Because he didn't do exactly A+ job on trilogy.

Ah fair enough.  He did, however, ace it on the vast majority of the albums he's done, both with Green Day and beyond.  I'd be up for him trying again, I love his production normally.

This.  I'm scared that rumours about Rick Rubin are true. I know that he's ressponsible for great albums like 13 of Black Sabbath and Deth Magnetic of Metallica (I like it) but on the other hand he was producer of A Thousand Suns of Linkin Park which is imo the worst album of Linkin Park.

I don't think anyone denies that he is a good producer. However, he is very close to the band, professionally and personally. When a working relationship is that close for so long, you can lose objectiveness.

Dear. God.

Amanda kills Trump with a bad batch of cocaine they were using and it's unclear whether she meant to or not.  When Jimmy begins beating her to death but stops and runs away to the City.   He parties with the underbelly and then finds a gun and blows his brains into the bay and not symbolically like last time.   Like brain-matter on fish.    Whatshername recovers from her injuries over time and realizes that she has always loved Jimmy, despite all of his faults.   She flirts with suicide but decides to live and actually lives a great life.   She forgets about everything and all is well.  She starts a revolution that lives on through the decades.

Agreed. People want to blame him for the trilogy, but I think Billie knew what he wanted going into those sessions. Rob and the band have a close relationship, so maybe he has a hard time saying no to ideas at this point.

I'm still anxious to find out which producer they have been working with.

Maybe Will.I.Am? Billie did post a selfie with him on Instagram a while back.

Why is it that most people don't seem to be pro- Rob Cavallo producing the new album?

Not against it, just particularly impressed with Vig

I would be stunned and horrified if William can't even write my own name properly produced a Green Day album!!  Billie said one time that his idea of hell would be black eyed peas on repeat and I have to agree with him.

Also, A Thousand Suns is a great album, it's just different from what LP did before but again, another band I like because they try different stuff.

You're ether ignorant as all hell or dumb if you think Will.I.Am can't spell his name you do know what a stage name is right? I guess you think Tre Cool is really Tre Cools name...

I don't think Will.I.Am would be a great fit for a Green Day album.  However, he's an amazing producer and if he were to be the producer for this album we could quite easily be pleasantly surprised.  Part of me would quite like to hear a stand-alone single that they've collaborated on.  That might destroy the phrase pop punk forever.

If you think will.i.am can't spell his name properly it's just because you don't understand his genius.

I see your point but too much electronic music is not my cup of tea. Green Day has The Network for such stuff imo.

I'm not against Will.I.am, he could do interesting things with them. At least it's someone whose idea of music exceeds formulaic rock.

I'm not against Rob, he's a brilliant producer. But I would like to see Green Day work with a different producer to explore their horizon. Of course, there's a risk of the album not sounding that great.

I can't see Green Day going with Will.i.am, he could offer different perspectives, but I don't see him having a lot of experience with working with the types of sounds that Green Day has. Like if they were to talk about different amps and shit, idk if Will.i.am would have that much insight. I could be wrong

Reaally don't understand how some people can even think of will.i.am as a realistic option for Green Day. Of course he's not producing the new album. Billie Joe would never allow something like that.

Will.i.am or Rick Rubin would be awesome. I don't see none of them happening though I don't know why. Especially for Rick.

And definitely NOT John Feldman he's a pop-punk producer with more emphasis on the pop part and green day hate that style. I don't act like they're a punk band or anything like that their music is poppy but not pop-punk poppy imo.

I agree. I don't see that instagram as "will.i.am is producing my album" he Probably just ran into him at an even and was like "cool that's will.I.am"

Maybe that's exactly what Billie wants. Destroy pop punk forever. Maybe the new album will be electro pop and hip hop. A collaboration with the Black Eyed Peas. A joint tour, like with Blink-182. A whole new style. The new album will be named "Midlife crisis" and the album art will be a golden dollar sign necklace and gang signs. Just to spite us all.

I mean, I be people probably would have never thought a song like nightlife would come from Green Day too, just sayin' lol

I'm really glad Green Day (hopefully) doesn't take advice from this thread

I'd rather not have

Sure but that's different because that was one song on a 37 song project and people here are talking about William producing a whole album which seems a bit funny.

Of course, we can't be sure. I just don't think that's what Billie had in mind when he said he wanted to destroy pop-punk.
