Me too because some of the  the best Green Day song lyrics are the ones that are personal, from Billie Joe's heart and experiences, and relatable to the listener at the same time.  I love the authenticity in Billie Joe's lyrics.

That is the number one thing I'm hoping for on the new album: Really great lyrics!!!

I'm hoping there's a song about Billie's rehab, whether it be a heartfelt sad piano ballad about his struggles with his addiction or a fast vintage Green Day rocker about overcoming those struggles!!!

If billie needs songwriters to help him write better than the trilogy then I have no problem with it. I wanna believe he doesn't need it though.

I do too. It's something serious that happened in his life that affected his friends, family, band members and fans so it would be awful to just sweep it under the rug and pretend like it didn't happen. It would be a way for him to write probably some of the most personal lyrics he's written in a long time or ever.

There will be. Unless the album is full of shit lyrics and la la la la's, there will be a song about rehab. I'm guessing a fast, vintage style.

seems like they're taking ages to release this album
perhaps they're releasing....a saga ;)

I don't really see how it's been ages, they were on tour until a couple of years ago, stated they were having a break after that, and only went back into the studio a few months ago. They've taken a lot longer than this before! But a saga sounds interesting

Don't know if there will necessarily be "a song about rehab", but he's always written based on his experiences, including openly about drugs/alcohol and issues with them, so I'm sure there will be lyrics based on or influenced by it.

I don't think he does either but there's a difference between needing songwriters to help and wanting to collaborate with other artists/songwriters/musicians for creative reasons. The first I can't see happening but the second could be interesting. Although this conversation is completely hypothetical as we haven't heard anything to say they're going to work with anyone else :P

Billie has always written great lyrics that were able to reach so many people. He wanted to do something more simple with the trilogy and now suddenly it's not so sure anymore he still is a good songwriter.

I'm pretty convinced that the lyrical style on each album is a conscious choice. I'm not scared the songs on the new album might be bad because I'm sure he can write mind-blowing songs when he is up for it.

Oh yeah I didn't think of that but collaborating with artists from different genres would be very interesting I'd love it to happen.

If it means anything, Green Day's large "hero" image is now gone from their artist page on the iTunes Store and Apple Music. Pretty sure this was there within the last two weeks. Now, they just have a smaller thumbnail image of a trilogy photoshoot image. Progress?

Does anyone know where the iTunes' bio come from? Because it expressly says that they're "labored on the new record". Is the page managed by the band or it's just Apple creativity?

EDIT: Found it, it's written by Stephen Thomas Erlewine, a music critic. Move along, nothing to see here.

What's the large hero image?

Green Day's page used to have the large image and color-themed page like Blink's below. It had that orange background group photo and the page was orange colored/themed.

That's cool that it's been updated to reflect the band's recent status.

Yes, that's cool. Anyway I checked with WaybackMachine and it's been updated the last time in February, so nothing related with an upcoming announcement or something like that.

Me.

Anyway, I don't think there will be a song which is specifically about rehab, but I do think Billie wrote something about overcoming difficult situations in life in general, also because this way more people can relate to the lyrics.

Id actually love to hear a song that sounds kinda similar to amy. Amy was a really great song though the production of it just seemed weird to me. When i listen to it it sounds like im listening to it through a loudspeaker. Id love another simple song like that with just billie and his guitar but produced better.

He's always written relatable lyrics no matter how little his life had in common with lives of the listeners and what they were about. He's often concrete and honest and that's what makes his work believable and relatable. Everyone has different experience and their own imagination, that gives us ability to find our own meanings in art. We always interpret it for ourselves anyway. It doesn't really matter how relatable is a song meant to be - actually, I doubt this can be done on purpose. What people identify with are interpretations they make themselves. I'm quite sure my life has very little in common with life of any middle aged man, no matter what problems he's dealing with. I just don't think it's personal like this. We didn't really know about his issues before, even though he's always written openly and many people found his songs easy to relate to. Relating to songs is often rather about feelings they create. For example, I find Restless Heart Syndrome relatable. I get the general idea it conveys. It's there and it's understandable, even though the song is meant to be about a thing I have no experience with.

(Sorry if this is confusing, your post got me thinking :P)

Also, I'm not sure how much "censorship" is involved, but it seems they don't want to stir this again too much.

I believe that recording was actually Billie Joe's homemade demo, like "See You Tonight" is. I remember reading an interview somewhere with either Billie, Rob, or Chris that mentioned they took Billie's demo and made it sound as good as they could while adding in some additional instrument layers.

Did I just come back from vacation to find a new troll??

What are you talking about?  Better be about the new album or the moderators will come and yell at you.   While you were gone we (I) determined that this next album will not be Album 12 but in fact GREEN DAY 3.0.    There was Classic Green Day (1990-2003), The Second Coming of Green Day (2004-2016) and now GREEN DAY 3.0.   Not just an album but a cross cultural, cross media experience that is more than a rock album, more than a band......GREEN DAY 3.0:   Coming to a town near you SOON!
