Green Day started rehearsing for upcoming tour

Personally, I am not concerned about album sales because I care about quality and quality alone. But because many of you seem to think Green Day is poised to "take over the world again" with this release (not likely to happen IMO), what are you expecting this album to sell first week?  I think it would be incredible if it hit 100k or higher.  I'm going to guess 80k however.

I'm thinking it'll probably be as successful as Blink's new album. People are really starting to like alternative more.

All this blink talk makes me realize how awesome Matt Skiba guesting on a GD song would be. Will probably never happen, but would be rad.

One of the few guests that I'd allow on a Green Day album

I'm feeling optimistic about the sales of this new album.

Regardless of how much hate the trilogy gets, it would've done pretty well if it wouldn't be for the iHeart Radio "incident" (honestly I didn't blame Billie for the rant).

Me too. I don't know where it is. I wish if anyone saved it they would sent it my way!

Didn't they do press and stuff in Newport for the trilogy?

Yes they rented a house and let press people listen to it all day.

Fuckers. Didn't invite us.

That's pure torture. Locking poor ppl up with trilogy on repeat? Cruelty.

Imagine listening to Nightlife and Lady Cobra three times in a row without being able to skip it.

I think the iheartradio incident helped sales to be honest.  Controversy sells.

I disagree. @JJ1964 wrote up the numbers in the trilogy thread, and they indicate that not long after iHeart Oh Love had fallen completely off the charts, whereas it was doing very well before that.

i don't really know if i see this selling as well as blink's new album, although obviously i hope it does. for whatever reason it's always seemed like everyone i know around my age is a huge fan of blink (or at least loves all their singles) but i don't think that your average 20 something really cares what green day are doing right now. maybe the new album will change that.

i'm really hoping for a tour with smaller venues like they were originally going to do on the first leg of the trilogy tour.

(also hi i'm honestly not even mentally prepared for the fact that green day are actually doing things and we're going to hear new music soon i'm so anxious :runaround: )

For a while it did, but thanks to it the band couldn't continue to promote the album properly.

No more interviews, no more music videos, no more tv appearances no more world tour, no more hype.

If that didn't happen, the trilogy could easily had been Billboard 200 #1.

Completely off topic but because it keeps getting mentioned, am I the only one who thought the new Blink album was god-awful?

Wait, there are people who thought the new album was good?

Funny, somehow the trilogy discussion was able to sneak into this thread as well. It's time we spot the leak and fix once and for all.

I didn't and still don't blame him either. Actually, he's been workin a whole fuckin lot (everyone of them was and is) and never allowed himself to rest. I wouldn't wanna live his live, you need to be a very strong character to live a life like that and not go totally nuts. Yes, he had a breakdown - but he pulled himself up again. I don't wanna bring this topic back up, just wanted to point out, that I don't think that iheart really made any true Green Day fans turn their back on them. I was kind of sad to see him in that kind of bad helthshape but I never judged him. The media.. well... i dont care about the media. I rather judge myself

You're surely not the only one but holy shit why California is so hated? I blame Tom DeLonge departure and Matt Skiba. Some people jus't can't handle changing.

I'll keep on loving the Trilogy and California if you excuse me :tired:

It was clear they were trying WAY too hard to make something as if it was still 2001.  Successful bands evolve, even if only slightly.  And it was massively overproduced.  The trilogy had some of the same problems but at least the songs themselves were good for the most part.  None of the songs on California were good imo.

I get that we can get a bit off topic and that's why I will not continue discussing this but ugh...

You can't say two sentences about another topic without getting reminded that there are other threads about it...

None of them we're good??

C'mon man. Bored to Death, Los Angeles, Cynical, Kings of the Weekend...

I would be very surprised if any Green Day album sold less than 100k the first week (with the exception of the trilogy due to the quantity). My guess would be 150-200k, depending on the popularity and how well received the first single is; with either a #1 or or #2 debut here and a top 10 in most other countries. Probably could even surpass 200k if the first single is really well received.

I'm not backseat modding, I just want to talk about the new album.

You do that then, you don't tell other people what to talk about, if I recall correctly you were doing this in the previous thread too.
