The guy who directed "Oh Love" and most (if not all) of the American Idiot videos. Sam Bayer.

He's directed some of my favourite music videos of all time!  But he did direct oh love and kill the DJ so yeah...

I'd really love there to be a song not in common time on the new album, they pop up occasionally.  It doesn't have to be in 13/8 or anything freaky like that, but just a little subtle variation would be cool.

Oh yeah I do think Green Day have done some excellent videos in the past, the majority are very good. Maybe I should say I hope they continue to be on point. But the standard for videos is high at the moment so they'll have to be more so than ever.

Sam Bayer has done good and bad videos for them. Since he directed the pure cringe that is Jesus of Suburbia and the two most recent ones by him were somewhat mediocre I think I would prefer someone else though. They seem to let the director do their thing rather than have much creative input themselves so I guess it'll come down to choosing someone good.

If they stay away from you know who as the director, they'll be fine. I still can't believe how awesome 21CB video was though...

This

I mean American Idiot was alright but hiring him could end in another JoS, Oh Love or Kill the DJ so no thanks. I'd love to see more videos like 21CB and 21 Guns.

I love the Kill The DJ video, but Oh Love just doesn't do it for me, doesn't feel like GD to me. And JOS is a little too much.

Interesting how both Rob Cavallo and Sam Bayer returned to produce and direct music videos, respectively, after doing some of the best work on American Idiot and got everyone's hopes up high and then disappointed a lot of people with the production and videos of the trilogy.

Music videos are still important and a great video would make me very happy (with a godd song) I wish Mark Kohr was on the charge again.. 90s GD music videos were the best.

Sam Bayer is fucking awesome. I love his techniques (I can't seem to forget him burning a film strip with a cigarette to achieve that effect in Boulevard Of Broken Dreams) and kind of an old school approach.

Also - Bullet In A Bible

I can't help but think of how boring the video for WMUWSE was... Also JoS. And Oh Love was so sexist. Oh, and Kill the DJ is just bad. So please, no Sam Bayer.

Bullet In A Bible is fantastic. But I don't really like any of the music videos he's done for them. None of them really felt personal. All pretty bland.

Sam did a great job with the American Idiot, boulevard of broken dreams and holiday video. Every single video he has produced for Green Day after that got more and more mediocre. He did an awful job with the JOS and WMUWSE videos. Those dialogues were awfully terrible!

If he would just stick with using great techniques and creative ideas I'm sure he can produce awesome videos. But It kind of seems to me that he just somehow lost the motivation to be creative after trying to make it to the big screen after the AI videos.

Mark Kohr or Kevin Kerslake have done great videos for Green Day. But my favorite was directed by Roman Coppola, for Walking Contradiction.

I think the best videos in no particular order are: boulevard of broken dreams, basket case, American idiot, walking contradiction, when I come around, 21 guns, holiday and minority.

I love the nice guys finish last video. I don't know who it was directed by though.

Evan Bernard.

What if Green Day recreated the walking contradiction video except instead of almost being hit by cars, they almost get hit by kids texting while riding hoverboards.

No too much like Back To the Future and not original.

I don't care about videos much. I don't think I can judge as I haven't seen most of the videos for years, except for the AI videos that are on TV from time to time. American Idiot is fine, so is 21CB and Walking Contradiction. I agree Wmuwse was meh. Trilogy videos were all mediocre, to be honest all I remember from Kill The DJ is the super cringey scene with them in the club, fighting people and the fact that Billie Joe looked awesome in it. Second thing I remember is that there were close-ups of Mike's butt in The Forgotten.

Videos aren't as important anymore since the so-called "video channels" only have crap reality shows on them now and don't play music anymore. The only way to see them would be on youtube or something like that, or release them on dvd. I'm ok with watching them online since I'm online and watching videos alot anyway. I love youtube.

Sorry I'm stating the obvious, I know.

You contradicted yourself. "Videos aren't important" and "I'm online and watching videos a lot anyway". That's precicely why videos are important. So many musicians have music videos with hundreds of millions of views. They're still important even though TV channels aren't.

Many people discover new artists by getting video suggestions on YouTube and therefore music videos are arguably more important than they have been for years.

I'm a walking contradiction. LOL yeah I did contradict myself. Thanks for catching that. They are important online not tv.

HS kids at my school anyway are constantly watching, checking, sharing, and   commenting on videos. It is a great way for them to discover new  music. I hope GD steps up to the marketing potential of a really good video for a really great first single on the new album.

Thanks, that's what I was gonna say. My friends are always like "OMG have you seen XXX's new music video? It's SO cool and weird!". A visually attractive music video would help them a lot to spread their music. I'd even dare say it's almost as important as the quality of the music. Almost.

I second that last part. Both of which are my favourite ones, too. :)
