No it wasn't, they played it at the house of blues too and people definitely thought it was about to be a new song. It was closer to the static age than panic song and  The one before st jimmy and jaded is a lot closer to panic song.

I remember the first time I saw them do that interlude between Brain Stew and Jaded, back in '98. EVERYBODY thought it was Panic Song.

I'm like 99% sure everyones overthinking this and its just an instrumental interlude and nothing more. I mean theyve done instrumental stuff like that in the past right?

I definitely thought it was Panic Song! I thought it was pretty obvious that's what it was, actually.

I doubt the instrumental was part of a new song if I'm honest, to me it just feels like a cool transition to spice up a shorter setlist. Also, I reckon at the practices before the hall of fame they would have been more concerned about working out how to play together after a year of nothing rather than actually structuring whatever Billie had written up until then. That all said, it'd be fucking rad to have a longer song with that being one of the transitions between sections.

Wow I didn't even get the joke. i just thought since he said 30 seconds first that a slough of 1 minute videos would be a hassle to go through and he was like i may be getting in over my head which then made him chuckle. if it wasn't fer you smart people I would have glossed over it completely good eyes!

Same - I read it 3 times until I go it.

& I love Panic song.

Wish they'd play Panic Song live. It's such an underrated track. Honestly one of their best.

That would be cool. I  love Panic Song! Been blasting it in my car over and over lately.

Or consider that it's from a new song. As far as we know it's just an instrumental interlude they did to link When I Come Around and Basket Case. Nothing more than that. But it's definitely not Panic Song.

it was kind of similar to static age's intro, imo :)

I wonder if "forget the past and look forward to the future" is the theme of the new album.  I think Billie writes the best lyrics when he has a theme to write to.

Sorry I'm so slow to react, I've been away this weekend...but I agree that this is a possibility.  I also agree that Billie Joe is at his best as a songwriter when there is a "concept", even a loose one. This idea of "fuck the old, bring in the new" has been on his mind for a while; remember he also mentioned this theme when he gave a speech at the Dookie Tribute fundraiser? He encouraged young people to create music, any style, in any way that they wanted to, just like his latest IG post. And it fit's with "revrad" if that stands for "Revolution Radio". This would be so great!

I'm sticking with my theory that revrad is just a reference to them playing around with their pirate radio station (which they've called "rebel radio" in the past, not that different to revolution radio) while making an album again. With other albums they've teased with indecipherable clues about it but only explained what they did in interviews after the album was out, this would fit that pattern. I don't know if they'd tease the album title to the point of giving us half the words, seems like too much when they usually prefer to be more sneaky. But it'll be interesting to find out whatever it is.

And I like the idea of out with the old in with the new! Given where they are at this point it doesn't seem unlikely.

To continue on with the "forget the past" theme, that makes me wonder if it's literal and Billie Joe wont have lyrics about his recent struggles since it's in the past. Or, it could be interpreted as "here is why I want to forget the past.."

Hmm he hasn't minded talking about stuff close to home in the past (including the recent struggles, as he was experiencing them, on the trilogy). I'd be surprised if there isn't some influence from or reference to it, could be in a positive/moving on from it way though.

He could easily turn his past struggles into a concept.  The first half of the album is dark, disturbing and troubled.  The second half turns into something triumphant.  That is kind of the setting of most broadway musicals.  Considering how much Billie enjoys broadway now, I can almost see that format making sense to him.  I'm not trying to say that the new album will be an album of show tunes, that would be bad, but to say that maybe it takes that kind of format, overcoming adversity.

This is why I will never trust Billie's assessment of his own writing ever again.

Well, I personally think that Nimrod's lyrics are some of the band's worst. However, as another user pointed out, Billie was referring more to the fact that it was hell to try to write lyrics while in the studio...not that the lyrics were bad.

I absolutely love the trilogy and it's one of my favorite things they've ever done.

We need to become friends.

I REALLY NEED Billie to write music for an original show...like...the full fucking show. As much as "These Paper Bullets" got panned by critics for its story and production, even the harshest critics had nothing but high praise for Billie's songwriting. He is actually very well respected and loved in the Broadway/theater circle and a show that he wrote original music for would definitely be up for some Tony's.

I saw These Paper Bullets and the music was most definitely the high point of the show.  The songs he wrote were just fantastic.  I absolutely agree that he needs to write for a whole show.  I would love to see him succeed where Bono and Sting did not.

I would take that a step further. I would love to see him write another rock opera, not just songs for a show, but a show with continuous music, even if he collaborated with someone new, this could be fantastic. He is gifted enough to pull this off, for sure.

And then he needs to perform in it. :)

I just got this in an email.  I know it is not exactly the same, it is revpad, not revrad, but when I first saw it, I was like, holy shit.  I don't know, could we have been reading too much into the revrad stuff?  Could they have been given a demo of new equipment?

It would be cool if they did another song like homecoming where Bille Mike and Tre all sing !

I don't think about my expectations anymore. I'm looking forward to whatever comes, especially a tour and that's about it. I mean, if they did something we wanted/speculated about, it would mean it was predictable. I'd appreciate something new and unexpected. No more rehashing. Reinventing

Well they do love word play, so maybe they saw this/got this, and it inspired "revrad" as a play on words, so it could mean both things  at once.

Oh god haha, what if this whole #revrad thing is just an enormous troll job? Like, somebody meant to shorten "rebel radio" to "rebrad" and made a typo. Now they run with it and this whole community has gone insane.
