Jacob Ives
I Know this is a very debatable topic, but in my honest opinion, the Trilogy is some of the boys' best work that they have done. Not to say AI and all their other albums weren't good, but the Trilogy just stood out because of how deep the songs were and how much i could connect to the songs on that album in a way such as missing you and fell for you. It's so hated by the Green Day community and i don't one bit understand why the albums are so hated. My personal favorite song right now is actually the most hated song on those albums "Nightlife". The bass is fun to play for a bass player such as myself and Lady Cobra and Billie's Vocals are so mellow and just good to listen to while laying in bed while casually playing guitar/bass. People tend to hate it because it's cool to hate it and never really never give a valid reason as to why they hate it so much. If I cant change your mind, this is ok, you do you, but the trilogy is gold and that will never change. Lowkey in love with the song Drama Queen right now.
pacejunkie punk
Who says it's hated by the GDC? There is divided opinion on certain songs and whether it should have been a trilogy but on the whole I think these albums are more popular with the superfans than the casual fans only because the casual fans didn't get the chance to get to know them. Too much material in too short a time and little promotion. I think also because the superfans were first exposed to Foxboro Hot Tubs they were predisposed to accept and love Green Day playing garage/power pop music. I love power pop so this was right up my alley. I think the trilogy really rewards repeat listening I've played them more recently than any other albums I never grow tired of it. Personally I would like to see them try this again and release another power pop album done right, a tighter single record with a thrashier sound like they're doing with the current remixes.

We already have a topic for the trilogy, so I've moved your post into it. In future, it's worth using the search bar at the top right to check if a thread already exists for a certain topic. I definitely agree with you that the Trilogy albums are underrated - I love Dos. If they were done slightly differently, they could have been some of Green Day's best. The Grohl
I was listening to a bunch of trilogy songs recently and I forgot how much I like them. Yeah, some are throwaways, but others are just on point. And it makes me remember how excited I was when Uno finally released. While I don't think releasing them as three separate albums in a short span of time was a great idea, there is a lot of solid material to be found across all the records. Also, there's more experimentation here than in the past and it doesn't always work, but it's nice to hear.
Chin for a Day
I love the Trilogy. As others have said, there are some throwaways, but I think there are more that aren't throwaways. I love when they try different stuff. I also love Nightlife. It is fun. I honestly like the Trilogy far better than their older stuff. Which is why I wish they had done some Trilogy deep cuts instead of the old stuff yesterday.
emmericanidiot
I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of the trilogy but like a lot of people I just pick and choose the songs I like from each album and put them all together. I think certain songs had massive potential but the way it all happened seemed rushed and forced. There's a few songs (Troublemaker to name one) that I would turn off if they came on shuffle, but I enjoy a lot of them. It's mostly lyrics that bother me, there's a lot of unecessary 'fuck' in the entire thing and it gets to a point where it just feels like a filler and it's boring. But yknow, each to their own, I don't like a lot of 1039, it's cool to not be in the 'everything this band do is amazing' bubble sometimes
The Grohl
I actually really love "Troublemaker"
AmyxLongview
Some songs were great, but there weren't nearly enough great songs to constitute 3 albums in my opinion. It also wasn't super fun to be a fan during that era, at least for me. I was pretty disappointed when those albums came out, even though I grew to love some of the songs. The Trilogy era compared with the era we are in now is like night and day.
pouty bitch
I actually really like the trilogy, just not as much as most of their other albums. I actually prefer Dos to Dookie though. There are some songs that I don't think are very good, but there are also some songs that I absolutely love. Troublemaker, Kill the DJ, Lady Cobra, Baby Eyes, Makeout Party, Brutal Love, Missing You, X-Kid and Walk Away are all great songs, IMO. And I really like Nightlife. I actually listened to the trilogy all the way through a couple nights ago, and it was great fun.

That's hardly why people hate it. I think hate is probably too strong of a word anyway in most cases. I don't dislike the trilogy because it's "cool to hate it," I dislike the trilogy as a whole for a variety of subjective reasons — too many songs released too quickly, without enough high-quality songs to justify that decision; the production isn't a sound I enjoy; I don't connect to the songs nearly as much as their other material, etc. — but that doesn't mean there aren't some songs I enjoy. I would really like to hear some trilogy songs played live, or some songs produced in a different way, similar to Revolution Radio's sound. But me being realistic and honest about the quality of most of the songs doesn't mean I hate the project as a whole. I just think it was a bad decision in the end to go forward with it the way they did.
Stewe
For me the trilogy are just like a moment in my life that´s good when it happened, but when it ended it feel bittersweet. As much as I like some trilogy songs, I can't listen without thinking those moments

Q-Man
The Trilogy is massively underrated. I hope that at some point they start playing some of these songs again. I know they played Nuclear Family once on the first leg of the US tour but it would be great to see at least one or two songs get a permanent or at least semi-permanent spot on the setlist. When I saw them on the 99 Revolutions tour I thought that most of the Trilogy songs they played translated really well live. The one exception to this surprisingly I thought was X-Kid. It is one of my all time favorite Green Day songs but for some reason I just didn't think it connected very well live. Could have been due to most of the crowd being extremely lifeless during it though. Brutal Love definitely needs to be played live more. Still looking forward to more of those remixes that Billie talked about a while back when they released the Fell For You Otis mix.
Meliciraptor
As I've mentioned a few times in other threads (cause I can't point it out often enough ), I looooove the trilogy so much! Stop when the red lights flash, Fell for you (the new mix), Nuclear Family, Stay the night, Makeout Party, Brutal Love, Stray Heart, etc. are amongst my fav GD songs ever! Unfortunately I missed the "99 Revolutions" Tour, so I've never seen any of the trilogy songs played live which is the reason I cry myself to sleep every night. 3

1039Revolutions
You have to be a certain type of fan to understand the trilogy and what it meant. Uno is like the choice between life or death, choosing life, Celebrating it, and wanting to destroy anyone that wants to shut down your party with negativity or reality. Dos is starting to realize the only people you're surrounded by are losers, druggies and sluts and then Tre is realizing you're the only one left in the room partying and it makes you happy because you're not like them anyway. It's some Masonic shit once you real delve into the lyrics. Edited September 6, 2017 by 1039Revolutions

Hermione
If the Lady Cobra character on Dos is a "slut" then so is Billie's character. They're an even match, both after the same thing.
