Green Day playing 924 Gilman St tonight (May 17th)

The band seems to almost always be so kind to any fans they meet even if they are knackered and the fans overbearing/in their faces. I don't get why people can't just enjoy their music (they are only musicians after all not superheros) and if it's their lucky day maybe some day they may meet them at a gig or something but being obnoxious to other fans as a means to get closer to the band or stalking them like a freak is just not on. In the past few months like I've said I had a freak (trying to prove a disturbing point lol) send me Billie and Joey's addresses in NYC (like how the fuck does anyone get info like that without seriously stalking them!!) and I can't tell you how many times at gigs I've had my hair clawed out, been punched and really hurt not in a general pit...but by girls trying to get closer to grab at Billie at small shows. It's disturbing...I'd hate to see what would happen if the stalkers and over zealous/grabby fans who punch and scream their way through gigs are the same individuals.

I typically freak out when I see celebrities, and I get super timid and awkward (even at a meet and greet, I get the "I'm not worthy" feeling) but in a pit I do turn into a different animal. It's never an "I neeeeed to touch him" type attitude, but them being so close does make me reach out, cry, sing, scream, "go fucking crazy," etc. and in that type of setting I don't find it too problematic as long as you're not being a nuisance to others around you in the pit. And at small shows like House of Blues or this potential show, you're right, it can get crazy quickly if a few problematic people are around.

However, if I ever got pulled on stage I truthfully think I'd revert to my awkward, timid state. I wouldn't know what to do. I'd want to hug Billie Joe, but I at the same time I wouldn't want to creep him out or embarrass myself. I'd probably just stand there with my hands over my mouth, crying for a while before he eventually was like "get this fucking freak off stage..."

Don't get me wrong I hate the idea of people standing still at a show!! I jump around and sing and go crazy but there is a huge difference in that and deliberately punching, scratching and pulling someones hair so as to hurt them and move them out of your way so you get one place closer to the "ultimate goal" aka Billie Joe. That's fucking lame and has happened at three of the five small Green Day gigs I was lucky enough to have attended. It doesn't really happen at bigger gigs. At two of those gigs I was really hurt as a result with a sprained ankle and dislocated elbow. I have zero problem with getting hurt in pits. Thats totally expected...kind of the nature of the beast unfortunately. The difference at those shows was the girls around me were deliberately "removing" people from the front rows one at a time whatever way they could. I was taller than the two bitches behind me attacking me so I made it hard for them to really hurt me much but they even resorted to unhooking my bra so I let go of the barrier then pushed me over and I sprained my ankle!! Still didn't get my spot though :P

As green day fans we are pretty lucky. The band is very accomodating to the fans. They are always around for pictures and autographs at an event. When they are going about their daily business they are generally happy to take a picture and give an autograph. One drawback to being a celebrity is that you do give up a certain level of privacy. We, as fans, need to allow them all the privacy they can get. That is just one of the many reasons that showing up at their homes is never appropriate.

This is why it always makes me roll my eyes when people try to say the band, especially Billie, are rude or mean or whatever. I've only ever heard of a few out of hundreds of occasions where Billie denied a photo or wasn't totally polite, even when fans are seriously invading his privacy. I wouldn't blame him if he did refuse photos more often (like I think Mike occasionally does, very politely though) or even if he was rude sometimes, because most famous people are more like that.

I personally wouldn't want a photo or autograph if I knew I'd invaded their privacy to get it (like, I've had a few chances to meet Billie and two to meet Tre and chose not to bother them) but that's just me.

I'm sorry but people who go to their houses or stalk them are so super creepy. It's just not right.

I always dreamed of running my fingers through his hair, but this is better. Thanks for the tip

lol good luck with that.

Since you were so rude to me for no reason whatsoever, I think I'll point out that I'm pretty sure you are also posting as McFriday here as well. Read all of McFriday 's posts--they all agree with Mandajane. Really pathetic.

Fuck all you nerds from out of state who got a ticket.

I can vouch for this. Not Green Day or a GD side band. Sorry folks.

(just to be clear, I'm quoting just to show the posts)

If any other sad-sacks like me will be hanging out outside, I'll be the guy in the bright-green Oakland A's throwback baseball cap if you wanna say hi.

Hi-

As mentioned before, this is a benefit for the residents and businesses affected by the huge fire in Oakland @ 23rd & 24th Street last month.

Regardless about who plays today, please PLEASE consider donating to these 2 crowd-funding sites helping the 2 long-time DIY businesses trying to recover- 1984 Printing and AK Press.

P.S.- No tickets are available for today's show. You are not going to be able to get in. Please do not come down and lurk. It's all advance tickets and they're all gone. Please give to the community instead. Thanks!
