Hi, I am Jason's wife and I haven't posted on this board since 2005,literally. But just wanted to clarify that Jason has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer, not esophagus cancer. The Big Cats post was unintentionally misleading. His tonsil cancer is not due to tobacco or alcohol and his prognosis is very good. Thank you so much for y'all's words of support. Jason doesn't come on here, but I will pass along the well wishes. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we begin this journey. It's gonna be hell but he will be fine when it's all said and done.

:hugs: My thoughts are with you

Hey, Jason, kick cancer! All my very best wishes to you and your family.

What about BJ´s "Green Day 15"... life has its own plans...

Maybe I'm overanalyzing here but does it say something about our society that she felt the need to say "the cancer is not caused by tobacco or alcohol", as if that's supposed to be like "oh good, we can be genuinely sad now" and not "ehhhh, well if he had been more careful..."

Yeah. I think it's repugnant that society essentially victim blames people who get cancer just because they smoked or whatever. No one ever asks for cancer, and no one deserves it no matter what lifestyle choices they make.

Oh god, what a year! :( Next one will be better.

Be strong, Jason! Kick the ass of that cancer.

You're not overanalyzing it. To some people, it's OK to feel bad for cancer victims who don't "cause" their own cancer, but if someone smokes and gets lung cancer, for example, I guess it's somehow less tragic... even though a lot of factors determine whether one will develop cancer, including genetics. Some people smoke like a chimney and never get it. It's a weird thing.

Either way, I too feel bad she had to clarify — no matter the reason or cause, the situation is upsetting all the same.

Get well soon Jason, at least it's localised and treatable. Hoping to hear he's back up and running very soon.

Thanks for clearing up the misleading info. Send Jason my thoughts and I wish you both the best of luck in dealing with this, stay strong and never give up the fight!

Much love and support to Jason and his family, Janna, and the whole Green Day family :)

I wonder, since Jason is a good singer (though guitar is the bigger part of his career). I wonder how tonsil surgery would affect his vocals. I don't mean to sound insensitive or selfish about it, of COURSE I am MUCH more concerned about his health and happiness, but I'm also just biologically curious if there would be damage in that regard. I do love his voice :)

A mod (or somebody with "the necessary power" lol) should really edit the main news about this on GDA.

"very treatable" doesn't mean an easy road. Back in May I was told my testicular cancer was "very treatable". Since May, I've lived through some unspeakable horrors. Don't want to whine and/or complain, so on a more positive note, my thoughts and prayers go out to Britney and Jason. Everybody's story is different, but I can at least relate to having cancer. Britney and I did our chemo around the same time period and I always enjoyed seeing posts/pictures of her doing well.

i guess it depends on how long it's been there, and if they accidently pull something from the vocal cords. i would say once fully treated, give it 2-3 weeks and Jason should sound close to 100 percent again (:

We have some news to report regarding our brother Jason White, and wanted you to hear it from us before word spread. Jason recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, and his doctors discovered a treatable form of tonsil cancer. Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery.
Please join us in sending him love and positive healing vibes during this time.

Why does the title keep changing?

Well initially following the Big Cats post we assumed Jason had cancer of the esophagus which was later corrected by Jason's wife Janna and so I changed the title to reflect that. I didn't change it since but I see someone else did.
