Trilogy Discussion

With an upcoming tour, does anyone think it's likely they will play any trilogy songs?  They didn't showcase them in 2012 when they played so is it possible those songs are destined to be ignored in the future?   If it came down to one song from the Trilogy I would want it to be X-Kid.  It was a single, so it wouldn't be too crazy for them to play it.

I think they will still play some songs or one... I hope they will play at least once DRB but I'm not sure if my expectations are not too high

I don't understand why they never played DRB live. That bass solo would be so sick live.

I thought I had read an article once where Billie said he didn't feel it was ready to play live.

I know you have said this before but for some reason I thought I saw a Jeff Matika show interview where it was said nobody would know it.

Could be both.  I'm not sure, I just know there was a reason

I could see them keeping 99 revolutions. I'm sure they'll drop it, but SWTRLF was awesome live.

Agreed. And yeah sadly I think 99 Revolutions is the only one that's particularly likely to stay. Hoping they'll keep doing Brutal Love before Good Riddance at least occasionally though.

Possibly. They kept Know Your Enemy also for the 99 Revolutions tour, though I very much preferred East Jesus Nowhere, 21CB (such a fantastic opener live) and Static Age (so much better with Jason Freeze on the sax). Brutal love should stay, together with Stay the Night, but I think it's going to be a squeeze for other Trilogy tracks. They'll almost certainly keep the same amount of Dookie songs/Good Riddance/Warning tracks/BOBD/AI/Holiday/KYE/21 Guns and some older Lookout-era tracks plus at least five songs off 12. Green Day sets are already long compared to those of some other bands.

I'd love to hear Brutal Love live! Not so much 99 Revolutions, that's the only song on the Trilogy that I actively dislike.

It would be so great if they also did 8th Ave. Serenade and X Kid, too.

I'd also love that! Especially 8th Ave Serenade, hidden gem of a song.

Agreed, 21CB is an amazing opener.

I guess we might get Brutal Love or X-Kid, but I don't think any of the Dos tracks will be played again outside of a FBHT gig.

I don't think Billie wants to perform X-Kid live due to personal reasons. Walk Away and Stay the Night are better bets IMO

A lot of people say that they don't like the lyrics of the trilogy because they're about sex (cringe) and they're flat... But I beg to differ.

I mean, wasn't that the point of the trilogy?, just making a bunch of fresh songs that are mostly just for fun because they were tired of making albums like AI and 21CB.

And it's not like they were senseless sex tension songs, like even the silly ones like Troublemaker and Fuck Time are so well made that it's just fun to listen and sing along to, I think that's pretty awesome, that they managed to make songs about fucking withouth being cringy and feeling like they were in a midlife crisis like tons of peole claim.

And even though the trilogy was all about just making fun songs, they managed to come up with songs like Brutal Love, Lazy Bones and X-Kid.

They performed X kid a lot during the 99 Rev tour

I think you may be thinking of lazy bones for the personal reasons as he said that is a hard song to listen to in the RS interview

Yeah what WhiteTim said. Besides BJ plays WMUWSE live and that's very personal

Stay the Night acoustic should be the new closer

Do you think it would be too much too do Good Riddance AND Stay the Night?   Everybody starts to leave after Good Riddance and then.....ONE MORE ENCORE!   Or the other way so people will know when to leave?

Have you guys listened to this? Sounds mental.

You can still play all the songs the same even in 1/2 down tuning. So I don't think it would have changed anything.

The whole thing sounds like Billie Joe is depressed singing those lyrics.
