Sanity Loan
Assuming this photo was actually taken recently, I'm guessing the band has drums, bass, and guitar all recorded, and maybe vocals. "Additional instruments" should be coming together now and are probably the last piece to the recording before being shipped off for mixing and mastering. Looks like we're moving right along. I say we'll see an announcement in July, single in August. --- Also, as a reaction from a post I saw on Reddit where the person thought that trumpets meant that the album will sound like Warning: From my quick 10 minutes of research, the only time a trumpet has made an appearance on a Green Day album: Nimrod - King for a Day Warning - Misery Shenanigans - DUI Tré - Brutal Love All of those songs are very unique in their own right and are not representative of their albums. Seeing that there will be trumpet on this album doesn't not by any means indicate what the album will sound like.

PurpleIron1039
Just my two cents, I've always wanted GD to do a melodic hardcore record. Also, use of fewer vocal filters and a rawer sound would be optimal, in my opinion. Of course, my secret dream has always been for GD to do a heavy metal album (the combination of my overall favorite musical genre and my favorite band would be killer), but that's about as likely to happen as if Billie spontaneously quit GD and joined One Direction, so.... I've really gotten into that genre the last year or so and I'm wanting the same thing. Even if it's a side project, I would be ok with that. The thought of the members of Green Day playing hardcore or metal core makes me curious, especially with the way the few screams we've got from Billie Joe have sounded. This increases the likelihood of of this being a more complex, artfully constructed album, which is what I'm hoping for, after the stripped down Trilogy. Bring on the horns, strings, piano, lots of layers of vocal harmonies, etc!!! So maybe the horns are a good sign! Trilogy had a full orchestra, piano, strings, vocal layers, and horns as well. The songs that do are some of my favorite. I mean, I'm hoping for a more artistic aesthetic, like 21st CB. More production throughout, as opposed to the live way of recording that they used a lot on the Trilogy. It's time for something epic.
inthehallwaynow
Reading the comments section for the live performance of Devil's Kind and some people hope it'll be on the new album. Im not sure if they would do that but I actually kinda agree. I mean if it goes with the tone of the album (which it probably doesn't) it might be a pretty good addition. If anything, insomniac gives me the feeling none of other albums in the world does. And the lyrics are the most special lyrics for me. Insomniac would have been a masterpiece if they didn't try so hard to make it so raw sounding. If they spent more time crafting the songs, and added more harmonies and solos to the bridges it would have been ridiculous. I don't know if anyone caught the solo they added to Stuart And The Ave when they played it at the house of Blues last year, but it took the song from a 7.5/10 to a 9/10, for me anyway.. A lot of other songs on Insomniac could have been lifted with just a bit more time and effort. Anyway, glad to see they're not rushing the new album, and I'm sure it'll be gold! ? I was there, and it is a great song, but I really, really, really don't want it on the new album. He wrote it for Geezer, not for GD. I don't know, it just seems like kind of a cop out to include a song that we know he wrote for another purpose on the new album. I want the new album to be totally new GD, including Devils Kind would seem to me like they are recycling a song. 3 minutes ago, Justin1 said: Insomniac would have been a masterpiece if they didn't try so hard to make it so raw sounding. Actually, one of my favourite things about Insomniac is there is no guitar solo in whole album but that's just another point of view , like Jesus of suburbia being called masterpiece and it never was one of my favourite songs. I have never listened to it that much but today i listened to "No Pride" on repeat and thought it could be the best Green Day song with no solo ,nothing. But then, i know insomniac is not a masterpiece and JOS is. i agree they shouldn't rush it. especially for lyrics

To me a masterpiece is something that's just undeniably great, whether it's your cup of tea or not, and anyone that says it isn't good is openly admitting they have no right to an opinion ? I love No Pride, but the bridge just feels like it's missing some action.. Just my opinion tho!

I don't necessarily disagree, but I didn't mind them including Fuck Time on the trilogy. It was nice to have a studio recording of that, and who knows if we'll ever see one for Devil's Kind otherwise? Has there been any word of a soundtrack for Geezer? They did not say if a soundtrack will be released at the event. Fuck Time and Devils Kind are a little different. Fuck Time was always a GD song, they just performed it as the Tubbies. The Devils Kind is basically a Billie solo project.
