Mike is singing the lower part in this song. It's right in line with his vocal range.

I might be wrong but the "at me", "ears bleed" and "taking heed" bits are pretty high.

I don't think I'll buy it if it's not produced by Cavallo. I really just don't enjoy the records he's not on for some reason.

I don't mind who produced it as long as the music is good. Butch Vig did a really good job with 21CB (despite some malignment towards it here).

I think I just didn't enjoy that album as a whole really. I was excited when it came out, and then deeply disappointed.

I was thinking about the caption Billie used, "pink and black". 99% is just him liking the color contrast of the selfie, but what if it's a reference to the album or the single they were supposedely shooting a video for? It might stand for something strongly socially oriented, "pink and black" referring respectively to women's and black people's current issues. I wouldn't have come up with that if the caption had appeared under a random picture, but that post openly came from him shooting photos/video for Green Day's new album.

He clearly knows those are my favorite contrasting colors and my wedding colors. It was a cryptic love letter to me.

In which way were you disappointed? Was it the "story", the length, the lyrics, the musical style? 21CB is not American Idiot and it never could be, just like Insomniac never had the instant genius of Dookie. Still it is a badass album and it contains some songs which represent the apex of GD composure and Billie's songwriting.

I wasn't expecting AI. I think for me it was the style, lyrics, and production. I just didn't think it was that great. I probably have listened to it only a handful of times.

Alright, I get that. I respect your opinion about the record, but the next album could be the one we've been clamoring for and be produced by some other big music industry name. The trilogy was produced by Cavallo and some have argued that an outside producer could provide a more critical outside perspective during the recording process to achieve the band's musical potential to its fullest, which was seemingly absent during the Trilogy recording.

I know this thread isn't about the trilogy, so I keep it short, but I thought if they'd cut down the amount of songs it'd have been great. I enjoyed it.

Yea and 21cb and Warning. I just don't think they're very good, so much in fact I forgot Warning all together.

Oh god, this thread is turning into crap again. Lets stop talking about the past and talk about the future. Who cares if you don't like 21st CB, it has nothing to do with this topic.

Someone asked me to explain, I did, that's the end of it.

Ha, well, black tuxedos for the guys (with hot pink vests underneath) and the stationery, decorations, etc. had black as an accent color. It wasn't an emo kid wedding by any means, I'm not that edgy. :P The girls were in hot pink, and I was in white... with hot pink nails and flowers, of course. Now I'll stop reminiscing (and derailing this topic! :)).

Please no social justice song like "Formation" or "Same Love." Green Day is always so good at being neutral and indirect, talking about issues through metaphors and stories.

This. 1,000,000,000,000 times this.

D'you know who I want to produce the next album? Andy Sneap. But, in all seriousness, I don't have much of a problem with either Rob Cavallo or Butch Vig. I'm not well-versed in music production theory, but I've always thought that a lot of GD albums sound a bit...flat, I guess. It's not their fault at all; it's just that, in comparison to the wildly energetic live performances, the album versions of tracks can't seem to capture that fire and verve that I love GD for. I own Awesome as F*ck, and I just love the sheer power and energy that exudes from the performances. To reiterate, I don't know much about production theory, but I trust Rick Rubin because he's got an impressive body of work. I'm really only familiar with producers who've done metal records, so I'd like to take this time to say that I think that Roy Z is a fantastic producer. I'm not sure how putting a primarily metal producer with a punky alt rock band (yeah, that's what I'd label GD. I'm not sure that they're pure punk now; they started to incorporate more complicated musical elements  (even some proggy-ish ones with JoS and Homecoming) and began to experiment even with Nimrod. Much of the point of punk music is to be simplistic and to the point; it was meant to bring rock music back down to earth and to its roots after what punks perceived to be an excess of prog rock musical wankery, so I just can't see GD as a punk band anymore. An arena alt rock band with punk influences? Yeah.) would work out, though.

Oh shoot.  I thought he had quoted someone else (new) that was "derailing" the thread.  My apologies.  :(

(reading too fast and not checking who was quoting who.  bad mod!)
