I do hope it comes out on April 17th, thats my birthday!! My birthday last year was filled with Green Day at the House of Blues and watching them get inducted, but a new album coming out on my birthday may top that! :ga:

We all appreciate the rumors, but unless you're Billie Joe, Mike, or Tre, it's all still just a rumor. That's true even when I share something. Third and fourth hand information is nice, but it's not always worth betting the house on.

I think it is safe to say that even if they say it, it will still be rumour. I would say until the record company says something its rumour.

damn, why didn't i think to check this out before.... they are totally at jingletown right now in studio C. That's a Trident Mixing Board and according to Jingletown's website that's what they have in studio C, there's even a pic on there...

http://www.jtrecording.com/studio-c/#startGallery

oh shit, now i'm even more excited because Studio C is the only part of Jingletown that has a tape recorder! Maybe they recorded to tape at this Otis place and now they took the tape to mix it at Jingletown.

The picture of the Trident Series 80B I believe is the same console Billie uses in his OTIS studio... Reference: SWMRS instagram (a little further back)... With that being said. Whats stopping us from believing that Green Day may in fact end up recording their whole album at OTIS?

Keep in mind I know nothing about the recording process, if there is a fault in my theory let me know...

Billie said in an interview with Billboard in April of 2015 (or May, can't remember) that they had 4 or 5 songs but wanted to take it slow, making sure every song was inspired. Maybe they have been recording them along the way in their own studio. What is wrong with an entire album recorded in a home studio? They definitely have the money to afford any equipment they might need to make it sound how they want it to sound.

"According to NME, the band's long time producer Rob Cavallos had stated in April of last year that the band had previously returned to the studio and had successfully recorded five new tracks. "Let me tell you, they were just fantastic. He is absolutely at the top of his game," Cavallo commented in reference to Armstrong."  Source: http://www.musictimes.com/articles/62397/20160119/green-day-billie-joe-armstrong-posts-studio-photo-hinting-new-music-album.htm

Im not sure on the validity of that statement, however it falls in the same time-frame as Billie's comments to billboard.  It's very possible that the band has already been recording for over a year.

He said that Billie (not the whole band) has only demoed those songs and yes it is possible they have been recording since then but no song is revealed to be successfully recorded in the studio.

If you were quoting him, he would have said "April 1st" - LIAR!

Since everything surrounding the new album has been kept under-wraps (as far as we know), I really hope we get a "making of" documentary that explains the process and takes us inside the studio and the band's frame of mind.  Sure, some of it will come out in promotion interviews, and maybe an in-studio magazine article (I'm looking at you David Fricke), but I'd kind of like to know about the recording sessions, how long they've been recording, etc in video and audio form.

It was real weird I walked into his recording space and all that was in there was a poster of a cat singing "Rock the Cat box" and this...

Definitely going back to their roots!

I hope so too,  I would love to see the process, from Billie's rough draft handwritten hyrics to demoing, tracking, mixing..everything.

Doubt they had been recording for most of the last year... Tré and mike made sure to update us of all the trips they've done around the world on Instagram

I agree, however they still could have worked in multiple sessions over such a long period.

Here's my prediction:

I think the album announcement will be anywhere between 1-14 days prior to release.  I think they are going to pull a Rihanna/Kanye/Jay Z and just announce/release in a very short window.  I think after the long build up they had with the trilogy, in conjunction with the poor sales, they aren't going to attempt that again.

Think about it; would you have been more excited to have heard the announcement of the trilogy, followed by the release of Uno in 24 hours or so, rather than announcing the trilogy and getting songs leaked over the course of a few months?  I think the former is going to be the future of album releases.  And in Uno's case, it probably would have increased sales since Oh Love was so poorly received.

I would like this approach.

However, I'd like to point out that every album they've released in the past 20 years have had several months of lead-up. So, I find it hard to get away from a lead time simply because the trilogy had poor sales, which is the album that happened to have the longest lead time.

I would love to see them drop a surprise album on people, simply for the press it would generate.

But they have already dropped a few clues indicating that they may be recording. Did Beyoncé's hardcore fans even know that she was working on something? The cat is already halfway out of the bag here. Media has already picked up on it, so you have to wonder how many people will be really surprised if they were to keep the announcement hush-hush until a week or two before release.

Bey's album was not known about until she announced it people knew she was recording but had no idea when it would come out

I realize this, however I think that is the outdated way of doing things and it has not proved successful for Green Day as of late.  My gut tells me they are going to announce and release in a very short window, possibly even at the same time.  We shall see.

but thats not Green Day's decision that's Warners and they haven't really done that route

It's just my assumption, wouldn't it be understandable if Warner wanted to try a different strategy with Green Day since last time they failed? Maybe they want as much "surprise-value" as possible. I don't think this is less unlikely just because it would be the first time.

There's a first for everything, and if they're watching current music business trends (and I am sure they are), they'll realize this is the way to go to capitalize on the peak excitement of a new album, especially from casual fans who would be more likely to jump on a surprise release than purchase it months down the road.

To be fair it failed cause there was no band to promote the albums people may not like this response but Billie's rehab is the majority cause of the lack of promo and sales (not that Billie should've avoided the rehab and such his health is a lot more important than ANY album)
