How come Mike and Tre sometimes don't get the same love from fans as Billie does . It always feels like a one man show effect with Mike and Tre part of the " house band ' with the big three .

Mike should be lucky he gets some love. He's the bass player after all.

I've not seen the band live, but from what I've seen Jeff seems to jump up and down a lot, sings during the chorus, or waves his arms to get the fans to wave their arms. I've not seen much footage of him actually playing the guitar.

it sounds like you're bitching about Jeff and then attempting to justify it by holding up the "it's just my opinion" internet-shield.

i don't disagree with you. People start feeling too entitled and too easily shit on other members. Similarly to what you're doing.

I was just saying Jeff is replaceable and doesn't really add much to the band, but I never "bitched" about him or said they should get rid of him. They need someone to play for Billie when he's singing like in St.Jimmy, but I still think he's not that important really.

And I don't really know what you're talking about, Andres. Sometimes I can be too rough I guess, but I'm never truly disrespectful or a "douche" towards other members or put myself above anyone.

Maybe you guys are too sensitive sometimes, maybe it's just me, I don't really know. But this passive-agressive shit it's getting tiring, we should stop.

Nah I didn't mean just questioning what he adds to the band. I mean the thing where people act like he's above himself and make generally snide comments about him, when all he's done is make a couple of slightly snarky jokes all in good fun on twitter and his sense of humour doesn't seem any "worse" than the other band members'. I also see snarkiness about both Jasons which I see absolutely no reason for. No idea what started it off and it irritates me :P

Ohhh, I don't really think he is really that snarky, but when he gets mad about people asking him about GD... ugh.

Aw thanks, I love you too.

Not all their songs are written for 3 guitarists and even if they are, it doesn't mean the songs are complicated.  It just means they are using 3 guitarists.  The piece parts are normally very simple.  GD is not hard to play either, but their later stuff can be a bit tricky, the Foos, not so much.  Plus, GD is a hell of alot more fun to play.

On stuff pre wasting light the third guitarist doubles the rhythm, same as green day I think? Wasting Light and Sonic Highways the three guitarists play different things, but you can get away with 2 guitarists

Eh foo fighters and green day aren't exactly known for excellent guitar playing, they're both pretty rudimental imo, in my experience FF has been harder to play due to Dave using stranger voicing of chords whilst GD tends to use power chords or bar chords.

Fuck if you want fun to play RHCP is the way to go

If you're saying bass players aren't respected enough, I agree.  If you're saying he's a bassist so doesn't deserve love, I point you towards No One Knows, Longview, panic song and many others.  He gets so much love because he's a very good musician.

As is Jeff.  It takes a good musician to be content with standing in the corner behind a stack of amps, being the only supporting musician that isn't regularly mentioned by Billie and playing the boring parts of songs that are there to add depth but that nobody really notices unless they're gone.  Unless he starts being disgustingly obnoxious (which he isn't even close to) I will have a massive amount of respect for him.  He has the unglamorous side of a life in rock and roll.

If I'm just making the common joke that bass player are gay and aren't being liked by anyone?

Am I the only person who likes Jeff?  I love his sense of humor and the way he's messing with fans. I hope he will play more songs on the new tour ;)

Yes :P He replied to you several times that's why you like him :P I don't like such trolls like him. Imo he's sometimes rude for fans.

It's interesting, cause we have a proof that Jeff is working with Green Day, but we don't have any information about Jason being involved in recording or rehearsals. And I wonder... What if on this tour it will be only one touring guitarist - Jeff?

Jeff can be on stage but not instead of Whitey. Of course if Jason need some more time to heal I can understand that but I will miss him. He's integral part of Green Day, as well as Jason Freese and Jeff.

Of course! I know that people concentrate on Billie as he's vocalist but all band members should be equal. Fan girls are different category

Petros is right.  Even though it doesn't look like it to us diehard fans, most people hardly notice the other band members. No wonder they don't get much attention outside of the fanbase.

I'd miss Jason too. He belongs to the band after all that time. Jeff as the only guitarist is a scary concept. :P

Lead singer and song writer will get more attention no matter what band.

Van Halen (IK that EVH is the main songwriter. Or, at least, I believe he is)

Honestly the Green Day fanbase are one of the few that seems to actually equally like all the members.

You go to other band concerts and no one even knows who anyone else besides the lead singer is.

Here we are in a thread talking about a back up guitarist. We are well informed lol.

We also (as a whole) seem to all be pretty cool with their wives. I know there's the odd weirdo who has a problem with a wife (usually Adrienne lmao) but for the most part people are so nice about the families too. It was so awesome at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction last year when Mike mentioned his wife and her cancer battle and everyone cheered for her.

My point was that you can barely hear him and he adds little if anything to the live shows, I never said acoustic guitars = irrelevant.

He adds a ton to live shows...his and Jason Freese's harmonies are some of my favorite parts of a GD concert.

He only adds when he's got the wooden box with strings in his hands. If he's not playing, he's unnecessary. Jason Freese is always necessary since he adds piano where it's needed or sax where it fits. There's never a moment where he's just singing backing and not playing, unlike Jeff.

Why is this a thing?   Sure he could be replaced but so could Billie Joe!  I've never even thought about this topic in all my years of obsessing with Green Day.   I like Jason White, Jason Freeze and Jason Matika and wouldn't want any of them to leave the Green Day Touring Band.  If they parted ways for whatever reason though it wouldn't make me upset.  Right now I'm still trying to figure out if Jason White is still the "official" fourth member, or if they just want to distance themselves from everything related to the trilogy whatsoever and just forgot that ever happened.    As I said elsewhere on here, Billie and Mike are the life blood of Green Day.   We could lose everyone else and the band could still make Green Day music.  If it came down to just Billie Joe and a bunch of random dudes.....I don't know.  I'd still buy their records but would it be the same?  I don't know.    Everclear was a band that I loved and continue to love, but when the drummer and bass player both left and were replaced by four unknown dudes, the music suffered.  Sure the lead singer wrote nearly all the lyrics and music, but there was a BIG difference.   There is a pecking order in Green Day and Jeff Matika is the first that would have to go if it came down to it for me.   But I like him just fine.

I don't want him to be replaced, I think his role altogether is unnecessary and barely adds anything. I truly believe nobody would notice if they didn't have anyone doing what he does

As for him personally, I remember probably a year ago some girl called him rude for some reason on Twitter (probably him trolling like always), and he tweeted about it for literally hours, maybe even days. He just always seems like a cock to me

I have to say, I haven't really warmed up to Jeff yet and sometimes he does seem a bit redundant to me on stage. But if the band thinks he isn't, then he probably has shown his worth. They're probably not paying him for standing in the corner and looking pretty. Replacing Jeff with another guitarist/vocalist would be pointless, because he wouldn't do a lot more than Jeff does now. People who say he should be replaced probably do so because they don't like him as a person and would be fine with another "useless" touring member, so... :)

I know some like to give Jeff a hard time, but I've always had a fantasy of playing rhythm and singing backup with Green Day- and he not only does it, he's owned the role for about 7 years and counting. Good for him!
