Dakke Posted August 2, 2016 Share Posted August 2, 2016 I never felt like he was that crucial with both Jason's on stage, but I have no complaints about his live performance nor am I a close follower of his so my opinion about him is rather neutral. On stage he makes only background, but when it comes to other things, I think he's really significant. He's chatting with fans on twitter or instagram - maybe sometimes in very ironic way, but he could be kind of sweethart reposting fanarts or something. Maybe he needs an attention, but at the same time he's open to people and that's a lot. I mean he's the only band-related person who you can easily talk with. Seems pretty clear from the Jeff Matika Show he gets on well with the other members and has a similar sense of humour and is in on all their little in jokes etc. But he doesn't act like he's bigger than he is other than in jest, and is often self deprecating in his jokes. Of course someone else could sing and play guitar but that's not really the point is it? You could technically say the same for any musician in any band. Point is they get on and his sound is right for them so it works. This thing of being bitchy about touring band members/other people connected with Green Day for no apparent reason is relatively new on GDC and I don't really get it, it seems childish. I do see people complaining that Jeff is snarky (and to be fair he is) but I've never found him to be less than pleasant in any encounters I've had with him! And I don't think he should be forced to hide his natural personality just because he is associated with Green Day.
