As for the artwork on the walls...everyone needs to reel it in a bit I'm sure given the sheer amount of ranting Billie has done on social media over the past year or more he will write SOMETHING about guns or gun violence in some manner on the new record (unless this album is a complete piss take like the trilogy) but if we freak out about every little detail we see in every photo for possibly months we'll all go mad. Think about it...we are analyzing the art on the walls and trying to decipher a hidden meaning from it about the album. A reminder that sometimes they just stick stuff on their walls that they like to look at

Hermione
I don't think it's the actual album artwork, I feel like they'd keep that or anything indicating what the artwork might look like too strongly under wraps. However maybe the pictures are there as some kind of inspiration for the album/feel of the album? They do also just look like the kind of pictures they'd find cool and want on their wall (badass women) but the way they're collected together it kind of looks like that. I also see no harm in speculating over this, we know they like to give secret hints so it's a bit of fun to try and guess if we've seen one even if there turns out to be nothing to it. As long as people don't start assuming things as fact and then being disappointed when they don't happen (eg Green Day mentioning that they were at the back to the basics stage of making a record while making no comment on what it would sound like = they promised us that the trilogy would be Dookie part 2) I see no problem, and I haven't seen anyone doing anything like that with the lighthearted speculations over photos and revrad etc.
Ross_19
I hope they don't post any more from the studio..... then hopefully that would mean they're finished. If all these rumours about April/May release turn out true, they're probably finished / nearly finished now anyway

To my knowledge, Billie, nor anyone associated with the band, has made any announcement that they have a new recording studio named Otis. All we have seen are instagram photos with that hashtag and an occasional T-shirt. For all we know, they could have renovated a studio in Jingletown and named it Otis, they could be borrowing a studio from someone, it could be the name of their favorite coffee shop, they could have a new studio or a myriad of other things. But, until an official announcement is made, saying they have a new studio is simply speculation.
Siddharth_471
This thread should be retitled "Green Day in which studio 2016?". I miss those times when posts were made related to the thread, now just see what we've got here - "the trilogy was terrible", "Nightlife is their worst song", "Come To Brazil!", "What is the colour of Billie's hair?" No originality at all.

There is nothing in that instagram that says it is for a new recording studio. It simply says that the printer printed some shirts for Billie Joe ARmstrong. OK, so the speculation can most definitely be legitimate, which I actually wasns't denying. But until the band officially announces it, I still call consider it speculation. My main point is don't call someone out for speculating, which is harmless fun, when pretty much everyone does it.
localinsomniac
I'm not criticizing anybody, was just pointing out that it's grounded in some kind of information and not simply idle speculation. Is that info unreliable? Possibly. I wouldn't be shocked if the guy was giving some bullshit story about this new recording studio just to send people into a tizzy, but I don't know why he would do that other than to troll people. That wouldn't be a great look when you're trying to run a legitimate business.

That wouldn't be a great look when you're trying to run a legitimate business. I wasn't criticizing you, sorry if I implied that. I wasn't really criticizing anyone, just discussing that I dont' think there is a harm in speculation. I didn't know that the screen printer had posted something in the comments. I absolutely agree with you that it would be foolish for him to print false information when he is running a business. So, I do conclude that the speculation of a new recording studio is probably accurate. I just don't see the harm in speculating on the new album, the new artwork, etc. It really is harmless fun. Plus, I am looking at it from another angle. So far, we have had pictures that are clearly from a studio, with some cryptic hashtags, #otis, #revrad. Now we are getting instagrams that are clearly created with a poster in the background with the girl with the gun, etc. I have been in marketing for a very long time and is pretty clear to me that this is social media marketing. They want us to speculate. They are trying to stir up interest in what the band is doing. So, I say lets help them out and speculate away.

auroraborealis
First time poster so go easy on me. If it is ok to further fuel the flames of TOTAL SPECULATION about Otis. Swmrs said in an interview they recorded their album in a tiny private studio connected to a record store that they hang out at all the time (Im thinking 1-2-3-4 Go! Records in Oakland) and they were the first band to ever record there. Could that be where Green Day recorded before moving to Jingletown??? and therefore the much speculated about Otis Studios?? Maddie86
i had an awful dream last night in the dream i was watching a commercial for the new green day album, and the whole time there was a hooded person in the background, this person was their new producer. I think the release date in the dream was sometime in June of this year, but that doesn't mean anything. So anyways, at the end of the video, the pull the hood off their new producer. It was Avril Lavigne. oof.

Welcome Awesome first post. As it happens it's very relevant as Swmrs posted many IG updates while recording and it's easy to see they were recording in the same studio Billie is now posting his photos from. Here's just one example. So thanks for your post. Everyone can now pretty much assume or "speculate" with more than enough evidence that GD are recording next to 1-2-3-4 Go! Maddie86
15 minutes ago, JJ1964 said: But mixing/mastering can take a couple of days to a months. You really can't tell by that. I would imagine they will not rush it, unless the record company gave them a timeframe. I can't recall any interviews with Chris Lord-Alge about mixing time frames, but I have a book with an interview with Jerry Finn, and he said that he spends 10 to 12 days to mix a record, sometimes less, sometimes more. he said he thinks they did dookie in 9 days and insomniac in 11. keep in mind though that those were more straight forward records, but at the same time, Jerry was young back then and didn't have as much experience, but then again there was a lot less digital equipment back then. so i feel like a seasoned pro like Chris Lord Alge (who i'm assuming is gunna mix the new album) could take a week or less to mix a new album, which i'm guessing will be more straightforward than the trilogy, AI, and 21st century. Mastering will probably just be a few days i assume they can press CDs pretty quick, but vinyl takes a while, but with a big profile band like green day i'm sure they will get a rush order in or something. Record Store Day is in April, so I'm wondering if they are considering a release for that.
