think 2009ish with U2.

It wasn't the Super Bowl, they played the re-opening of the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina

That wasn't the Super Bowl, it was the reopening of the Super Dome in 2006 after damage from Katrina.

U2 played the Superbowl in 2002.

Come on guys. Just because Green Day played in a football stadium a time or two doesn't mean they played the Superbowl half-time show :P

Sorry, I was raised the other way :P

To be fair, I don't care about either so it would make no difference to me if super bowl was a table tennis match :D

By the way, I think the LOTAG performance used to be on YouTube labeled as a super bowl halftime performance so that could be the reason of confusion.

NO!!!!!   The LOTAG performance was so much better than the Super Bowl.  They actually played at half-time of a Jets game!!!!   It was the proudest moment of my Jets fandom.

I can't really feel your pain because I know fuck all about football. I am sure that's what happened, though.

Well now that CA is having a "secret" Green Day show (as the chances are quite high)
We now need to have one in NY.

Can't wait til that happens :P

I've pretty much stopped caring about attending intimate Green Day shows because the one I went to was the shittiest experience I've ever had :P
I just want them to announce new tour dates already!!!

I'd prefer somewhere I could attend.

I mean, the reason I said this in addition to living here is cause, you know... they've had some here before, not to mention Billie owning a place here and all.

It'd be cool if they announce a tour soon so that way more people in many places can attend.
Hopefully they will, and soon.

Actually all the band members were personally banned from what I read though certainly in the case of Billie it was for a fairly brief period. I have no idea why Tre and Mike were banned but it was nothing to do with the band. Billie however was banned after Tre and Mike ...it was because he had been drinking in the toilets at a party he and Aaron Cometbus were at there. Also he was only banned for a brief period. Here is a quote from him from Gimme Something Better where he and Aaron discussed Gilman etc. Billie continued to play there with Pinhead Gunpowder and go to shows. Tre and Mike remained banned though but neither Billie or Aaron discussed that.

"I personally got 86’d after the fact. I think about three years later, Aaron (Cometbus) said, I went to a meeting and you’re not 86’d anymore." -Billie Joe Armstrong, Gimme Something Better.

So possibly 86 is Billie whining that he got kicked out for not following the basic rules but he dressed it up

Ah ok I just knew them not being able to perform was cause of the label thing

New York is the second most likely place for a secret show so I totally see what you mean :D

If I wasn't 3,000 miles away I would most definitely be there!

You use this excuse a lot.

Off topic but are all Super Bowl performances lip sync - I've never seen one & here lies my problem with gd doing it.

It is a valid excuse.  AT least I'm on the same continent.

I think alot most of them are lip synced.  The show is only about 10 minutes, and the acoustics can be terrible in a huge open stadium that is at capacity.  They don't have the time to set up proper acoustics.  They are also playing to an enormous audience, TV wise and lip syncing makes the show less error prone.  I really don't have a problem with lip syncing a 10 minute show that is designed to be an extravaganza.  I would have a huge problem with lip syncing an entire concert.  At a concert I like to hear real singing.  I actually like hearing the singers voice start to crack at the end of a show, it makes it more of a real experience for me.

However,  I swear The Who did not lip synced their half-time show, because my boy Roger sounded like shit.
