I assume Rob is doing it not because of the demos declaration but because he's the safe choice (by their view). Rob and the band are close enough to share demos, even if not working together. Although I wish Rob wouldn't produce this one because I feel he was too easy on them on the trilogy. But I don't want Butch either.

What about Andy Ernst? :P Don't know a shit about this guy though

Oh and talking about opening bands when Green Day played Sao Paulo they did have a local bands contest! So the opening act turned out to be... awful

i have no issue with opening bands

1) Hey, I like MCR :D

2) I don't have an issue with them either. I love most openers that I've seen. However, I would not have an issue if they were to decide to have none and just...play

I don't want anyone that told them "Yeah those 37 songs sound great you should definitely release everything"

Agreed, why do they even need an opening band? I've been to a couple of concerts that did not use them.  I saw Yes in Rochester in the late 80's and they just showed Looney Tune cartoons. I saw Paul McCartney in MSG in New York in the mid 2000's, and he had this really bizarre "show" with people dressed in strange carnival costumes walking silently amongst the crowd as his electronic "Fireman" album played louder and louder. Really weird, but interesting. Or Green Day should just come out and play with no opener...the crowd will be hype enough without one.

Yes they need someone who is willing to be honest and make them filter out the very best stuff, with the very best lyrics. But who would that person be?

Not Rob Cavallo as it seems. And I was so excited they started working with him again:dry:

Get that negativity out of here! Haha. I just listened to the entire Trilogy at work this morning and realized why I love it so much. I fell in love with it all over again.

I don't mind Rob, and nothing is confirmed, this is all just speculation, he may be working on this new album, but i think after the trilogy they should give someone else a shot. but then again maybe Rob realized he was too easy going on the trilogy and he wants a chance to step it up this time, i dunno. what albums has Rob produced since the trilogy? does he even produce much anymore now that he's chairman of warner brothers? Maybe that's why he heard the demos, not as a producer, but as head of the label, or also just as a close friend.

You must be the minority then :P Man it's so meh it hurts. Believe me I tried so much to like it. I even got the special boxset with quatro and paid like 20 euros for shipping in greece.

Anyway back to the new album now that's gonna kick ass!

I don't think anyone minds Rob, he has been a great producer, especially for GD.  However, he has been around them for 20 years and is very close to them.  I question whether he has the ability to be objective about the album.  When you are very close to someone, it gets hard to be truly objective.  We sometimes see or hear what we want to.   I would love to see someone else produce it, someone with less personal ties to them.

My hope is Billie Mike and Tre now actually listen to the trilogy and realize that this is not Green Day quality material and actually give it their all to make up for it and show they still have it. I just don't want them to go to Tom Delonge phase (somebody mentioned him in this or the other thread I'm not sure) and believe every music they crap is good.

Haha I know you're a Tom fan and i actually enjoy the dudes music even now(love his previous work of course) but i can't be subjective when it comes to him and the way he treated the whole situation and the comments he made after it made me dislike him even more :P

Not hating guys trilogy sucks it's a common fact like 10% of people who heard it consider it good work get over it. At least you can say you are the minority :P

Didn't Mike say something about people not liking the trilogy back in 2013 post-rehab? I'm really curious about what they would think about it.

But yeah, I really wish they would have that kind of critical view. I doubt though. Not that they think every music they crap is good, but they wanna crap whatever the crap they want to. :P

But now the crap that they want to crap will come from a different perspective.  I think it's going to be great!
