Fuzz
I thought it to be a special effect of the song, like artificial laughter in comedy shows. Just to give it a live-atmosphere without being live. Everything in this song sounds artificial to me. It´s a catchy tune though. A song I hear and then forget again. Almost positive this was played at a show, hence the two different versions of the sound. I think it came from two different people on YouTube who posted stuff after a show. WhiteTim
Kind of reminded me of the Green Day crowd at the show when then played songs no one had heard from the Trilogy. What do you do when you're at a concert and don't know the song(s)? Just stand around. If a song is awesome and energetic why not explode when Nirvana first played SLTS for the first time ever you can see people jumping all over moshing etc
Todd
At the Echoplex when Green Day debuted Kill the DJ, everyone was going nuts. That's like Dance music, right?
klytaemnestra
Who goes to a concert to stand around? What a terrible audience. Do we know if it was an Avicii concert or a festival or some sort? it looks like a festival to me due to the wristbands and the odd amount of older people in the crowd. plus that video is filmed from pretty far back, where people are usually more chilled out. Up front everyone just had their iPads out filming it I'm probably just used to Irish dance festivals/shows where everyone is yoked off their tits. Maybe the rest of the world is more chill. Spike
People really do that? Like, what if you see a band you don't know? The first time I saw Crystal Castles, The Gaslight Anthem and Radiohead live I'd never heard a single song by them and I went as nuts as I would at any other gig. Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap
BJA one of the world's most exciting crazy stage performers and then Chris Martin who put's people to sleep. Evidently you've never seen Coldplay live.
Comrade
Yeah if I don't know something and it doesn't immediately grasp me as the best thing I've heard, I'm standing still and just taking it in. Movement at gigs requires passion from music I love, not going to waste vital love-energy on something that means nothing to the ears. That crowd'll be the same, made visually worse by the fact that intense crowds can look dullthrough a camera where all you see is arms, heads and shadows. I'm sure they're all having a grand time. Ryan
New life philosophy? Not really...more just me being kind of pervy and whore-ish. I mean, the thought of Tom's "love energy" just puts thoughts in my head. Lol

Z J
I'm hoping that Billie does what Aloe Blacc did, which was release an acoustic version of the song (Wake Me Up). I like Billie's voice in this, the tempo and delivery are very different from what he does for GD, and his voice (I actually like the filter) has a cleaner tone that's reminiscent of his cover of Alison. Heather.
As cool as Avicii's music is to people, I still can't wrap my head around paying big $$ to go to a live performance of DJ music. Like, he's projecting the singer's pre-recorded voice and I guess producing the sounds live? IDK it just feels like paying a lot of money to replicate your iPod on a big sound system. I was thinking the same, as whats the point. You could do the same thing in your living room. Makes it worse that the stage from the video posted was so big and the only piece of interest was one person standing behind a laptop.

I've seen clips where it's almost impossible to actually see Avicii himself, there's so much lighting and shit and there's not even a spotlight on him. Which is cool from a modesty point of view, but again what's the point.

Which is cool from a modesty point of view, but again what's the point. It's for the spectacle and atmosphere. You're not necessarily going to see the artist, it's for the experience of hearing music in the context it's intended. There's a big difference in atmosphere between hearing it in a nightclub and at a gig for an individual artist. Plus there's usually an element of live performance from good DJs, whether it's triggering sounds, playing instruments or live mixing. Admittedly it does appear weird from a rock fan's perspective because there's not a great deal of difference between playing a song off iTunes at home and through a laptop in whatever configuration at a gig. It's not really something I'd consider attending myself, but I can understand the appeal. It's just a totally different audience.

Although I still disagree with "it's for the experience of hearing music in the context it's intended." Isn't the context Avicii's music is designed for decidedly NOT a wide open space, but a small intimate dance club? (I'm reading David Byrne's "How Music Works" right now so that's making me a lot more attuned to the physical spaces in which music is played).
