Rev Rad > Dos > FOAM > Uno > Tre

(FOAM Uno and Tre are pretty much equal to each other though)

Okay fine

Rev Rad > Tre > Uno > FOAM > Dos

But I love them all of course.

This is what we’re doing? The Trilogy can be hyper discussed on several levels but this is fun and seems simple enough. Just a personal opinion (although I do love them all for various reasons).

Uno > Dos > RevRad > FOAM > Tre (FOAM and RevRad can be switched in order of mood. Sometimes it’s FOAM > RevRad).

Yes, Dos has Nightlife but it also has See You Tonight, Stop When the Red Lights Flash, Wild One and Fuck Time so as a Longshot and FBHT fan I’m seeing the greatness of Dos and Uno with a couple of songs I skip on both those records but the whole make up for some of the lesser fav parts. More is more and I love the Trilogy.

The way the records are organized is great. However, I feel Tre is the boring aftermath of greatness. Ironically Tre Cool is the exact opposite of boring back to boring life aftermath. I barely ever listen to Tre (the record not the drummer give me all the Tre Cool all the time).

Exception: Dirty Rotten Bastards

Hm I most definitely don't consider Brutal Love, 8th Avenue Serenade, Amanda, Dirty Rotten Bastards and The Forgotten as the boring aftermath.

RevRad > Tre > Uno > Dos > Father of All

Dos goes above FOAM because FOAM doesn't have any amazing, top tier songs on it. Dos has Lazy Bones which is a perfect song.

It’s the way the songs are organized on each record. It was on purpose. Each record has a distinct feel and theme.

It was like Uno was sort full fun and having crushes like old school Green Day, Dos was like the dirty record and Tre was the after. It was a progression of energy and feeling. Tre was down and pretty sad. And kind of like needing to face reality like it or not. Like the writing was wistful and leaving something behind to be somewhere he thought he was supposed to be but maybe was always thinking of wanting to step away again. Sometimes growing up sucks. And you’re forced to deal with stuff you can’t run away from.

Tre is a downer. It’s a great record but it’s pretty sad like something is being left behind but it’s not like they want it that way. Like the Forgotten. Or basically any song on Tre. X-Kid is a heartbreaker.

Dirty Rotten Bastards is great and has some pick me up energy but is still a little down. I love that song. But still: We’re too old to be misbehaved. And I love  the reference to the character Julianna Homicide. Blushing bride? But the name seems kind of like trouble. Is she a weird saint mother mary Marie saint not a celebrity kind of character? He seems to like characters that are nice but trouble. What is that about? It’s like Billie’s songwriting character is always looking for the eject button to escape to have a lot of fun and friendship but also chaos. It’s like he’s happiest then. His writing and character building is super amazing. I love the way he wrote for the trilogy. Uno, Dos and Tre may have been organized in such a way to have a theme or a progression but much of the songwriting was coming from a real place or it really felt like it did. It was just presented in a certain order regardless of when the songs were written or what the inspiration was.

Tre has some great songs, but whereas Uno and Dos both feel like they have their own identity/theme I don't get that with Tre. Some songs feel like leftovers (Little Boy Named Train, Drama Queen, Amanda), others feel misplaced (99 Revs) and others have no place being on any GD record (Forgotten). Missing You and X-Kid are both rad though.

Glad we're discussing this!

My favorite thing about the trilogy is the Quatro doc.

I guess because they organised the songs they had into a theme for each album (rather than writing them separately or whatever) maybe one of them had to kind of get stuck with leftovers (not bad songs, but just songs that don't necessarily make as strong a theme) and Tre was it? I remember there's a scene in Cuatro with them trying to organise the songs on a board....it must've been a nightmare trying to figure it out tbh . I agree with @Virginia Lot Lizard's description of the three album's themes but I do agree that Tre's theme is a bit weaker than the others.

¡Dos! > ¡Tré! > ¡Uno! > RevRad > Father of All.

I love RevRad, but ¡Dos! is 100% solid bangers. ¡Tré! has Brutal Love, Missing You, 8th Avenue Serenade, X-Kid and The Forgotten. Although I've overplayed ¡Uno!, I still love the "pre-party" (kind of impending doom, but fun impending doom) vibe. The only track I'm super enthusiastic about on Father of All is Meet Me on the Roof.

RevRad> Dos> Uno> Tre> FOAM

I like or love all of them.  RevRad is my favorite GD album.  The others rank in the middle to bottom.  Dos is the most fun trilogy album; should have been dirtied up and released as the Foxies though.  Also, Troublemaker should have been on Dos.  Uno is fine, but has too many songs that sound like generic GD, like songs Billie could write in his sleep.  I think Tre is the worst GD album lyrically speaking, but will always love 8th Ave Serenade and Walk Away.  Still hoping we hear more FOAM songs live at some point, esp TTMAC and SYITH.

THIS! With "Stop, Drop, and Roll" after Uno and before Tre!

Hello Fireceacker and Satellite were the best songs of the Trilogy - just like 'Wonderful' being the best song of 21st CB .

"Angel Blue" and "Sweet 16" are among my favorite songs from the band's catalogue.

New Trilogy Instrumentals confirmed to me that all 37 songs have something to offer. The most boring song instrumental wise is 99 Revolutions, but even that one has interesting lyrics. Shame it was released one year too late.

I've been waiting for so many years that I can finally hear Nightlife without vocals (I love Nightlife's vocals, but I wanted to hear it without those aswell) and now that I did, I'm positive that it's by far the most interesting song from Green Day. Vibes that I'm getting from that instrumental is something that I haven't experienced before from Green Day song. Beautiful song.

Thank you for posting this! I hadn't heard the instrumentals came out. I've always said it would be a good song without the vocals (Lady Cobra's anyway, I'm fine with Billie's) and wanted to hear the "song behind the song". Link for anyone who might not have heard it.

I've not heard these instrumentals. How were they made? Were the vocals edited out or did whoever made them get the instrumental tracks or something?

I've said many times that Nightlife would've been received better if it were an instrumental track. The bass in that song is great. The guitar solo is also great (as most solos in the trilogy are). And the accompanying guitar and drums throughout the song are also good. The drumming here stands out more without the vocals too

The only issue I had with Nightlife was Lady Cobra. It's awesome that the band chose to feature a relatively unknown artist rather than do what everyone else does and feature someone of equal or higher status. But the performance is meh and the lyric writing on Lady Cobra's parts are pretty cringe for lack of a better word. I think Billie's vocals, though odd, work quite well with the song

I know this is the Greatest Hits Tour or something like that right now but I can't believe they didn't pull a single Trilogy song on the setlist since 2012.
I just hope the Trilogy will eventually be played in a Green Day concert and not only for The Longshot or other side project.
