I'm a big fan of the trilogy.  Yes, it has problems (Nightlife) but it also has some of the best songs of GD's career (Sweet 16, X-Kid, 8th Ave Serenade, Lazy Bones).  And I realize I'm in the minority with Sweet 16 and I don't care.  Great fucking song.

Nightlife is great!

Sweet 16 is definitely one of my favorites from that album, and pretty overlooked. I really like the story behind it, describing going back to your roots, remembering sleeping on the floor in random places and people's houses. Billie mentioned in the Nobody Likes You book that that's all they did during 1029/kerplunk, while they were playing shows outside Rodeo. But that they also made a lot of lifelong friends doing that.

I agree. When I first heard it, I liked it because it was completely different. Plus, the bass in that song is badass. :toocool:

I'm fine with it outside of Lady Cobra.  Her "rapping" makes me cringe and ruins the song.

I can't remember the last time I actually listened to the Trilogy in full. I listen to a few songs here and there though.

I don't personally feel one way or another about her rapping, it's a part of the song. But, honestly everybody doesn't have to like rap. I tend to like it more if it's incorporated with other styles of music (like with "Nightlife", nu-metal bands, collaborations between rockers and rappers, etc...). But on it's own I don't really care for it. A lot of times for me it's about the tone of voice and lack of certain instruments I like. What I'm trying to say is rap is a selective taste and I don't feel anybody should feel ashamed for liking it or not liking it.

After being given so much shit for it being one of the only handful who like it here, I'll speak up for it like I have been.

As with the trilogy.

Some bits should be taken seriously.  Others (troublemaker, half of dos etc.) I think were intended to be less serious.  Those are the bits that really suffered from the lack of promotion because nobody knew what to make of them and so took them at face value a bit too much.

AI, 21CB "quality", ???,  ok

When you are talking about that signature Green Day sound no one will mention AI, like EVER. You can make sound super nice but it's the rawnes of their early records what Green Day is. Trilogy and its production fit great together.

American Idiot is an evolution of the same sound that the band have been using since Dookie. The only albums that sound different are (in my opinion) the first two (because they only had some very basic gear, otherwise it's the same style), Warning (same guitars but less distortion) and the Trilogy.

Signature Green Day sound to me is melodic, loud, crunchy guitars, Tre's badass drumming, Billie's vocals and Mike's bass and backing vocals.

The majority of the albums had this sound and that includes American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, which just added to the sound with more instruments and open minded song structures.

Yes, Mike's bass playing isn't as crazy as it used to be but that (again, in my opinion) was not what made the band's signature sound. I do hope it makes a return to some degree on the new album though.

TLDR?

While I understand that you seem to have a hatred for the things that other people treasure, the truth is that there is no such thing as a bad Green Day album and I think most would agree that the signature sound makes up most of the records. This includes AI, 21CB and RevRad (from what we have heard so far.

To say you dislike this sound, is pretty much saying you dislike the band's sound. You really should give those albums more of a chance.

Speaking up for it is fine, but telling people they should be ashamed for not liking it is not. All I can say is I've never given you shit for liking rap and if someone was in this thread and I saw it I'd be talking to them in disappointment right now. It goes both ways.

To me how to you talk to others is serious, I've been instilled with morals my whole damn life. I can only act on how I've been raised.

I'll quote myself from your status update:

"Dude, when he said "Shame you guys don't like it", he didn't mean people should be ashamed for not liking it. He just likes the song, and finds it unfortunate people don't feel the same way."

Okay, but the wording is confusing...

I just spend so much time on wording, editing and what not. I just assumed most people do.

Always been one of the best on the trilogy for me, it's a neat little song, one of the only ones where the production enhanced it. Would have loved to see it live or at least part of acoustic encore medley.

He knows people shouldn't be ashamed for disliking something he likes. He just finds it unfortunate, as he's probably in the minority when it comes to the community's opinion on Nightlife.
