How far ahead of a tour does the band typically announce dates? I believe the trilogy tour was announced in the fall, pre-rehab, so maybe August...? And that was set to start in December or January?

As I posted above: usually 4 to 6 months ahead. I saw them in August and September 2012, these two concerts were announced in March 2012, so about 5 months ahead. The Vienna show in May 2013 where they played Dookie was announced in December 2012.

It's different for festivals though, ofcourse. Because they have special contracts and it can be something crazy as a year ahead or 2 days ahead.  And small club and secret shows are unpredictable anyways!

One thing I wonder is that if the album is coming in about 2-3 months why didn't we get to see the album title, track list, cover art or even an official announcement till now?

Look at 21st Century Breakdown. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/21st_Century_Breakdown

Wasn't the trilogy tour announced 2.5 months before it began, with tickets going on sale a week or two later?

Looking at what they have done in the past for promotions and timeframes really doesn't mean anything.  They can make announcements and do promotions based on whatever they think is appropriate.

Yeah sure. On the other hand it'd be pretty dumb to announce a huge open air tour just 2 weeks in advance

That is funny, I was thinking the same thing.  I figured I can get from Boston to Philadelphia and everything in between.  It's just convincing hubby I need to travel all over the east coast for multiple concerts from the same band.  That may be the hard part.

As I've been saying since the 21st Century Breakdown Tour, I plan on going to every (or as many as possible) UK shows! Especially now I can drive myself to them!

I was planning on doing something similar :ninja:

No one is saying they are going to announce a tour 2 weeks in advance but you are trying to say that because the 21CB tour was 4 to 6 months so this has to be 4 to 6 months.  That is just not true.  They can announce in any timeframes they want, even 2 weeks if they choose.  What they did in the past has no bearing on what they will do in the future.

Because I bought a flight last year to go to nifucked I changed it to San Fancisco for June this year, but if they announce any show for America before the end of June I can change it again and go to a Green Day show instead and that would be pretty cool

Heeyyy

As I've said before, doing shows in the US&Canada and Europe around the release of the album is what seems more likely to me. I don't think it has so much to do with how much time in advance they announce the shows (unless it's 3 weeks, of course) than with the relation of time between release of the album and shows. 21st CB was released in May and look at the dates: http://www.greendayauthority.com/tour/2009/ It probably won't be such an extensive tour, but May - end of the year is what looks probable to me. For the trilogy they were starting to do the same (Uno was released in September, so August and September they toured US and Europe, until iHeart happened) http://www.greendayauthority.com/tour/2012/ Then of course if the album is successful and they're doing well they could keep on touring in 2017 (far away countries, playing stadiums in the summer...) That's my guess. In the past I've always had good luck guessing, trust me! haha I might have even planned leaving September 2016 to January 2017 with nothing to do in life years in advance because of my guessing  :ninja:

Yes I get your point, I didn't say it wasn't true what you said. Of course they could do anything. I only pointed out what's more likely and logical in terms of selling tickets. I didn't say they will a 100% do it the same. I said it was the usual thing they do and that I expect them to do it similar this time. Not that they will, just that it is likely.

The question is are green day still an open arena headlining tour band? I mean their popularity has been getting down since 2009. I know they played Emirates and other stadiums in the last tour just thinking are they still that big if that album flops too?

And i dont mean headlining festivals. Blink can headline reading too. I'm talking about headlining world arena tour.

That's a good question, though their last headlining club tour was for nimrod. That doesn't include secret shows or anything like that. They been doing arenas and amphitheaters since 2001. I'm willing to bet they still have enough clout to fill hockey arenas and shit like that.

Yeah, I think they'll still fill arenas as long as the album doesn't totally flop. Not sure about stadiums but I'd guess they can still fill up the 10-20,000 capacity places.

Maybe this means they'll finally come back to Nottingham :woot: our arena was "too small" for them on the last few tours but now there is hope.

omg i was so unprepared for this, i always get so anxious when they start doing things :runaround:

weren't they going to do a tour playing theaters when the trilogy came out? i'm hoping they do something like that again.

My only wish is that they don't, again, leave out South America. But I guess they only did the last time because of all the rehab stuff... I always wanted to see them playing Rock In Rio!

And I think the only place they can currently fill up stadiums is in England.

Were they? I think they were going to do some small club shows along the arenas, but after rehab they ended up doing only arenas. I may be wrong though.

I wouldn't mind if they toured clubs. I'd prefer it actually.

I have the impression that we're the only people in the world on this hypetrain. Not even fans on Tumblr don't talk about this. We're like mad scientists at this point.

Revolution Radio sounds cool for an album title though

Before 21st CB someone came here to post that they had inside info that the new album would be called "Hillside Dance", they were adamant about it. People made mock Hillside Dance album covers and everything. This totally just reminded me of it

Yeah I mean they made and released Stop Drop and Roll without anyone knowing anything at all, it was a complete surprise. As far as how far in advance they tell us stuff the possibilties are endless.

Wasn't the trilogy originally supposed to be an album called "Nuclear Family" too? :P

You're right about the Tumblr thing.

I hardly see any of the big Green Day blogs talk about it at all and it's weird since first of all, it's Tumblr, and second of all, usually new albums get all this hype on it on there. I was in on the Tumblr hype for P!ATD, TOP and even Muse, but nothing's going on in terms of the Green Day Tumblr hype.

Not sure if someone's already mentioned it but #revrad could also stand for "revolution radical" or something like that, meaning they're gonna change their style or come up with something totally new. I know it sounds clumsy in English (#radrev would've been better), but it could easily be Spanish "revolucción radical" or French "révolution radical". They're used to Spanish album titles after all :P
