I compare the two. How is that irritating. I got that "Oh shit GD is back" feeling when they released Oh Love. I didn't get the same feeling with Bang Bang. So if you want me to shut up you make sure that the next single will be better.

I don't mind comparing. I don't even care whether you hate the song or not. But when you post on 3 or 4 other threads restating that you don't like it, it just gets annoying. We get it!

It feels like you're purposely trolling

I think the best 'moment' of the trilogy is the Stay The Night bridge.. Even after 4 years, it still takes me WAY up lol. I can feel Billie was as high as the stratosphere when he wrote/recorded that. The melodies in the guitar work is just ridiculous.. It's as sugar sweet as pop/punk rock gets in my opinion.

Exactly. In early interviews pre-trilogy release I remember the guys saying they were aiming for a "live-like sound", and, to me, stay the night fits perfectly in that description (most of the other songs on the trilogy don't though)

Stay The Night and Brutal Love are the two highlights for the trilogy for me

dunno if he was high but it was written during the Breakdown era (they did a sound check of it during a 2009/2010 concert)

I don't necessarily mean high on drugs (but probably) lol.. More so just high on celebrating his life and taking in his accomplishments.. That's the vibe I get from a lot of the trilogy. 2009/2010 would make sense.. He seemed to be pretty proud of AI becoming a musical, let alone a massive hit.

Sometimes I think that I should start eating popcorn while reading this thread...

I'm curiuos what happened with Olivia and Dreamcatcher. I'm wondering if they have even considered them as Trilogy tracks or b-sides.

I think the at the time the trilogy came out people didn't really know what exaclt they wanted from the band. They loved AI and 21CB, but they also wanted Dookie 2.0. Neither of these would be appropriate, I think, and they felt like they should top themselves once again by doing something ambitious and new. Some of it is spontaneous and gorgeous, some of it was extremely forced for the sake of being grand a third time in a row

Still, I never heard from anyone on here who preferred the Trilogy to all others.    Is there anyone?

I can't claim to go that far, but it is one of my favourites along with Nimrod, 21st CB, American Idiot and Dookie. It sometimes has a turn as my favourite :P

About the concept album discussion that was in another thread, I do think of it as somewhat of a concept album because it tells a vague story of living the party lifestyle and the consequences of it over three stages/albums. It's not a concept in the same sense as a rock opera but there is something there that makes it not just a standard set of albums. Even if the whole thing isn't I definitely think Dos is, a proper little story there with Uno really only being an intro and Tre the aftermath as far as the story aspect goes. Depends on how you define a concept album though I suppose.

I agree, I felt in love with the three records when they came out, most of the tracks have been an amazing soundtrack of my life for at least two years, and those songs played live gave me very positive feelings during the last tour. I have to admit that in the last one/two years I generally preferred to relisten other GD records than the Trilogy, but I still think it is a very good project, many times mistreated.

I remember seeing Dreamcatcher on a board of songs on the Cuatro DVD so for a bit it was considered last I heard the play that Billie wrote songs for Three Paper Hearts or whatever it was called had Dreamcatcher

Not to mention, that video has the best like/dislike ratio I have ever seen on YouTube--1098:1 (excluding barely-seen videos with zero dislikes).

I'm a longtime fan, (Dookie on cassette, 1994) and I love the Trilogy.  When Green Day has released an album, post Dookie, it's usually something new, and different. (Kinda reminds me of when Warning came out, and the mainstream flipped their shit) Besides the blatant trying to capture lightning in a bottle a second time (21st copying AI) every GD album is vastly different than the last.  I remember this board around the release of Uno, everyone was in love.  (Yes, opinions change, and blah blah blah, but still, the hype was real.)  I think there were too many people expecting the next AI (not necessarily die hard fans like on this board, but the general public), and the Trilogy could not possibly live up to that.  It was Green Day, fucking around, having fun.  Poor single choice, (Oh Love is one of my least favorite GD songs, and a horrible lead single), dead marketing due to iHeart (which was stupid, I thought it was pretty fucking great what he did), and too many songs to digest in a short period (kids now days have short attention spans, and can barely handle an entire record, let alone three) killed the sales.

Sales don't mean shit to me though, so lets talk music.  (Sorry, I stopped coming to this site shorty after Dos was released, so I haven't seen the "many" discussions on the Trilogy) For reference, I'll rank my favorite GD albums, best to least favorite.

1. Insomniac

2. Kerplunk

3. Nimrod

4. American Idiot

5. Dookie

6. Warning

7. Dos

8. 39 Smooth

9. Uno

10. 21st Century Breakdown

11. Tre

Yes, the three albums rank pretty low on my list, Tre being my least favorite Green Day album, but they are still pretty damn good, Dos being my favorite of the three.  The music on that album is amazing, and way underrated.  It's just a fun record.  Lady Cobra, Makeout Party, Wow! That's Loud, Stray Heart.  The lyrics are cheesy, but that's kinda what they were going for?  I'm not sure why so many people missed that point.  Uno is damn good except for Oh Love.  So many great pop punk tunes on that one. Tre has too many missteps for my liking.  I'm not a fan of Brutal Love, 99 Revolutions, and a handful of others on that one.

Uno and Dos felt tight, focused, concise, flowing throughout, each with a general theme and fill, whereas Tre felt jumbled up, more like left overs, random songs thrown together at the end.  There are some great songs on that record, X-Kid, Dirty Rotten Bastards, 8th Ave., but overall, I just didn't care for it.

I disagree that it was too much though.  I still play all three of those records, and have a blast with them.  If you think you can pick and choose a shorter track list with the best, than by all means, go make a playlist.  Again, I'm old, and much prefer an album as a whole piece, and having three GD albums drop in quick succession was amazing.

I'm excited for Revolution Radio though.  Bang Bang is fucking amazing, and can't wait to hear the rest.

tldr: The Trilogy kicks ass, suck it. :)

This made me chuckle. I'm a little perturbed as to why you'd write a love letter for the trilogy, then rank the albums with all of the trilogy albums in your bottom half (including two in your bottom three). I guess you really love all the Green Day albums lol 🙃

True, but I read so many negative things about them in this thread, that I had to write a love letter!  They are low on my list, but my list only had Green Day albums in them, which rank higher than most other bands.  My friend and I hold a yearly Music Awards Ceremony called the CAPMMAs (Cowboy and Punk's Music Music Awards) (Those are our nicknames) where we vote on on favorite songs, album, opening track, closing track, album art, etc..  Basically sometime in December, we get together, get drunk, and listen to music.  We were talking about the new Blink, and how it was a contender for album of the year, that was before Bang Bang came out.  Now, Blink doesn't stand a chance, lol.  Point being, Green Day is some high quality shit, even the Trilogy.  (That was a rough year for the CAPMMA's,  having to choose between three GD albums!)  And hey, I rank Uno and Dos higher than 21st!

Holy shit, I just realized that was my first post.  I joined in 2009, and never posted.  Talk about lurking, lol!

California was a comeback for them.  I love me some Skiba.  Mind you, that was before the Bouncing Souls and the Descendents came out.  It was more of a it was the only good thing so far this year.  I'm stoked for the new Menzingers though.  That first single is the shit.  And there is a no NoFx coming out.... on Oct. 7th.  LMAO
