Back tracking a little bit, but, how much difference does using a different bass or guitar have on the sound of an album? Will there be a noticeable difference in the sound of this album down to this? Or is it more reliant on the production?

Yeah, production is very important no matter how good their instruments are but as it is discussed before that Mike showed in his post that he is (probably) using a Rickenbacker bass whose notable players are Cliff Burton, Lemmy and Geddy Lee and earlier that bass has been famous for making a distortion and fuzz sound (almost complimentary to a rythm guitar) and also an Eastwood bass so, that can be a good sign. Other than that Billie has got newly made golden sparkly Gibson Jr. guitars which he will be using on tour and is a center of attraction for my of us. They also showed their amps about which many are saying that they can have a more heavier/classic sound.

Late Beatles , and Wings featured McCartney on Rickenbacker. He plays with a pick, like Mike. They have a beautiful sound high up the neck.

Edit: I have a 1973 Rick, I traded a piano for it!

Too long

He thinks they should "destroy pop punk on new album".   That's all you need to know.   The rest is praise for Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, which he thinks Green Day should sound like.    Lol

Firstly, I'm a girl, not a "he". The reason I praise these bands is because they made great comebacks after really bad/generally hated/uncharacteristically poppy records. Virtual XI was a godawful album, IMO, and so was Super Collider. My point was that the bands that I mentioned managed to get on top of the world again after being written off by the mainstream by either returning to their roots or going even heavier/faster. So, I thought, "if they can do it, why can't GD?" These are my other 3 favorite groups, so I am of course going to praise them. I do the same for GD on the Iron Maiden forum. I tend to draw comparisons between things to help myself better understand both, and it's no different with bands. I see a lot of parallels between Priest's Turbo record and the Trilogy. Both were considered too poppy, are generally hated by fans and considered a huge departure from their traditional sound. Both came after a well-received record beloved by many in the fanbase (Defenders of the Faith in 1984 for Priest, 21st Century Breakdown in 2009 for GD). Both were more experimental records for the band and were critically panned. The frontmen of both bands were heavily abusing drugs and alcohol around the time of the recordings of their respective bands' albums. Both singers went to rehab and got clean shortly after suffering a huge breakdown because of that substance abuse. Both albums (I see the Trilogy as one album) were ambitious projects, intended to be either double or triple albums, and a lot of material was written during those sessions that, in Priest's case, was released later on as part of another album or as bonus tracks. Both albums were "party" albums, in a way; both focused mostly on having fun and on romance. I see the Trilogy as GD's Turbo album. We know what happened after Turbo--Priest scrambled to reevaluate the material and to find out what had gone wrong. They then put out a good album two years later and arguably the best metal record (Painkiller) of the '90s four years afterward. I hope that GD does the same, but puts out that heavier, groundbreaking record as the next record. I'm sorry that this post got so long; I have a lot to say about this subject.

EDIT: I also just realized that both came at somewhat similar times in the bands' respective album chronologies as well--Turbo was Priest's 10th record and 11th if you count Unleashed in the East. This new record will be GD's 12th studio album.

I just got a mysterious newsletter from Green Day's PR agency saying "comeback day = August 1" and it freaked me out for a sec :P

Only for a second? What? Am I misunderstanding something? Shouldn't that be really exciting news?

It's a newsletter from the entire agency, not only from Green Day - for instance I got from their newsletter the annoucement for the RHCP's new record. They have a lot of clients and I end up receiving mail about a lot of artists I don't even care about. It really shouldn't mean it's GD related. All I got were these two images, not saying the exact artist:

My dear friend, you should join the senate because you can filibuster with the best of them!

How do you sign up for this? Warner Music's website?

I can't believe we haven't seen any exclusive magazine articles from Rolling Stone or Alternative Press about the recording sessions this time around! I remember reading an article I believe from Alternative Press in late 2008 giving descriptions of the first 6 songs of 21CB! But this time, other than that Instagram studio tour, we know nothing!

Thanks for this tasty morsel!

I don't really understand that Hashtag, anyone know what it's referring to? Seems like a popular one

"I do think so" just means "yes I am." It's just a quirky little thing. Nothing to look into.

Presumably, he's joining the band for rehearsals

How long do rehearsals usually take? And when do you guys think the tours going to begin? I'm guessing mid September for the small shows, if they have small ones. And the big tour probably starting in October. Hope I'm right lol

Jeff is Green Day's resident Internet troll. There's little reason to put any stock in the things he says.
