Green Day in the studio 2016

I calmed myself down when I found out that will.i.am has collaboreted and recorded with U2, Sting, Carlos Santana, Rolling Stones and Sting. Most of his collaborations are literally full of sh.t (Nicki Minaj, Bieber), which is not the least connected with bands such as Green Day. I'll stab myself if they record sth like Nightlife once more. But he's worked with several true artists, i hope we don't have to be afraid :D

I don't know what I would do if they collaborated with will.i.am.  Probably cry tears of joy.  That would just be amazingly cool.

And why am I the first person to notice how hot Billie looks in that picture??

I really wouldn't read into that picture as an album indication, Will.i.am also posed in a picture with Ricky Wilson of the Kaiser Chiefs hours before he did with Billie and is going to be busy with the Voice UK anyway so really won't be going anywhere with that.

My first reaction was NO PLEASE NOO but actually it could be pretty cool. I'd prefer if they collaborated with somebody else because I'm not into Will.i.am and BEP. I'm not against it but not excited either.

I just assumed they'd run into each other when I saw the pic. Billie looks like an excited fan :P but then I know next to nothing about this guy so.

Cee Lo was busy with The Voice while recording a solo album and a group album and filming a movie

sure he can do multiple things at once, seeing as will.i.am is like the busiest man in music, but it looked to be a chance enciunter seeing as a similar picture showed up on ricky wilsons instagram also

Yeah most likely was just in the same spot at same time

OR maybe he has nothing at all to do with the album and just ran into Billie somewhere.

Can't believe it took that long for a voice of reason to chime in on this topic :P

I must admit my first thought was oh no Will.i.am is a producer.

Right...and mine was what was that Billie said about destroying the phrase pop punk forever? An album that sounds like a revamped Nightlife 2.0 would achieve that for sure.

As painful as it may be, if someone were to ask Will I Am if he's producing Green Day's new album he would probably answer with "I tried, but my Grammy nominated Auto-Tune machine just didn't fit through their studio entrance."

But Will I Am is a cool guy though

Yeah this is most likely . If they did collaborate I'd be glad though :P

The funny thing about Will.I.Am is, when retires, he'll become Will.I.Was. :P in all seriousness though, I'd rather he didn't collaborate with GD, but if he did, it probably wouldn't be the worst thing. Nightlife worked out well on the trilogy, though it wasn't their best work. But Billie is a man of rock and roll, I'm sure he'll make the right choice, and we may be pleasantly surprised by what happens next.

I don't get why everyone is getting upset over the will.i.am picture.  First, as others have said, they probably just ran into each other some where.  Second, will.i.am doesn't just produce hip hop.  He has produced people such as Carlos Santana, Mary J. Blige, Sarah McLaughlin, John Legend.  He even produced a song for U2.   He is a good, diverse producer.  Even if he was producing a song for Green Day, which is unlikely considering we are assuming this from one picture, it doesn't mean he is producing the entire album.  Personally I would love to see them have a producer other than Rob Carvallo, at least on a few songs.

There must be hundreds of producers in the world other than Rob that are less likely to produce Nightlife 2.0  Obviously we don't know if they are collaborating or he is producing the album or simply passed by each other and posed for a photo but I for one have zero faith in Green Day to make decent choices any more after the disaster that was the trilogy. Maybe their shitty sales made them feel the need to try a completely different music style...only experimented with once before on Nightlife

Every band in the world has had shitty albums.  Plus a shitty album is totally subjective.  Just because a band had a less successful album than ones they have had in the past has zero bearing on what they will do in the future.  Have a little faith.  They have consistently released high quality music.  They had one album that could possibly be considered a lower quality, again subjective.  Even if you consider the trilogy a disaster, they have had 8 studio albums, numerous documentaries,  an album of demos, B-sides, etc all of incredibly exceptional quality.  Personally I'm looking at the overall quality of work and not basing my expectations on one potential mistake.

And personally, I really like quite a few of songs on the trilogy, including Nightlife.

Who could they conceivably get on board to produce though? I love Rob Cavallo's work, but I agree with whomever said up thread that he's sort of run his course with respect to Green Day records.

Overall, 21st Century Breakdown was pretty good in terms of production. My only gripe is the bass kind of got buried. They did a pretty good job of keeping Butch as producer under wraps, until Shirley Manson accidentally spilled the beans.

Personally, I would be interested to see how an album would turnout with Mark Trombino at the desk. But I wonder if maybe they're going the self produced route again, a la Warning. Just them and Dugan.

I think Butch did a wonderful job with 21CB. I mean, he did not necessarily made it a wonderful album but I think he was the only producer at the time who was able to get some calmness and focus into the band since all they had were scattered parts of songs and a huge list of potential songs for a new album. And he was determined not to let the band take a step back after American Idiot.

I wouldn't mind to see him back in the studio with the band.

I think it's likely that Rob is producing, as he had a listen of a few songs a couple of months ago (unless he did so as a friend)

True. But since he's also chairman of Warner Bros. Records he might be too busy to produce the album himself and might just give advice to the band. At this point anything could be possible. But I got a feeling that there's a great possibility that he will be producing the new album.

I really enjoyed a fair amount of songs off the trilogy, it may not be as successful album as previous albums, but it still provided some good tunes. Billie really polished some awesome solos on Did, such as Fuck Time, and Makeout Party and a couple of others. But the guitar tone on Drama Queen was really beautiful. And the chord pattern on Walkaway from Tre, I think it would be good if billie did a solo version of that, just him and his guitar, maybe for live...essentially almost acoustic, but with an electric. But I enjoy the whole trilogy still. Wasn't their best, but its still a good effort though. If you consider the lack of time they had to produce three discs, its understandable why it wasn't as successful. Which is a shame really, because given more time, it probably would've had the success it was meant for. That's my take on it anyway. :)

First i was furious about this but some comments make sense.Especially learning this guy produced Sarah mclaughlin ,rolling stones ... I 'm not fan of those either but that means he does more than hip hop.Sometimes GDC is  very useful ,sometimes it becomes a fight club

I put my post into better words :P Too busy? I don't think that's very likely as he's always had enough time? (When they decided to have Butch Vig it was a personal decision of Green Day as far as I know, not nothing that had to do with Rob). Anything could be possible, that will stay true forever for Green Day :P
