Who the fuck cares who any of the members of Green Day, or any band for that matter, support politically?

The whole "controversy" probably started because some super stalkerish fan snooped hardcore into the band's life and then flaunted what they supposedly learned on Tumblr.

We all should, because, for Billie, it directly affects the music.

So you're saying that if you don't agree with the political stance of a song, it can't be good?

of course it  can, and you can like it, but personally I don't think I would identify with a band (not just a song or a couple of them) whose political views are opposed to mine, because it influences your way of thinking (then, writing) about everything,  specially if the band writes about politics! I care about the lyrics and what the songwriter wants to tell, so it's not probable that I'd relate to someone who is against rights that I consider important, for example. Appart from the link you may have with the musicians as people when the band is your favourite band.

Well then... it looks like I had a lot of catching up to do in here. :P

Come on guys, do you REALLY think the band would make a fake account on Instagram to troll us/release information? Seems just a tad bit farfetched to me.

When the $1.5 billion Powerball lottery numbers were announced earlier this month, people had already photoshopped pictures of their "winning tickets" within minutes and pretended they were winners on Twitter and Instagram. People catfish and create fake celebrity social media accounts all the time. Remember when the trilogy was being recorded and that guy implied he was Billie Joe on Twitter (https://twitter.com/JosephKingston1) for months and a bunch of people on GDC fell for it and followed him? Then he trolled everyone by saying ridiculous stuff about suicidal thoughts/alcohol addiction, etc. just to get a rise out of people.

I think I'm still following that guy :P

No? I don't even see how you could twist my sentence into that.

All I'm saying is that Billie's political views affect Green Day's music. For good, or for bad. Opinions I agree with, and opinions that I don't.

I'm sorry but this is sort of an immature statement. A lot of musicians have personal lives that are quite contrary to the word "good." Do you like the Beatles? Not only did they write songs about keeping taxes away from the rich (republican view arguably), John Lennon beat his children and cheated on his wife. Norwegian Wood is about him cheating on his wife. Run For Your Life is him saying he's going to fucking murder his wife if she leaves him. But, great songs. If you like Rubber Soul, you like music about cheating and abuse. Do you like David Bowie? He raped a 14 year old. Chuck Berry? Raped a little girl and filmed nude girls changing in bathrooms. Kind of sexist, no? Johnny Ramone, Elvis, Beach Boys...all Republicans, and quite vocal about it.

I mean even Billie has possessed some odd beliefs in the past. He is anti-technology but Tweets and Instagrams like a college girl (hypocritical). He said he wanted Steve Jobs to die of cancer. These views echo soundly in 21CB's commentary.

The thing is that beliefs that one's opinions keep us from relating to each other is harmful and dangerous. It inhibits conversation and creates social extremes. To say that you can't like the music made by people you don't agree with is very immature.

There's a difference between relating to music and thinking it's good. No one's said music/musicians you disagree with politically can't be good, you're just more likely to relate to them if you relate to the view they express and therefore more likely to be drawn to them.

I think this thread is about Green Day being in the studio though.

If I hear a song that I whole-heartily disagree with, I won't like the song.  Say you're a hardcore vegan.  And a musician has a really awesome sounding song come out, but it's called "I love to kill and eat chickens" and the video is of chicken getting slaughtered and the band eating them directly, you wouldn't like that song very much.  It might sound good to you, but you're not going to be blasting with rock hands in the air.  I think that you're right in that even if Tre was republican, it's not going to influence Green Day too much.  Most famous people are democrats, but there a few notable exceptions.  Staind (or at least Aaron Lewis) votes republican, but I'm sure not one word of one song has referred to this as they know their audience wouldn't approve for.....Boston is interesting in that some members are republican, some are democrat.  Anyway.

Oh and another thing....is that a picture of Violent J in one of the shots?

I'm just waiting for it. I'm going to wake up one morning (or when I'm on my phone laying in bed after work) and I'm just going to see an Instagram picture from one of the guys saying "green day is in the studio!" With a picture of them in the control room.
