Because the last time they really took their time to create a new album was with AI and 21CB and we all know what those two brought us.

Well, to be fair they took quite a while to polish the trilogy as well. And we all know what those three brought us. This sounds promising though.

Just imagine they come to us like "Yeah y'know, the album will be out next month" :D

There's nothing wrong with the trilogy (except for a few minor things). But I was aiming at the depth of the songs and the layers of the album and the subtle connections between the songs.

It would be awesome if they would announce their new album to come out within a month. But I can't imagine that being a great strategy to get enough people interested.

Im standing by my guess that we'll get SOMETHING around the 4th of july. Most likely some sort of announcement.

You're right, but it wasn't too deep or anything.

Yeah, it was more of a "imagine that..." kind of thing hahaha It would be awesome for fans, but general public would barely notice.

Aw man, I want them to say something already!

A few months ago someone wrote a detailed theory of why the next album is likely to be Warning-like on here that was so logical I couldn't disagree with it (I'll have to find it some time), I'm going to be interested to see if it's correct.

I think that post might have actually been from me haha. I remember one of my first posts here was in the "Where should Green Day Go Sonically With Their New Album" thread and I said something about it being Warning like and I remember you commenting on it. I'm not sure I agree with what I posted though, so much stuff has come out since then, I really have no idea what this thing will sound like now

You guys are always ahead of the rest of the world. You'll possibly the first to be able to buy the album too ;)

Well, maybe they'll just do a secret gig at 924 Gilman Street and give autographed copies to everyone present ;) It's a jubilee year after all

Here you go:

I've got a lot of guesses as to what their next record will sound like. and I do believe that they will release one this year. Insomniac, Nimrod, Warning, American Idiot, and the trilogy were all released mid-september or later, so I feel like they are in the demo stages right now and we'll get a record late in the year. I remember at least for 21st Century and the trilogy that they announced when they were in the studio, and I feel like i remember for the trilogy they started around valentines day, so hopefully we get an announcement soon!

For those of you wanting another Dookie or Insomniac, forget it. Dookie was a record made by middle-class kids in their early 20's who had a decent but small following, and there's no way they can really remake that. Insomniac was a reactionary record made with plenty of drug use, they had a hard time dealing with their success but now they've embraced the rock star thing, so again, we're not getting another one (although i gotta say, that's my favorite album, and i love watching videos of live shows from that era where they're all twitchy from drugs)

In some ways the trilogy was kind of an expanded version of nimrod. Musically it's all over the place, and while nimrod was lyrically about drinking and becoming an adult, the trilogy was also about partying, but this time around it was not wanting to admit you're an adult and deal with the fact that you're turning 40. I liked the direction that they were heading in with the trilogy. Uno had a lot of throwback songs to classic green day, Stay The Night is actually one of my top favorite GD songs, and Nuclear Family and Let Yourself Go were also very enjoyable. I love that Mike started playing busier bass lines again, and I hated the style of soloing from the rock opera albums, I'm glad they went for more of a rock n roll style this time around. A lot of fans said they wanted classic green day and they gave it to us and we shat all over it and rejected it. oops. I like a lot of the songs from Dos and Tre too, but there's a lot of filler in this whole thing. I wish they would have just made one 45 minute album like nimrod.

So where to next? I'm thinkin an updated version of Warning. semi-political songs but also a lot of reflective songs too, were not gunna get a party album this time around. While I would love it if they went for a heavier guitar tone, I don't think we're going to get it and honestly I have a feeling the songs won't call for it. I have a feeling I'll like it, but I also have a feeling it's not going to sell very well... compared to Dookie and AI anyways. And it's not their fault, even if the album is amazing, this isn't the stuff most teens are interested in hearing anymore. I just hope the label lets green day be green day and not try to market them to the pop radio crowd like they did in 2012

Also, I feel like Rob Cavallo will be producing. I thought Butch Vig did a good job with 21CBD, sonically it's great, but keep in mind that on every album Green Day gets a co-producer credit, so a lot of the sound is up to them

I agreed with that post at the time and I think it's still pretty accurate! Aside from the announcement around February :P

I was reading a few things BJ said last year about wanting to take their time & make sure its the best album possible etc - this is a good thing - the longer it takes the better - but I just listened to Minority & I am so ready for new music.:)

If they're still recording, I seriously doubt we'll hear anything before the end of July/August. Or maybe I'm wrong and they'll just release a single out of nowhere. Man I really want them to do that. Even if they don't say anything for a few more months, then bam, August or September comes around and just a single out of nowhere.

Haha yes! I still think it's accurate, just makes a lot of sense based on where they are and where the world is at this point. And the accordion being spotted only adds to it :D

I'd also love it if they did something out of the blue (whenever it is they're ready to do something), and given their history of springing surprises it's always a possibility!

What's odd about Ronnie removing the photo from Facebook is that we (GDA) didn't get asked to take down our post on the website. That's what happened with the Jason Freese interview...

Maybe they are not fully aware that the post wasn't shared on gda but posted a link to the fb-post instead.

Or maybe they don't bother to ask to take the news post on gda down because the link doesn't work anymore and the picture posted is just part of a speculation now, since the source is gone.

At this point, anything we get from them will be out of the blue. It's been too long.

I think he or Bill S posted this on instagram a few days ago too. I'm betting it is the studio and those labels on each input is just where the mics are located. Considering how small OTIS probably is, they don't have large recording areas like at Jingletown or Ocean Way, so they have to make due with some normal "living" areas.
