Green Day in the studio 2016

You have actually struck on a pet peeve of mine.  You have to remember, you are talking the music business.  It is, first and foremost, a business.  All the people involved, including the artists, are in it to make money and any artist that tells you differently is lying.  What bothers me is people that think this is bad.  There is no glory in not being successful.  It doesn't make you a better, or worse, musician to play in small clubs on independent records for the rest of your life.  I had to work very hard to get where I am at in my career.  I started at the bottom, just like almost everyone else does in their chosen career and had alot of people tell me what to do.  Why should it be any different in the music business?  I do realize that there is a creative aspect involved here and the artist would not want to do music that is dramatically different from their style.  But as far as what single to release, when to release, etc.   The record company actually knows that end of the business better than the artist does, at least at the beginning of a career.  An artist like GD would have more say in how their record is promoted, but they have earned that right.  I seriously doubt they started out with it.  As Tim has already said, in the end, it is the record companies money.

I've been reading Larry Livermores book.  I'm not finished with it yet.  However, there are many reasons that GD is the most successful band to come out of Lookout Records.  But, one of the things that stuck out at me, that alot of the other bands didn't do, was the fact that they listened to Larry.  He said how easy they were to work with.  They were young kids that didn't know the record business yet and they listened and learned.

I just don't get the "the music industry" is ruining music story.  The music industry is giving thousands of artists the ability to make a living at something they love to do and to have millions of people worldwide hear their music.  Why is it bad that they have to listen to the people that are paying them to do that.  Every other person in the world has too, why not them.

Agreed. The notion that musicians don't care about money and should be free to do what they want with no interference from the label is one which most people don't keep much past the age of 16 or 17. As you say, the real world just doesn't work like that. I don't doubt for one minute that Green Day love making music. But I also don't doubt that they love making money from it too. And I don't have a problem with that at all - my younger self would have probably found it a bitter pill to swallow though!

@JJ1964 I 100% agree with what you said. I'm not at all saying that the label is forcing them to do against their will but yes they are all under a limitation because ultimately everything is a deal being made and I do understand that music is not only their passion but their livelihood too.

No offense against music industry or labels.

My 13-year-old self would be furious, I have to agree, though. It's a job. A business. Of course they have to care about money.

Randomly found this photo of Tré using an "Otis" t-shirt during Oakland A's GD firework night.

Someone said a few pages back that Billie had some of those made.

Apparently he spent his birthday recording...

Also that's his black LP Jr. And the #revrad hashtag seems to be on that drawing in the back (the one with a gun)

That is the hash tag that is in the back.
That face though...

Feeding the rumors, is what Billie is doing on his birthday.

I think Metallica should return the favor with a birthday song for Billie Joe!   Remember?  Billie doing Hybrid Moments?   Metallica should do a cover of a band that Green Day covers sometimes.....how about Mahagany?

Whatever #revrad means I hope it's a sign they're going political again with this album. I don't care if this marks me as a fan who really got into Green Day during the American Idiot years (which I am) but I would die of happiness if they did another scorching political commentary sort of album.

Warner posted this

While it's nothing definite relating to an album it hints about looking forward to hearing what is next :D

He said that Billie (not the whole band) has only demoed those songs and yes it is possible they have been recording since then but no song is revealed to be successfully recorded in the studio.

How are all of these people suddenly having friends, or friends of friends, or parents of friends, who know all this stuff about Green Day and their recording process? Where were these people a few years ago to tell us that Green Day was making a trilogy?

We didn't need them because Green Day told us that themselves quite early on????

Billie Joe is just toying with us on his birthday,  just giving tiny clues about recording the new album behind a nice juicy handsome selfie....

Yeah, but we didn't know it was a three album set until way later on. It was more of a joke than anything haha

Revolution Radio as the title with that gun as the artwork would be solid. As long as the title isn't actually #revrad.

Whatever it means I think "Revred" (without the #) would actually sound cool as the final record title. I love their single word-weird titles.

(there's also a flyer from Alpacino's Dog Day Afternoon behind him...)

Going with the #revrad speculation... maybe it means Revolver Radicals?

I think this is the best guess by now

Billie did use front-facing camera and this is a mirror effect

2004: an American election with a controversial right-wing candidate and Green Day releases American Idiot

2016: an American election with a controversial right-wing candidate and Green Day releases ?????

Couldn't help but notice the similarity :P

what about that Dookie tribute that happens today? Green Day (not just billie, but the entire band) is set to be there and I really doubt they would only seat there and watch. IF they go onstage, maybe we can hear some news about the new album. will anyone from the forum attend this tribute?
