I was listening to the radio yesterday and they played Basket Case and then after the song the DJ said that Green Day would be dropping a new album this fall

He probably read Rolling Stone or some other music site like the rest of us. Nothing new under the sun.

True, but it's nice to hear some public awareness. That's a foreign feeling for us fans.

They've definitely been playing more Green Day on the radio lately.  Heard "Holiday" yesterday :) and they mentioned that an album is coming.  Do radio stations play music of a band with a new album coming as a matter of course, or is it all part of the marketing machine?

I mean I'm not an expert but if I had to guess I would say that its part of the marketing machine. I don't think its just a coincidence.

what station, KGB? For years I pretty much only listened to the classic rock stations when I listened to the radio, so I really had no idea how often songs from the trilogy were played at the time. I started listening to KGB a year and a half ago and even back then I was surprised at how often they played Green Day. They mostly stick with songs from Dookie and Insomniac, and sometimes American Idiot. The songs I hear most are Brain Stew and Jaded, then Basket Case and sometimes they'll even play She and Welcome To Paradise. They'll play Good Riddance, but nothing else from nimrod, and then nothing from Warning, 21st Century, or the breakdown. I'm really wondering how often they are going to play new Green Day when it comes out

It's probably just a coincidence. You're noticing it more because of the new album speculation.

Kill the DJ could have been better but Nightlife was just terrible. Nightlife was essentially taking something shit and adding in some sick for extra awfulness.

Kill The DJ and Nightlife are awesome songs!

100.5, alternative rock. It's a good station.

I always forget about that one, I know one of their DJs, John Fanning, our bands used to play together a lot around 15 years ago

While the Chili Peppers and Blink-182's new album have their shining moments, they both suffered greatly from outside writers.  It was so glaringly obvious on both releases.  What should have been "all songs written by Red Hot Chili Peppers" was "All songs by RHCP and Danger Mouse".     What should have been "all songs written by Blink-182" is "all songs by Blink-182, John Feldmann and a bunch of other Douche Bags".     I'm pissed.  I've always gravitated to rock n roll because it was real and made from the heart whereas pop and country came across as fake and disingenuous (there are some country and pop acts I like, and guess what....it's the ones that write their own songs).     Both bands tried so hard to make albums that teenagers will like but guess what 90's bands?   Most teens today have never even heard of rock n roll.   They don't know Green Day, Chili Peppers or Blink-182.   Green Day and Blink are in their 40s and the Peppers are well into their 50s.   You're letting your fanbase down to try and sell records and it's making you look dumb because nobody buys records anymore.  And to have outside songwriters and half your lyrics are "na na na, ooh ahh ahh".   Shame on you Mark, Matt and Travis.  You had four 40-something guys writing songs and you couldn't even come up with WORDS?

Here's what I'm getting at.   I DO NOT WANT TO see this trend continue on Green Day 12.   Write a song with a friend - sure!  But to get Danger Mouse or some washed up punk from Goldfinger to write generic pop to try and sell an album that should be showcasing your artistic integrity because what else is left for 25+ year old bands anymore if not that???  no no no no no.  You've made your money and you're not going to make more off albums in this decade.   Put out great, timeless records.  Put out something you're proud of.     Proof that you can still rock the world decades into your career.    At this point I'm worried that my favorite bands are at that point where it doesn't matter what their new records have on them because they just churn them out to have an excuse for touring.   It's pathetic.

Danger Mouse is an amazing song writer and musician and producer IMO is personally better than anyone in RHCP by a landslide (with the except of John but since John is no longer RHCP)

I have no opinion of Danger Mouse good or bad.  Just saying they need to write their own songs.  AND get John back.

I wouldn't worry about GD they've never been one to really collabo with others on their albums

Green Day will remain true and authentic, and they will NEVER churn out an album for an excuse to tour. Billie Joe expresses himself honestly with his lyrics, Green Day express themselves with their music, and they will only release albums that are meaningful to them, that they can be proud of. They are true artists. That's why they are such a great band.

You never have to worry about this with Green Day. "All words and Music by Billie Joe Armstrong". Nuff said

Who cares if songs have co-writers as long as the music is good

While it doesn't really bother me for other people, I would be a little disappointed if Green Day's music was written by them.

Not really any particular reason to think there will be! But if there was one it would be nice and we'd talk about it

Green Day wouldn't need to churn out an album to go on tour, at this point in their careers they could just go on tour every couple of years without a new album if they wanted, especially off the back of being inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Bands don't make much money by making albums any more (illegal downloading etc), they make money by touring. So there's not that much reason for them to make an album unless they actually want to/feel inspired to. I wouldn't mind if they had input from or collaborated with another artist/writer, could be interesting, but I don't think it's very likely. Without hearing any indication that they were going to do that it's not something I'd guess they'd do.
