow. Bidding starting at $53 dollars.

Obviously we don't know how it sounds yet but so many reviews talk about a fast punk rock song sounding like their old stuff.
So I think it's safe to say that Bang Bang won't be like WMUWSE or 21 Guns in the sense of mainstream radio plays

I don't think so.  I'm not a big fan of insomniac to start and that song is one if my least favorites.  But the point is not the particles song but the fact that I don't want it to sound like something they did 20 years ago.

So they get you to pay them to do their job instead of them?  Seems like a pretty bad deal.

That was great. I especially enjoyed the very last sentence. Coincidence or subtlety?

I'm pretty sure it was subtlety.

I like Babs' Uvula Who, but I agree with you.  I don't want it to sound like old green day.  I'd love it to sound like current Green Day doing their take on a similar style that old green day did, but where you can hear the lyrics properly and it draws on their current state of affairs.  But then again, that is merely one of the many things I'd love.

Actually on two separate occasions, I heard "She's a Rebel" in a local store, and later (when I got my American Idiot CD) I heard "Last of the American Girls" over Walmart's store radio.

I just tweeted Signal 107 in the UK to ask what time they'll play it and then suddenly my dad phoned me saying they just said my name on the radio and that they'll be talking about the song shortly. Did not expect to get a mention on the radio!
