PursuitOfEpicness
Normally I would say every part of a band is important but because I feel like he thinks he is greater than he is, no. People can have their opinions about his sense of humor or whatever but I like to think I'm someone that loves a good sense of humor but he's just kind of rude (at least online). I enjoyed when he had the guys on his show though. That was the most I ever saw of him.

Sarcasm
I don't think I've ever been to a show where he wasn't behind some kind of counter, singing and playing guitar. I don't think the band would keep him around if he really was such a cunt.

Chin for a Day
Damn, one little comment and I started this. He is cute. I like him. I wasn't trying to start a separate conversation. I was simply trying to point out that people are assuming that everything is exactly the same as it was before. We don't know that. We have no idea what the line up is for the new album. It may be exactly the same, it may not. Chill people.

kripack
Green Day used to have prerecorded bits in songs like BOBD, Whatsername and some others, now Jeff plays that parts. He also fills in for Billie a lot in songs like Oh love, not to mention St. Jimmy, King For a Day, etc. And as for vocals - I think he is a far better singer than Mike. There are songs where Mike doesn't sing any back vocals, but Jeff does. Not to mention 4 guys on back vocals sounds just realy awesome live. SamJam98
I'd say he is. I doubt he'd be kept around if he wasn't, he obviously serves a purpose. Of course, he's not a member of the band, so not significant to the same level of Billie or Mike, but I bet there would be a noticeable difference to live shows if he wasn't there. This topic seems more to do with people not liking Jeff and his sense of humour, but I think it's great!

I'm not saying there is, but we don't know anything for sure, which was my point. Why are you so positive that nothing has changed, are you their PR guy?? FYI, I most definitely know the difference between a piano and a guitar and I know the difference between jeff Matika and Jason Freese. And Billie always plays acoustic guitars in jam sessions. Is he insignificant?

Is he insignificant? I just said it's very unlikely, never said I was completely positive. What does acoustic jam sessions have to do with Jeff?? My point was that you can barely hear him and he adds little if anything to the live shows, I never said acoustic guitars = irrelevant.
Steven Seagull
He looks like he plays guitar hero on stage while Billie and Jason do all the work. But he replies to my tweets so I'm all for #TeamJeff
Lizzie Atwell
Yes and no. Another guitarist has been needed to bring the sound to stage and to free up billie to perform. However I think he does come across very snarky online. He gets annoyed at people asking him about GD all the time but he surely knew what he was signing up for. I think the role he plays is significant but personally feel someone who respected the fans a bit more would be better. I would love to see someone like Kevin Preston take his position, he has a lot more understanding of what it's like to really be a fan of something. Billie plays acoustic guitar when everyone else is playing electric, similar to Jeff.

Playing acoustic guitar in Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) and Boulevard of Broken Dreams first verse isn't exactly the same as playing acoustic backup guitar in Welcome to Paradise and American Idiot. It's pretty clear that you started your own war against Jeff, but...Man, relax! If he's there, it means that someone needs him! Billie Joe, Trè and Mike are expert musicians, they know what they do. I can't believe that GD's fandom really has to discuss about these kind of things.

Billie is technically irrelevant there but it's the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show, they want a lot of famous figures to play together, is part of the show. It's like when Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax played "Am I Evil?" in their DVD, they didn't exactly need 8/9 guitars to play at the same time, it's all part of the show. Not comparable to the whole Jeff situation tho.
