¡Nunes!
what if some of the songs are already in our face and we just don't get it? I remember when Blink released that "Up All Night" song in 2011. Later someone found a studio video from 2003 where Tom already played that guitar intro. I mean, not every song and melody are necessarily written/made at the same creative process, depending on how Green Day wants this album to sound the may rescue some leftovers from the past. Check out the intro to Basket Case during their performance in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It can be probably from the new record.

Blink has been a little more up-front in sharing studio time and information about their process with media and the fans. From the limited about of the time we've been allowed in to Green Day's process, we only ever seem to hear songs/ideas fully worked out and in near-final or final form. So, I can't remember hearing any riffs or song ideas that didn't end up already being a finished song. 5 minutes ago, Siddharth_471 said: Check out the intro to Basket Case during their performance in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Of course I could be wrong because it sounds a little different.

I actually prefer that demo to the album version due to its piano intro and its raw punk sound. I'd actually like 12 to have the general sound of that demo. EDIT: 21CB was practically announced by Billie in January. We knew it would be a sort-of sequel to AI. Now we can but guess about the general direction of 12. Oh boy, I forgot how the lyrics of the demo are way better that the final version. Way more politically engaged.

Wow, thanks for posting this, I've never heard it before and it's amazing and the lyrics are really different at times. Think I still prefer the album version, like the piano intro but don't think it goes with the rest of the song but would like to see some of those lyrics resurrected. PurpleIron1039
Speaking of the 21CB demo, I don't understand why Billie always runs his vocals through so many filters and weird effects. I personally think that his voice sounds the best raw and minimally edited.

The way he sings 'the last one born and the first one to run' on the demo track still gives me shivers. His voice sounds just so good there and the whole song is just about the most perfect track they've ever produced after 2004. Billie should just do away with the filters and let his voice shine on the new album, give it the raw feel it deserves and that's so refreshing to hear in the demo. Combine the epic lyrics of 21CB and AI with some of the raw vocals of the demo and the instrumentals of pre-Warning Green Day and you've got the ingredients for a killer record. I agree with this 100%. I know he feels more comfortable with the filters, but he sounds so damn good without them. I get shivers when I listen to the acoustic version of Stay the Night. He sounds so damn good on that.

localinsomniac
Speaking of filters, how about a filter on this forum that changes any use of the word "filter" to "I don't know what I'm talking about".

OK, it's the low-pass filter that annoys me. When he sings live, at Geezer at least, his voice sounds rich, with a full tone. He's a nice, naturally resonant high baritone. Then they slap that low pass filter on the recordings and all the compression and it doesn't come out nearly as vibrant as his natural tone, it strips the low partials from his baritone voice. edit: my aspiring musician son, also a high baritone, sounds great when he sings Green Day...same range as Billie Joe. 50 minutes ago, JJ1964 said: I agree with this 100%. The low pass is actually a low pass filter, so what if people use it generically. It doesn't mean they don't know what they are talking about.
