I wonder what child-Billie would have said if someone told him people would be arguing about his homework on the internet in 30 years.

again, i don't understand what you're getting at. how do you know that billie wasn't awarded marks for creativity - something which is subjective, not objective? in any case, 'creativity' is frankly a ridiculous metric by which to mark a piece, unless the task calls specifically for creativity. even then, your idea of creativity won't be the same as mine, which won't be the same as billie's, or his teacher's, etc.

i'm honestly not trying to be rude, and wondering if i'm understanding you correctly, but to say objectivity doesn't exist is simply ridiculous.

Yeah it's OK I don't want to be rude either, we're just discussing our ideas. It's probably not the appropiate thread for it, but if we move fast perhaps mods won't notice :P

I edited my previous post so I didn't have to post again, take a look and maybe you'll understand better what I'm trying to say.

It's indeed possible that he was awarded marks for creativity, maybe that prevented him from the D! But as you said earlier, the task was probably given to test grammar etc. I see that you're from the UK, that's not exactly an educational system that values creativity, so it's normal that you think that. But some people think you should praise and develop creativity in school, that's all. This could lead to many possitive things, one of them being people like Billie not feeling like imbeciles (you could maybe say, at least I'm good at something! if you like).

That objectivity doesn't exist is also an opinion. Based in that if you see the name of the kid on the essay, it's probably going to influence your read, for example. There's plenty of literature about how marks -even evaluating grammar and spelling- aren't always objective, you can read about it if you wish. Objectivity evaluating creativity is also controversial, of course, but I don't think we should not work with creativity because of this (opinion, again).

I wonder what child-Billie would have said if someone told him people would be arguing about his homework on the internet in 30 years.

I can't believe they're just now inducting Green Day when Good Charlotte's been in the HOF for years

Does anyone want to recap the night for me? I had prom last night so I wasn't able to keep up with this thread (obviously) and I intended to read the whole thing when I got home today but the thread's gone from 27 pages to 89 and there's no way I'm reading through all of that.

Let's see what I can come up with for a recap.

-There was going to be a big announcement by the band. Maybe a new album, maybe breaking up, or that there was going to be a livestream.

-Is there going to be a livestream?

-Can anyone let me know if there is going to be a livestream?

-No.

-Speeches

-Music

Actually Here is what happened.

-Patrick and Pete of Fall Out Boy gave a great speech on Green Day's legacy and impact on their band. They also tried to give a definition of what punk is. This is in no way to undermine their speech. It was really good.

-Then the boys spoke. Tre was first, then Mike, and finally Billie Joe. All gave great speeches, talking about those that influenced them. I'll post a link of the entire text of their speeches below. The big announcement was that there was going to be band practice soon. Also Tre and Mike thanked the fans, but Billie didn't. That guy is a real piece of work!!

-Then it was time for the performance. It went American Idiot, When I Come Around, and Basket Case. There was a livestream, but some dick cut it off before the entire performance was over!

-I was crying and hyperventilating from the awesomeness.

-Then everybody left because how could you top that!!

-Well, everybody came back and Green Day played with Ringo on the track Boys.

-Then it closed with the all-star jam where everyone played With a Little Help From My Friends and I Wanna Be Your Man.

But this is from 2009, I think.

I hope less shitty videos of the montage, performance and speeches come out.

When he talks about when he composed "Who wrote Holden Caulfield?", in this song itself and in others (Sex, drugs and violence is my favorite example) and also in interviews, I think he covers this matter pretty well. I'd say he too finds it interesting. I don't know if he'd agree with me or not  but I'd say he'd at least have a thought about it.

Tré was incredibly blond on that video like when he was in 2009.

I hope I don't come across as ungrateful or too much of a nitpicker, but I really wish they would have played Minority instead of WICA. I think that song PERFECTLY encapsulates the message of this band (it's the quintessential Green Day song imo), and it's also fucking killer live. I think it could have brought the house down even more, though I'm still perfectly satisfied with the other two.

Also, unrelated to my last point, I'm predicting new album in spring of 2016, and then summer tour. I'm at least pretty confident that they're going to start work on a new album sooner than later.

It was nice to see Jason playing on all their songs and on Boys even though he was inducted. So glad they included him.
