Is that mixing board from trident studios?  That is where a lot of the classic British rock bands recorded

They send it off to a professional, usually Chris lorde algae.

Chris Lord-Alge doesn't master songs, he just mixes them. Usually Ted Jensen from Sterling Sound does the mastering.

Yes! That black thingy at the very top of the photo has "Trident, London England" written on it.

Well it's not based on my hopes, so nothing to dash here :D it was just an idea based on what my friend said. He thought it would be unusual to do something with this kind of equipment in the stages before mixing.

Your friend doesn't have the slightest clue what he's talking about...

Green day doesn't, and has never, mastered their own music. They send it off to a professional, usually Chris lorde algae. The small box is a multitrack recorder, which has nothing to do with mastering. Sorry to dash your hopes, but it's the truth!

CLA is a mixer. Ted Jensen does the mastering for the band.

Hopefully they're almost done and will announce something soon! I don't think they would post so many photos and get fans excited if they weren't close to completion.

that photo makes me think they're still in the tracking phase. It's a 4 track cassette porta-studio, mostly used by small bands for home demos... back in the 80s and 90s. i have one of my own and have recorded demos on them. in green day's case its most likely being used for an effect during tracking because the thing about those tape machines is that they never playback at the same exact speed, and also as far as i know i don't think green day is involved in the mixing process for their albums, like someone said before, chris lord-alge does that. also, i'm drunk right now, i'll try to make more sense of this tomorrow haha

Room 17, recording console

That studio is located in Brooklyn, NY. It was made in England but Brooklyn Studio had purchased it and restored it. They took a bow for the classic facilities :D

I'm very far from arrogant or condescending

I'd leave out personal attacks tho...

My boyfriend has a small studio and he's saying that they could be doing takes on the master, but also they could be trying effects at any stage of the recording process, which seems more likely given some of you are saying that they send the tracks to other people for mixing and mastering. So basically... they could be at any point! This is what I gathered of what the most probable stage is from the comments above:

The small box is either a 16 or 32 track recorder. Could be they're experimenting with a lo-fi sound? It might even be just the demo stage,

Or, mixing or mastering if this time for some reason they decided to do it in the same studio.

But not very inspiring... =/ Although this doesn't have to tell how long they are going to take, because sometimes they have gone into the studio with everything almost ready, just to record, and other times they've made the album in the studio, and we don't have that information at the moment so... who knows.
