There were lots of projects between Billie being an Idiot and Breaking Down, but it was longer than 3 1/2 years.   More like 5 years.   This time seems worse because it's in the present, but we've had stuff this time around too.   Demolicious, American Idiot Movie, Foreverly, No Pleasing a Woman, Lonely Island, Billie Joe's 5 star acting.....Green Day hasn't left us out in the cold since 1986.   But yeah, painful times.    Too help with the hurt, here's to show they've done at least one thing a year for the last 30!

•1986 – formed

•1987 – a few shows

•1988 –  a few shows

•1989 – at least 19 shows

•1990, smooth

•1991, rereleased

•1992, Kerplunk and toured through

•1993 (toured kerplunk)

•1994, Dookie

•1995, Insomniac

•1996  “Brainstew/Jaded” and “Walking Contradiction” on radio.

•1997 Nimrod

•1998, “Redundant”, Touring

•1999, Touring, “Nice Guys Finish Last”

•2000, Warning

•2001, Tour for Warning and Greatest Hits

•2002 Shenanigans

•2003, MoneyMoney2020, Private Hell and SuperMarket

•2004, American Idiot

•2005 , Bullet in A Bible

•2006. The Saints are Coming and played one show

•2007, Working Class Hero, Simpsons

•2008 – Foxboro Hot Tubs

•2009, 21st Century Breakdown

•2010, American Idiot Musical Soundtrack

•2011, Awesome as F***

•2012, Trilogy

•2013 – Cuarto, “X-Kid”

•2014 – Demolicious

•2015 – Heart like a Hand Grenade, live performance at Geezer thing, Xmas Song

•2016 – Billie, Jason and Jesse Malin played New Years Show, Tre does Motley Video, in the studio working on new album

Totally unrelated to GD, but I wanted to point out that the wording was interesting because a song called "Out in the Cold" actually was released in 1986. Anyway, I realize that there have been lots of side projects, but it's not really enough to satiate me, at least. I haven't ever before experienced the rush of waiting for a GD record and it's pretty new to me, so I don't really have a great grasp on the relative length of this hiatus compared to the ones between other albums.

So, Billie must be in NYC now. For mastering sessions?

EDIT: GenXIdiot quickly put a damper on this. Never mind.

That's the outfit he was wearing for the
Geezer premiere, and his hair is longer now. I think that photo is from April 23.

So what are mixing and mastering? Mixing is when the volumes of the various tracks are set, but what is mastering?

Who sang "Out in the Cold"?    Now that I think about it, I believe that Warning was the first album that came out after I became a fan.  I don't really remember much about buying that one, but I do remember my parents and I listening to it a lot.     I went back from Nimrod, slowly collecting all their older releases.   Then when Superhits and Shenanigans came out I snatched them up soon after.   American Idiot was the first one was were I was just going crazy waiting for it.  There was such a hype and buzz about that record, everyone in the world just KNEW that something was different about it.   I went to Best Buy as soon as they opened to get it.    I was so excited it was ridiculous.   21st Century had a big buzz beforehand too, but nothing like Idiot.   The Trilogy had it going until....well, we've talked enough about that.     lol.

Back to topic.   I'm super excited about Album 12, I can almost HEAR IT!  I hope that they tease some songs but are able to prevent a total leak.

Basically mixing is dealing with each track by itself eg. setting volumes, adding reverb to a single track.  Mastering comes after, and involves dealing with the whole mix (ie if you do something it happens to every track identically).  Mastering includes things like EQ and compression.

I think it's relevant to note that particularly now the waiting feel much longer because we have known for over a year something is coming, but we haven't been as well-informed in the months leading up to the release as we were with the Trilogy (the video's and song snippets) or 21CB (in the same vein as AI, demo leak of title song in February). Now we are basically still in the dark as to how it is going to turn out conceptually and sonically. We're only sure they have been busy the last couple of months.

I wonder if those are all of Billie's guitars.

I actually really like what's being done with the middle guitar. I dig the design.

I'm a huge Judas Priest freak as well as a Green Day one (slightly bigger Green Day geek though). The song is from Judas Priest's 1986 "sellout" album Turbo.

I heard Welcome To Paradise on the radio today. After the song the DJ said that Green Day is currently in the studio and that the album may be out in time for the holidays, but more likely it will be early 2017. I don't think she's been following this as much as we have though haha, I'm still thinking October/November. the same station played Brain Stew/Jaded later on but they didn't say anything before or after they played the songs

KGB. most of the stuff on there is horrible, but they do play some good green day songs. i've never heard any other radio station around here play Welcome To Paradise or She, and every time they play Brain Stew they follow with Jaded.

Those guitars look great to use on tour and that middle one is more like 'Blue' meets Gibson Jr.

When I saw "KGB", my first thought was that the conversation somehow turned to cold war spies. i wasn't even surprised.

Oh, yeah, I saw that as well. It means that I have two tours to look forward to, instead of just one!

What if it turns out they are recording an album for The Foxboro Hot Tubs or The Network instead of Green Day?

@The Disappearing Boy If you need a simplified way of saying it: mixing is working with each instrument and how they all relate to one another within the song (EQ'ing/compressing/adding effects to each instrument), and mastering is making sure the song as a whole sounds the way it needs to (overall EQ and compression, volume levels, etc). At least that's how I've always understood it.
