Well all I'm going to say is I like "Nightlife" and always have. I wish they would bring Mystic Knights of the Cobra out on tour. It's hard to find anything about them and I'd like to see them live.

Trilogy talk

Green day Should have done 1 green day 15 track album
And a second foxboro hot tubs album

Green day album (12 track)

Nuclear family
Stay the night
99 revolutions
X kid
8th avenue serenade
Rusty James
Let yourself go
Lazy bones
Missing you
Sex drugs & violence
Dirty rotten bastards
Brutal love
(Hidden track: AMY)

Foxboro hot tubs album (10)

Stop when the red lights flash
Lady cobra
Kill the DJ
Fuck time
Makeout party
Stray heart
Ashley
Little boy named train
Baby eyes
Wow, that's loud!

This is exactly what I thought, and our lists are almost identical. However, for the Green Day Id switch 8th Ave, Lazy Bones and Brutal love with Oh Love, The Forgotten and Carpe Diem. For the Foxboro Album, I'd switch Baby Eyes and Ashley with Amanda, Wild One, Troublemaker and Fell for you (12 songs a piece) 🙂

Troublemaker is probably the most foxboro hot tubby song in the trilogy imo

The songs that didn't do much for me, and id probably take of the trilogy if I could are:

Loss Of Control

Angel Blue

See You Tonight

Ashley

Baby Eyes

Nightlife

Amy

Drama Queen

Walk Away

The other 28 songs would have been a dream double album, or amazing separate Green Day and Foxboro albums.

I'd put these songs into a 2nd foxboro hot tubs album (Not neccessarily that order)

Troublemaker
Fuck Time
Stop When the Red Lights Flash
Makeout Party
Stray Heart
Ashley
Lady Cobra
Wow! That’s Loud
Kill the DJ
Highway 1

If you're going to make a double album, you may as well just say "fuck it" and release a triple album like they did.

There's really no point on saying stuff like "They should've released a single album with these songs", they did what they have to and I'm glad.

Some bits should be taken seriously.  Others (troublemaker, half of dos etc.) I think were intended to be less serious.  Those are the bits that really suffered from the lack of promotion because nobody knew what to make of them and so took them at face value a bit too much.

Agree with your above comment about Nightlife — it is a fun song, and I like it. It has a cool beat.

That said, I feel like given the state of the band at that time, it's hard to say what was intended to be less serious. All we got was that Uno was before the party, Dos was the party, and Tre was after the party. I mean, maybe they were joking with a lot of Dos, but it felt rather...heavy? Sure it was "fun," but it was serious fun, not joking fun. If that makes any sense.

I mean who knows—it's hard to look at the albums without a very particular, dark lens. Lazy Bones, Ashley, and Amy are flat-out dark (and I love all three), but then there are ones like Fuck Time, Makeout Party, and Wow That's Loud that feel to me like they're reaching back toward their youth in an uncomfortable way. None of them really feel lighthearted to me, and Green Day has had plenty of funny songs in the past. I could be wrong, just my two sense.

I remember when I first heard Wild One I wasn't paying attention to the tracks continuing and ending and I thought they were the same song. Happy they're not, I like Lazy Bones way more.

I wouldv've totally been into it if they did it this way and agree with the list. Too many songs and overdone songs on the Trilogy.

Yeah, "Lazy Bones" is one of my favorites. I wish they would have played it live more.

Yeah, I agree with you here. I'd rather have too much than too little- we can all put together our top 10/15/20/ whatever playlists from the Trilogy and enjoy at our leisure. I was and still am stoked we had 37 new songs to pick and choose through. The fact that it was a commercial disappointment was a bummer I guess (although I liked it during the tour since it kind of culled out some of the casual fans and I was able to get awesome tickets for three shows), but at the end of the day we got the albums plus Demolicious. Tons of new material to experience and enjoy during the last 4 years. Not a bad outcome compared to what fans of some other bands experience.

American Idiot is an evolution of the same sound that the band have been using since Dookie. The only albums that sound different are (in my opinion) the first two (because they only had some very basic gear, otherwise it's the same style), Warning (same guitars but less distortion) and the Trilogy.

Signature Green Day sound to me is melodic, loud, crunchy guitars, Tre's badass drumming, Billie's vocals and Mike's bass and backing vocals.

The majority of the albums had this sound and that includes American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, which just added to the sound with more instruments and open minded song structures.

Yes, Mike's bass playing isn't as crazy as it used to be but that (again, in my opinion) was not what made the band's signature sound. I do hope it makes a return to some degree on the new album though.

TLDR?

While I understand that you seem to have a hatred for the things that other people treasure, the truth is that there is no such thing as a bad Green Day album and I think most would agree that the signature sound makes up most of the records. This includes AI, 21CB and RevRad (from what we have heard so far.

To say you dislike this sound, is pretty much saying you dislike the band's sound. You really should give those albums more of a chance.

LOL. American Idiot or Know Your Enemy sound nothing like When I Come around.

To you that may be the case but to me its an evolved version of the same sound, the signature sound. Even KYE and When I Come Around have very similar song structure.

Green Day really havent changed all that much over the years besides the different themes the albums carry and have almost flawlessly pushed out one amazing album after another for their entire career. The same can't be said for most bands out there.

You are truly missing out on some of their greatest highlights if you dont give those albums a chance. Jesus of Suburbia for example is easily one of their best songs ever made and you are only losing out if you choose to be closed minded about it.

I'm a big fan of the trilogy.  Yes, it has problems (Nightlife) but it also has some of the best songs of GD's career (Sweet 16, X-Kid, 8th Ave Serenade, Lazy Bones).  And I realize I'm in the minority with Sweet 16 and I don't care.  Great fucking song.

I really love Sweet 16, too. It's so cute

Being a Green Day fan and not liking American Idiot it's like buying a burger and then you only eat the bread.

I agree with you. I mean, people are totally entitled to their opinions about music, obviously—it's so subjective and it's all a matter of taste. But for me, no one sounds like Green Day but Green Day. They have a very distinct sound, which is impressive given that they try so many different types of songs (Peacemaker, for instance, somehow sounds like Green Day even though it's so different for them). I've heard plenty of bands that are similar to one another, but that's never happened with Green Day. Listening to how that distinct sound has grown and developed over the years is something special. They know how to innovate.

I can't help but feel lucky that my favorite band—who became my favorite band because they created some of my favorite songs—CONTINUES to create new songs to add to my overall favorites list.

There are a couple bands that sound like GD though. Like Foxboro Hot Tubs and The Network. Sometimes it sounds like they're the exact same band

I like AI, but it's nowhere near their best work IMO.  Most ambitious?  Yes, but far from their best.  I'll take all of their pre-AI work every day over it.  Maybe it's because I grew up with Dookie and their older stuff.  AI doesn't measure up in comparison.

Must be the nostalgia factor kicking in, American Idiot is just a whole new level.

Yeah, I agree 100% and its the reason why they are my favorite band too. Their sound really speaks to me on an emotional level that no other band can reach.

People like to say that GD are completely different to what they used to be but when you compare the change to a band like Fall Out Boy and that they now just sound like every other pop artist out there, you really begin to appreciate how close to their roots Green Day have stuck over the years while evolving naturally.

You can't help but notice that Green Day seem to genuinely love what they do, unlike a lot of other bands who would completely change genres to make a quick buck and and as a fan I feel like one of the luckiest people alive to have such an awesome, genuine band in my life.

They really do feel like family to me.

I can't make my mind up about the trilogy.  Initially when it was released I loved it but overtime I thought I had accepted that it just wasn't the bands best work. But right know I'm drinking at home waiting for the McGregor Fight at UFC202 and have a playlist of green day songs playing while I wait. To my own amazement most of the songs are trilogy songs.

Maybe I just need some drink onboard to really appreciate them

I was thinking about all these lists about narrowing down the trllogy.  What if you had to narrow down the entire Green Day catalog into one great album?

I don't think I could do one album but maybe boil the 12 down to......I don't know.   I'll have to do some work on it.  I love every track from At the Library to Ordinary World but there are some I could do without.
