I am not sure if they don't do it anymore OR if I don't notice it because I never have the actual radio on anymore. That's a good question. The extent of my experience with #hype is seeing what Green Day does. So I actually have no idea what normals do.

DookieLukie
I'd like more hype than an Instagram post. I guess it gets posted on the FB too, but there seems to be nothing too official.

DookieLukie
This is what happened during 21CB. Promotion was non-existent. I thought the Trilogy did a better job, but here we go again.

I renewed my Idiot Nation membership last month hoping when single release time came around they'd be offering little sneak peaks or even "hey, since you paid us we're gonna let you hear the song an hour earlier than the world premiere" but it's nothing but Idiot of the Month. **nobodylikesyou**
they have 31,810,570 people that like their facebook page, 4.09 million (ironic right? LOL) follow GD on twitter, wouldn't you think they would be promoting the crap out of this? I mean that what it seems like the guys are trying to do on their instagrams, but BJA doesn't even have a million followers and mike and tre have 300,000. Seems like their not utilizing what they could.

It was a male DJ too, I dunno how many of their DJs have blogs but it's not that Bailey girl that they have on the station. I've been listening to 100.5 a little more too but I haven't heard them mention the single yet and John hasn't updated me as to whether or not they will be getting it. 100.5 is a local station and KGB is an iheartradio station, so maybe the local stations might not get it right away
Maid Meringue
It's actually really interesting to compare the different ways that Green Day hyped for the newer albums (feel free to refresh my memory if I'm wrong) For example, I wasn't a fan right when AI came out, but the technology was a hell of a lot different 12 years ago so I could only assume that they relied on traditional methods. When 21stCB was dropping, there was a shit ton of articles and album previews being pushed out even before the final tracklistings were established. Still pretty traditional but most of these articles could be found online (or GDA put up scans). The trilogy did a lot of youtube videos to try adding hype. It really didn't make much of a difference. And now we see that they're relying almost entirely on their private social media accounts. It's a bit ironic because the purpose of hype and promotion is to increase sales. They are already getting sales from people like us who buy anything they put out, so the goal of any type of marketing/promotional effort is to recruit/convert people who are not currently fans. Now if they're becoming more social media based, only the people who already follow them will be exposed to the promotion. So I'm wondering how this is going to benefit their record sales. James11693
Yea it's upsetting that there's been hardly any promotion. Breakdown and the trilogy had a bunch before any real news occurred. There's been like no promotion so far compared to the last couple albums. Hopefully they step up their game, want this album to be big and feel like it has that potential if handled correctly

PursuitOfEpicness
Maybe they're saving all their promotion money for right after the single to promote the album? No idea, either way, it's frustrating and fans have been the ones sharing everything. Especially GDA.
Justin1
I'm sure by this time Friday anyone who is interested in hearing new Green Day, or likes popular rock music will have heard it, and it will have over a million views on YouTube and thousands of comments to laugh at by people who have no clue what they're talking about

Maid Meringue
Maybe they're also not super concerned with exposure and would rather solidify bonds to the fans they already have, rather than focusing on making new ones. From a financial standpoint it's not the best way to go but they're loaded anyway, it may not make a difference to them at this point and they'd rather just put out a record for the sake of it.
