Green Day playing 924 Gilman St tonight (May 17th)

I'm really wondering how it sold so fast without really any tip offs.. It just weird to me. Someone in the know would have had to tip off people for it to sell out in a few seconds. So I'm 90% sure it's GD related. It would be really awesome if it is Sweet children or the tubbies who play. Would kinda be disappointed if it was only pinhead honestly.

Also, by keeping the price at a medium- they can maintain their audience, y'know? Not everyone attending Gilman regularly has big bucks! This way, everyone can do a small part to help out, and people that want to go won't be prevented by a high admission price. If they had a high price, only Green Day fans would be in attendence, and the Gilman regulars might feel alienated.

But is the point to maintain their audience or raise money fir a Charity? I agree 100% that if green day is playing they will probably donate more than the concert brings in. And you may be right, they were lookimy for a way for the standard gilman crowd to help out. But, the whole thing just seems strange. I hope it is them and we get good footage.

Well it seems like people at Gilman who knew all told friends, and with only like 100 tickets being sold, 50 people buying 2 each all refreshing the ticket page right at 9am makes it not all that surprising.

Plot twist the band's name is "Special Guests"

Better yet, I'm hoping for 2.5 Men

I think it's just trying to strike a balance between the two things. Also by not making it all about one of the bands playing more focus can be put on the cause they're raising money for, to encourage word to be spread about it and further donations. That seemed to be a key thing when Pinhead Gunpowder played a few years ago, trying to keep things focused on the cause they were playing for rather than "Billie from Green Day" being involved to ensure everyone knew what they were there for and that it'd be promoted further.

I've seen heaps of posts about this in other forums. For such a small venue it's not surprising it sold out quickly. If you lived near by, had the cash and there was a chance it was GD related, I'm sure you'd try and get a ticket too.

If anyone has an extra ticket or 2, please let me know! I would LOVE to go!

lol good luck with that.

I've always thought that it must be super frustrating to see the same front row every show you play.

I've thought this too. Especially since they came out of a scene that is super different.

I went to Billie's house in 2008 when they were in LA playing a Foxies show. But quite a few people I spoke to on GDC at the time had gone too, so this isn't exactly news to the forum. Call me weird, pathetic, whatever, but I don't actually regret doing it. I knew he wasn't there. I just wandered up, went "Oh wow", and then left again. Meh.

Seriously, people bitch at me but if anyone else had the opportunity they would've too. I got lucky and he walked by when I was standing out there. Then my dad and I spent the day in SF. I saw him for like 10 mins OMG WHAT AN INVASION OF PRIVACY OMG GUYSSSSS WHAT A FUCKING STALKER FREAK WE GOT HERE

Theres also a big personal reason meeting him meant so much to me, idk it was a little tough because my mother died that year. so meeting him out of the blue kinda felt like the universe telling me it was going to be ok. but of course its taken out of context and people still bitch about it 9 years later LOLOL ok then.

And that has nothing to do with you sneaking into the golf outing to see Tré, right?

Sorry, your antics are legendary.

I don't understand why people are so shocked that a popular venue that is rumoured to have Green Day playing, which is in the town they grew up in, and only holds 300 people sold out so fast.

Even if people from outerstate didn't buy tickets, word seems to have got around enough that a lot of people would have tried to get tickets anyway.

Leaving in the same city as a venue doesn't mean you deserve to be there over everyone else.

I took a risk to meet Tre and it worked. If you had the opportunity and nothing else to do on a Saturday but have an adventure with a friend, would you? I did no harm in meetin him, wasnt there super and long and left right after.

Also it's their hometown where they play more secret/smaller shows than anywhere else in the world. If you live there you have had/will have more chances to see them in a smaller venue than 99% of Green Day fans.

So stalking is okay because it has personal reasons?

And before you say it's not stalking did Billie or his wife or kids give you his home address? No? Than you pretty much stalked him

It's stuff that like that I have to agree with Kanye West...

I always wondered how psycho stalker fans or the ones that say really creepy shit to celebrities don't feel any embarrassment or shame. I guess if they can get a picture together and post it on Instagram, it's worth it. :P

Like I obviously would love to meet Green Day but when I actually think about it, I probably wouldn't even have the balls to say anything in fear of bothering them....on top of being super fucking shy :D

Just to point out, this meeting/stalking has already happened and it was years and years ago, so there's not really a lot of point in carrying on challenging it/trying to change the mind of someone who clearly isn't going to change their mind now.

Just a heads up... If anyone who actually got lucky enough to buy tickets has a "plus one" free-up, I'm willing to spend a shitload of cash. Two years is too long to go without seeing any GD related live show. Plus Jello Biafra being the MC will make the night glorious.

I probably missed this with all the other talk but what is the charity they are doing this show for?

Man, you know when Mar is laying the smackdown that shit is serious business.

That's why I just waited for Billie to come me.

But yeah, I was too scared to even walk by their hotel or the venue where they were practicing because I didn't want to come off as a creeper... he looked so annoyed in that selfie with the people outside the practice venue.

As green day fans we are pretty lucky. The band is very accomodating to the fans. They are always around for pictures and autographs at an event. When they are going about their daily business they are generally happy to take a picture and give an autograph. One drawback to being a celebrity is that you do give up a certain level of privacy. We, as fans, need to allow them all the privacy they can get. That is just one of the many reasons that showing up at their homes is never appropriate.

I know I've already told the story a million times, but I really think me meeting Billie Joe formally on the red carpet was good karma repaid from me not going and stalking him Friday night with the rest of the "fans." They looked like wild animals and nearly started running when someone tipped us off to where the band was practicing. It was kind of scary.

Kay, Laura, Brandon and I decided we would rather get dinner and leave them alone. Partially because we didn't think they'd actually show up, and partially because we were starving. :P At first I was really pissed when I found out they got a selfie with Billie, but as I said, he looked annoyed and worn out. I like my picture better, and I didn't have to inconvenience my hero in any way to get it.

We seriously are an extremely lucky fan base. After 25 years, they're still together, functional and touring. Through Instagram we get a big glimpse into their lives already that they don't have to share. And you're right, they're typically more than willing to take pictures, sign autographs, etc. I think sometimes we forget how lucky we are and get greedy, myself included.

The band seems to almost always be so kind to any fans they meet even if they are knackered and the fans overbearing/in their faces. I don't get why people can't just enjoy their music (they are only musicians after all not superheros) and if it's their lucky day maybe some day they may meet them at a gig or something but being obnoxious to other fans as a means to get closer to the band or stalking them like a freak is just not on. In the past few months like I've said I had a freak (trying to prove a disturbing point lol) send me Billie and Joey's addresses in NYC (like how the fuck does anyone get info like that without seriously stalking them!!) and I can't tell you how many times at gigs I've had my hair clawed out, been punched and really hurt not in a general pit...but by girls trying to get closer to grab at Billie at small shows. It's disturbing...I'd hate to see what would happen if the stalkers and over zealous/grabby fans who punch and scream their way through gigs are the same individuals.
