Especially because that would be on a Friday. But on a serious note, since nothing has been confirmed yet I think there's a high possibility that they are in the middle of their demo recordings before heading towards the studio. I just hope they won't return to Jingletown. But I guess you can create a bad vocal effect in every studio nowadays. For one they own Jingletown and two they've recorded there since Warning three that vocal effect has been used on AI and 21st...

I thought they recorded in the Ocean Way Recording studio before. Or was it only for AI? And maybe the vocal effect has been used on previous albums as well, it never sounded as "annoying" as it did on the trilogy. Sorry for using the word annoying, but it's just one of the main reasons why I'm having trouble to listen to most of the trilogy songs, while the songs are pretty good. It just sounds like he's been recording his vocals in a bathroom some of the times.

Plus, they have been doing the vocal effects since Warning. It is not anything new.

I'm highly exaggerating with the bathroom sound, but I just mean the huge delay effect in the vocals.

They did do AI at Ocean Way but also used Jingletown as well it listed as Studio 880 GD didn't buy 880 until after 21st and renamed it to Jingletown but yeah the the filters used in previous albums didn't sound out of place cause the music wasn't as clean as the trilogy most people didn't even know about the filters on AI until the guitar hero acapellas came out Billie loves using the filters he's talked about it in a interview but I forget exactly what he said but was tune of it gives him confident of his vocals (again not 100% what he said) they should've readjusted the settings to the filters for the trilogy but they didn't for whatever reason

You hear them more on something like NIghtlife, but I think they were going for that sound. I am just curious why you would think they need to go to different studios for different effects? It is really just the equipment they use and they way they use it.

I think that's mainly because of my lack of knowledge what quality can be produced in a studio. 14 minutes ago, WhiteTim said: They did do AI at Ocean Way but also used Jingletown as well it listed as Studio 880 GD didn't buy 880 until after 21st and renamed it to Jingletown but yeah the the filters used in previous albums didn't sound out of place cause the music wasn't as clean as the trilogy most people didn't even know about the filters on AI until the guitar hero acapellas came out Billie loves using the filters he's talked about it in a interview but I forget exactly what he said but was tune of it gives him confident of his vocals (again not 100% what he said) they should've readjusted the settings to the filters for the trilogy but they didn't for whatever reason I never really looked at it that way. I guess the recordings for the trilogy are more clearer than on previous albums. Which makes it more interesting to see what sound the new album will have. You're not required to stay locked up in the studio until the album is done. They can wander off and give it a little time between recordings. Sanity Loan
Since American Idiot, and maybe before, Billie Joe's vocals are almost always doubled. The benefit is you get a more full sound, but a side effect is that there is some slight, natural phasing. I think most of you are referring to this as "filter." Also since AI, Billie's vocals have a delay of some sort. This would be called a "delay" and not a "filter." A vocal delay is such a common practice (along with doubling) that it should sound normal to anyone who listens to vocal music these days. Another common practice is heavy EQ on vocals. Remove a lot of lows to try and create a consistent level between higher pitch and lower pitch parts. Also, this reduces the "pops" in B's and P's. EQ'ing also allows vocals to site nicely in the mix of other instruments. Finally, there's compression, which Billie Joe uses a lot of. And he has to in order to be heard in Green Day's style of music. On the trilogy, some of these were notched up a bit, specifically the EQ. A lot of mids and lows were removed, giving it that "tin" sound.
Mary Daze
So I asked some friends that make music themselves and know a lot about recording and all the tech stuff. One of them told me (after I've showed him the pedals on Billie's Instagram picture) that especially those Ibanez pedals were just perfect for a harder and more "aggressive" sound. It's not real news and it's no conspiracy theory, it just gets me excited to learn more about their sound for the new album and what Billie meant by "destroying pop punk". I think that suggests they're going back to Insomniac for style and then making it even more edgy.

That doesn't suggest that they are going back to Insomiac. It doesn't suggest anything other than they are possibly going for a less clean sound then they have in recent albums. I really hope they don't go back to Insomniac. I hope they don't go back to anything. I want to hear something new and unique not a rehash of an album they have already done. Mary Daze
Exactly the reason I added "no conspiracy theory" to my post. I also don't really wish for one particular sound or style, but I think they will do great stuff with these pedals and their creative minds. The only thing I desperately hope for is good promotion! Hero_Of_The_Hour
For all those hoping that they won't return to Jingletown because that will avoid shitty filters I strongly suspect this was recorded in the new studio Shit...this could cool off optimism for the new album in general Like a brief reminder of where the band's writing ability was a month ago as we get excited for a potential new release

Chin for a Day
I liked the Christmas song. It was catchy and I found myself humming it. Plus, I don't think it was meant as anything other than a Christmas Card to the fans. I will agree I don't want a whole album of it, but it in no way shape or form it curtailing my optimism for the next album.
