Club shows and small shows can be considered practice I suppose.

Maybe, yes. But small shows all summer long with an album that came out in May? It doesn't look probable. Maybe they'll use that logic but releasing the album in August or so. So small shows at the end of the summer followed by release of the album followed by world tour.

The timeline got weird. The studio would never allow a summer release for a rock album, so two months between album and tour isn't happening. It could come out in September and the tour would quickly follow, but that means the albums isn't close to being done bc Warner isn't passing up a summer tour if the album could be out by April/May. I don't see an April/May release and then three months until a tour. Very confusing.

Why wouldn't they allow a summer release for a rock album? I've never heard of this but I'd love to know why. I thought they would just bring out albums whenever they're ready.

Yes, I think they might consider it practice.  Hopefully, because you are correct, the timeframe doesn't make sense for an April/May release.

This is pretty close to what I'm feeling inside right now, so I guess this'll do for the next hour and a half.

Like others have said, I'd consider Jason Freese to be a reliable [enough] source.
A single for RSD would be great.

It is not that they would not allow a summer release, but it is not optimum.  Usually people are on vacation or just doing things out doors, ball games, picnics, etc.  Most people are not thinking of a new album because there is so much more going on.  PLus, music wise, it is festival season and alot of attention is geared towards those.  So basically,  unless you are playing a ton of festivals, the album won't get as much immediate attention as it would at other times of the year.

Okay I see, thanks! :) I've just never realised that it was a thing to avoid a summer release.

I'm guessing Green Day's gonna drop a single without warning, similar to what they did with Let Yourself Go. It could be any day now, so brace yourselves every time you come on here :P

About a single on RSD, why do you think this? I'd asume that if they release a single they would want everybody to hear it and buy it.

I'm at school, so I haven't heard all the audio yet. It seems so random to just say what he said so randomly.  I'm not hyping myself up until there's an official announcement since the band has been so secretive lately. For now I won't be expecting anything until something drops or something is announced instead of endless speculation of release dates like the past 3 years.

Besed on everything we know, there are two options.

Release before summer

Let's take a look at 21stCB. According to wikipedia, studio work started in January (which is when we got obvious hints about studio work for revrad) and finished in April. We got a first single mid-April and the album mid-May. A tour kicked off in the summer, with dates announced at the end of April. They announced the album title in February, but Billie Joe mentioned before that he just wanted to drop the next album without much anticipation, so it's still possible that we'll just only hear official word about it weeks before release. In summary, this option is definitely still possible, although it's getting close and it'd be weird if they didn't start touring in the summer.

Release after summer

They finish up the album in the coming months, but we don't get it until september/october with a tour starting around the same time. We could get the first single whenever (Oh Love was released mid-July with Uno released Sept 21st, American Idiot (single) was released August 31st with the album released September 20). This is actually a very likely option, although a little bit less exciting for us restless fans. :)

Jason sounds legit. The statement is at around the 7 minute mark if you want to quick sneak your headphones in and listen!

It wasn't random.  It started with a talk about how he got started with GD.  Then the interviewer asked him what is he doing since GD isn't doing anything and that is when he gave the info.

I'm guessing World tour starting September means the promo tour will start in September. Normally they'd wait a month or so before the real tour dates start so people can have a bit of time to get familiar with the new album.

but to straight up drop information so important when least expected? I'm guessing he got confirmation from the band to do this ahead of time. It just seems kinda odd

Or maybe he thought it would be no problem because nobody was going to listen closely to one sentence inside an unknown radio show

This is exciting! Hopefully an official announcement is imminent. Some new music would be wonderful.

Desperately hoping for some UK dates this year. I really want my Green Day live fix.
