I need someone to put all these dates and numbers into excel with charts and graphs so I can understand it. Then we can start a pool and take bets on GDA for the announcement, single release, and album release.

See, now this is something I could get behind... forget those newsroom March Madness brackets.

it's just hard to believe Nimrod was written in a hurry given that it contains some of the best songwriting and lyrics they have done.

I once read an article that was published before they released Nimrod and it said they had about 70-100 songs written before they headed into the studio. But it could have meant that those were just drafts instead of fully written songs.

I say that because the results speak for themselves.  American Idiot is a masterpiece and was worth the extra time they put into it.  Every rhythm, vocal, riff and note reverberated with real emotion and pain.  A dozen years later those songs still me blow away.   That album is emotionally brutal and powerful and if it had been rushed it wouldn't have been as good.   But in the other hand, I know Billie has talked about how rushed and chaotic Nimrod's writing and recording process was (and that he never wanted to suffer like that again)   ---- and Nimrod was a great album as well.  Every album is different, I just know they've talked about not rushing Album 12.   Some albums are written in hours, some years.   And whatever the sound and subject matter may be, I hope they go the extra mile again.   I wish I could remember Mike's exact quote from "Heard Like A Hand Grenade" where he said they wanted to make sure that every word, every note was powerful....something like that.     That's why I think it should be the standard.

As far as Album 12 goes.....I'm all for something brand new and crazy.   But it needs to take an emotional cue from American Idiot and really pull at the heart strings and make us feel like 13 year old playing air guitar in front of the mirror.   It needs to bring a tear to our eyes.   Essentially (I know, I'm rambling), this album should be bigger, badder and awesomer than their other albums.   Doesn't have to top American Idiot, but it should be good enough to blow some of their other releases out of the water.

The band just needs to be inspired. If they force it, it will suck again like the trilogy.

I agree it'll suck if they force it. I don't think there's a lot of evidence the trilogy was forced though. Doesn't seem like that in Cuatro and I doubt you often come up with three times the amount of songs you need if you're trying to force them :P

A good chunk of the trilogy is the most uninspired material in their discography.

What if they only included 36 songs so people wouldn't think the process was forced.

Love it or hate it we would never agree on the best songs anyways so may as well of released 36 songs.

I do hope Billie Joe's new song for Geezer "Devil's Kind" will be on the new album. What are the chances? F@#$ Time ended up on the Trilogy, and that was a FHT song. So maybe...

I was just randomly listening to Holiday (vocals only)

and I really hope we get something more like this for the new album. Not saying it needs to be a copy of AI or anything, but just something that has as many layers and different sounds. Something that makes the tracks feel full and epic. Just listen to those harmonies!

May is coming to an end and nothing new announced.    American Idiot took 11 months and 8 days to record and then was released 5 months 25 days after that.   And they've been hinted at being in the studio since January 18th.    It could take more or less time of course, but let's say they wrap up recording December 26th, 2016.   and then start putting together the packaging, artwork, tour, etc for the next 5 months, 25 days.   I just did some crazy googling and math, and if American Idiot is the recording standard ------- which it kind of should be --------------We’re looking at a June 23rd 2017 release date.   So there you have it folks.

American Idiot II will be released on June 23rd, 2017.

Even then we still haven’t waited as long as we did for Breakdown.   If it wasn’t for the Tubbies (and a few other really amazing non-album songs)  I’m certain our brains would have popped and we would have breakdowns.   lol

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  As long as this album drops before August 4th, 2017 we will survive.  Anything beyond that and I'm officially worried about what's going on in the Green Day camp.

And I just realized Breakdown took 16 months to record, but they released it almost immediately (due to Murder City being a last minute add on I believe??)

They were definitely in the studio before January 18th, because we got a surprise Christmas song from them on Christmas Eve. They wouldn't go into the studio just to record 1 song. By the way, does anyone remember when they announced the Oh Love single back in 2012? It was released on July 17th of that year and today is May 27th!

I think they released a teaser of the song after we got a tracklist on UNO - not quite sure - @Liam probably knows the timeline.

This is not about Green Day. Jeff is only touring with them.

Doesn't that show the mediocrity behind the songs though? Some people like the trilogy, but albums like Dookie only had 14 songs and are much more universally beloved.

The EP part probably wasn't, but something must've made him write "PS #GreenDay Go crazy."

Yeah, stupid people in the comments asking if that was meant for Green Day.

He's like 1/10 troll but you don't need much more than that with Green Day fans.

Yeah I'm not sure that trolling could be much more obvious :P
