Trilogy Discussion

I was just listening and going through some trilogy songs and gosh I like the melody, the lyrics. It's shame imo that it didn't get a bit more attention or interest in general. Time and place was kinda wrong, but I really hope guys will play some tunes during tour and bring it back from shadow.

Nuclear Family was written on that paper when they were jamming. I wish for more Trilogy songs too. DRB needs to be played live.

I don't understand the hate ¡Dos! gets. It's my favorite from the trilogy.

But we all know it's only because of Mike being on the cover lol

Judging by the RS article, it does seem like Billie has taken the criticism to heart. Interesting that he agrees that for some reason they did the opposite of that raw, loose sound that they wanted to achieve, also that he feels they were forcing out songs.

He also said that he would do it again.

I interpreted that as him starting to say "If I was going to do it again, I'd probably do it differently" but then changing his thought. He makes it clear that he still likes the songs and that it was fun to make. As a huge trilogy fan, I'm relieved to see Nuclear Family on the rehearsal list.

Trilogy was awesome!  However, Billie Joe has recently stated that they were forcing songs.  I love them all, but here are my choices for what I think were forced tracks:

Uno:  Troublemaker
Dos: See You Tonight, F(woo) Time, Make Out Party, Lady Cobra, Wow That's Loud
Tre:  A Little Boy Named Train, Amanda, Sex Drugs and Violence
This is my idea of what the Trilogy would have looked like had it been a double album instead:

1.     Nuclear Family
2.     Stay the Night
3.     Carpe Diem
4.     Let Yourself Go
5.     Kill the DJ
6.     Walk Away
7.     Ashley
8.     Fell For you
9.     Loss of Control
10.   Lazy Bones
11.   Angel Blue
12.   Sweet 16
13.   Rusty James
14.   Oh Love
15.   Amy
16.   Stay Heart
17.   Stop When the Red Lights Flash
18.   Baby Eyes
19.   Nightlife
20.   Brutal Love
21.   Missing You
22.   Wild One
23.   8th Avenue Serenade
24.   Drama Queen
25.   X-Kid
26.   Dirty Rotten Bastards
27.   99 Revolutions
28.   The Forgotten

Thank god you were wrong. You removed some of the best songs from the albums.

Well I don't think he forced Fuck Time since that was written before the trilogy for Foxboro Hot Tubs

The song wasn't forced but was tacked onto the trilogy as filler.

I don't really see how having 28 songs instead of 37 would make any difference. The trilogy wouldn't have been any more successful with those 9 songs removed. If anything, it'd just piss people off considering those songs are actually some people's favourite. If you don't like certain songs on the trilogy, you can just make your own playlist with your favourites

the trilogy is perfect as it is, a triple album. I love several songs and like most of the rest, for fuck's sake even Nightlife has a really enjoyable bass line I like.

I think songs like Angel Blue, Carpe Diem, Lazy Bones, Ashley, 8th Avenue Serenade are okay but for some people, they are their favourites so I would never wanted the trilogy to be shorter.

Btw.. Let's be honest here, guys.

GDC is full of shit sometimes, I remember I joined this site when UNO was about to get released and when all the albums leaked everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) loved the trilogy, people were even saying that TRÉ was one of their best works yet, the hype for the trilogy was fucking insane and I don't really get why suddenly everyone started to hate on it.

Hypocrites.

They hate us cause they ain't us :toocool:

I agree with you on Uno, the lyrics for Troublemaker are so awful that they have to have been forced.

Little Boy Named Train and Sex Drugs And Violence probably weren't forced though seeing as how they were already demoed before the album sessions. Wow That's Loud and Lady Cobra seem a little forced to me, but Amanda doesn't

That's not being hypocrites, that's opinions changing over time. Everyone liked it (or tried to like it) when it came out due to the hype and excitement of new Green Day albums. Then after a while, once the newness went away, people realized it wasn't that great. Except for Tre, which is a good album.

What confused me about the recent Rolling Stone interview is how Billie said that they almost got the point of forcing songs with the Trilogy. Didn't they claim it was the exact opposite when they were promoting it? If I remember correctly, they often said that it was a never-ending stream of inspiration that lead them to make and record all of those songs.

I don't recall them saying the opposite of that. But when you're promoting albums, you probably wouldn't want to say that you're forcing some of the songs on your albums. But I think if they didn't think the trilogy albums were ready, they shouldn't have released them until they were ready.

I think it's too much Tubish. I mean it would be good as another record by Foxboro Hot Tubs.

I don't care if Dos is Green Day record or FHT records as I like FHT. If the record sounds like The Network I would care. I'm glad Money Money 2020 is not signed as Green Day record.

Nah, it was too sudden, it didn't felt right.
