I noticed Billie Joe's guitar on Scattered last night was super clean-ish. You guys think it could have something to do with their new sound or they just didn't pay attention to a not important show?

My guess would be that they probably did not want the sound to be too raw since the audience was not the usual Green Day audience to play for. Besides, the performance was just an extra. The movie was the main event since that's the one that got promoted that night, not Green Day

Probably just the equipment they had on hand.

Either it's what they like now  (which is less likely because the equipment in the studio indicates they're going for rawer sound) or they just did it because they thought it suited the occasion better/or just did that bc yolo.

I noticed it sounded pretty clean on Devil's Kind, but was closer to his usual dirty tone on AI. So ...

Yes, AI was nice and crusty...I hope we hear more of that tone again on the new album.

I honestly hope Billie ditches the black hair/eyeliner look this time around. It worked for a long time but it's time to switch it up. He looks way cooler just as himself.

After hearing Billie sing on Saturday night, I'm honestly getting more excited for this album. His singing was the best I've ever heard! His voice has improved a lot, whether from clean living, practicing, or both, I don't know. He sounded really warmed up, too, like he's been doing a lot of singing or practicing...in the recording studio, I hope!! As long as they don't kill the low tones in his voice  and compress the hell out of it with shitty mixing, the vocals are going to be outstanding.

I wasn't really expecting movie to be as good as it was, let alone the music within the movie. I was really surprised at how much I actually liked Devils Kind and Ordinary World... and like GenX said -- the performance was great! It gives me a good feeling about this new album.

The low tones in his voice need to be there. He doesn't sound natural when they cut off too many of these. He's got such a nice voice. I agree that he has improved a lot lately. He sounds like he did when he practiced for the musical. Just awesome.

April is still very early to talk about an album that's set to drop in fall.

How is that look not himself? It's just fashion and personal preference the same as any other look he might choose. No different to his wacky hair and punky clothes look in the mid nineties or plainer look with logo t shirts etc around 2000, all deliberate style choices that were fashionable at the time and all himself. He's already updated the look from the very smart and heavily eyelinered style of the noughties to a more casual and lightly linered version anyway (as well as adding personal touches like wearing items of clothing until they're full of holes and falling apart lol) so he still looks fresh and very much himself on stage imo.

I will be interested to see if his/the band's style changes much with the next album. I think it's likely it'll only change subtly as has been the case for the last few years though, it's natural to settle into a style that works for you but just update it rather than having regular image overhauls as you get older.

Exactly. He's been wearing eyeliner since he was in his teens so it's absolutely "himself". He may not wear it every day no more than he bleaches his hair every day or wears a particular item of clothing but it's been something he's done his entire life so it's part of his unconscious identity and I don't understand why people care so much.

I agree, I think no matter what he does he's being himself. He's not going to make himself into a product. I think the eyeliner is cool because he wears it because he likes it. And why not? He looks good with it and without it, and it's fun. Right now the blonde hair is fun, but I have a feeling we'll see the black hair when Green Day gets rolling again, but who knows?

Their new style could be a blend of The Network and Foxboro Hot Tubs!   Or perhaps the denim 2007 era Green Day but with the masks!      Their clothing isn't that big of a deal, but they always have a certain look that goes with each album.   I'm thinking they keep it simple this time around.   Like this could be their "jeans and t-shirt album".   Simple yet powerful.    The Devil's Kind is perfect.   I'd love to hear that song without much more polish than the live performance.    Songs like that, mixed with some really crazy experimental stuff, a ballad or two of course (Most Green Day releases have them.   The Exceptions are Dookie, Insomniac and Uno.   And an argument could be made for those as well.   "When I Come Around", "Brainstew"  and "Sweet 16" all cool the pace down a bit.) and some classic Green Day rock songs could add up to a truly amazing release.

I thought maybe seeing Billie preform at Geezer would relieve my craving to see Green Day live, but all it did was make me even more anxious and impatient for their upcoming tour.

I blame NiFi.

Haha I'm glad somebody understands how I feel; I live in Kentucky and they've never played live here before. When they scheduled that show, I instantly began saving up money. I got tickets and only a few weeks beforehand, received the email. That sucked. The Geezer performance was fantastic but short (rightfully so), which teased me and made me realize this next tour is going to be amazing!

Yes! I was in denial for a while when they canceled it. Geezer was a massive tease. It was awesome, and because it was awesome it just made it that much worse.
